1 Ignition Module problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/17/2004

I was the owner of a 1999 c-5 Corvette sport coup with 12,924 miles and in mint condition. On Nov. 17,04 at 7:50pm, I was pulling away from a stop sign. As I made a right hand turn around a corner I accelerated the car in a normal manner. All of a sudden the engine went to the full throttle position and the rear of the car jumped to the left. I tried to correct and then the car jumped to the right and I hit a palm tree. During this rapid acceleration event I lifted my foot from the accelerator with no effect to the engine rpm. The distance from the stop sign where I made the right hand turn to the palm tree was about 150-200 feet. The car was totaled by my insurance company. A passenger and myself are ok but we have some seat belt bruising. I feel that the seat belt and air bags saved our lives. I would like the nstb to look into these types of crashes and advise me of the results. I am sure there are other similar incidents that are not reported.

3 Ignition Module problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/15/2002

Ac drain clogs causing computer failure, engine failure, and vents to totally fog windows. Almost caused serious highspeed accident on interstate. This has clogged 5 times on my Corvette. Many other Corvette owners are having the same problem. Someone will get killed if this keeps happening. Gm has not helped a bit. They can't seem to keep the ac drain lines from getting clogged on these cars. The ac plenum fills with water as you drive, and then starts dripping on the floorboard computers and fries them.

4 Ignition Module problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/25/2001

The cars computer shuts down the car at high speeds. Messages that appear include low voltage, service active handling system and abs failure. This has occured four times - 6/26/01, 8/8/01, 10/4/01, and 10/25/01 and I have brought the car into the dealership for repair. Dealer claimed to have fixed problem only to have it reoccur. It is like having the car shift into neutral at 70 mph. It creates a very dangerous situation as I am usually on a highway with fast moving traffic around me. The dealership says this happens all the time with the Corvettes as if it is normal. I can't believe that a car would be designed to shut down at high speeds if the computer registered a voltage drop. The manufacturer representative michael steele at 800-222-1020 is aware of the problem and tries to help but has no power to deal with this issue. The case number at Chevrolet is 05623088. This car is dangerous and should be subject to review and possible recall before someone is killed.

6 Ignition Module problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 06/09/2000

The pcm reports error p1518, but is intermittent (thus it has not been taken in yet intil it is more predictable -ie solvable) the real problem is the pcm reduces engine to idle until a power cycle - very dangerous, but as I have found out before intermittent failures can not easily be diagnosed - should be a check to return power if the failure is gone for a time.

7 Ignition Module problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/05/1998

10/14/97 recall- replace both seat belt retractors 10/14/97 speakers rattle while driving, parts replaced on 3/9/98. 3/9/98 was in service for 'service traction system, engine power is reduced' msg that was received on car's system. While driving 65 mph down the expressway, the car lost significant engine power and the car's system very suddenly reduced when I was driving down the i355 expressway. I was almost rear-ended. The dealer did nothing to fix the problem. (I have a service record indicating this. ) 4/6/98 was in service for 'service traction system, engine power is reduced' msg that was received on car's system again. Vehicle did the same thing again, and I almost got into an accident when turning left; nearly got side swiped because of the reduced speed. Was accelerating normally to turn left. Service dealer replaced the electronic throttle control module & said that this would fix the problem. 7/3/98 I complained to dealer svc dept about burning gas smell. Also, same msg came up 'engine power reduced. '11/5/98 same msg' service traction system, engine power reduced' came up. They are replacing a part & they are not sure if this will fix the problem. Chevrolet trouble ticket :on 4/17/98 I opened up a trouble ticket with Chevrolet ref # 980225396. 4/17/98 called cust svc number (800) 222-1020 & talked to ernst at x3797 he said I would be contacted within 2 days to discuss status of this recurring problem. Nobody ever contacted me. 11/5/98 talked to patrick akandu. He said he would leave a message rick washington who is reviewing my file & he would get back to me. Nobody ever did. On 11/5/98 I called the state attorney general's office- in illinois at 312-814-3000 to find out if lemon law applies- apparently not because it's over 1 year old. On 11/16/98 called & talked to cust svc (800) 222-1020 to ask status of my ticket. They had nothing to tell me. John mcdonough from celozzi ettleson service indicated that he cannot guarantee that this problem w.
