In December 2013 the automatic transmission suddenly lurched into a different gear as I was driving and would not properly upshift through the gears. Also the check engine light was on. I limped it to the dealer and they cleared the code somehow and gave the car back to me. I only put about 85 miles on the car in 7 months when it did it again in June 2014. I nursed it to the dealer where they diagnosed it as a bad transmission control module(after telling me the battery and ignition switch needed to be replaced which was not correct). The bill was $1328. I picked up the car and drove it home where the same thing happened as I neared my house and the transmission again lurched into a different gear and wouldn't shift through the gears properly. Again I nursed it back to the dealer and they claimed the first module they put in was bad and replaced it. Needless to say this didn't sound to me right but there wasn't anything I could do at this point. I put approximately 850 miles on the car in 11 months and had been experiencing intermittent times when the shifter would not come out of park without numerous attempts. I brought it in in may 2015 for the headlight recall and told them of the difficulty getting it out of park. They said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I put less than 200 miles on the car in 4 months when the transmission got stuck in park,in my garage and the transmission shifter cable broke as I attempted to get it into gear. This was September 2015. The car had to be jacked up and put into neutral underneath and pushed out of my garage so it could be towed to the dealer. This trip cost me $873 for a new shifter and shifter cable replacement. I have now read where this is a common occurrence on the 2005 Corvette and I feel a recall should be instituted to replace these defective parts at the manufacturers expense. I am the original owner. Thank you.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that the active handling system light remained illuminated, and caused the gear not to shift out of park. The gear shifter had to placed in accessories to be to able to release the gear from park. The vehicle was taken to several dealers to have a diagnostic performed. The brake switch, the transmission control module, and the brake switch were replaced; however the failure was not corrected. The active handling system light remained illuminated. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 85,000. Li.
The consumer felt that the remedy for the automatic transmission electronic column lock 04v060000 recall is making it easier for the vehicle to be stolen. When the column lock plate is removed only the transmission shifter is locked. The shifter can be easily unlocked, and without the assistance of the steering lock, the vehicle wasn't secured from theft. The vehicle would like a new remedy found to correct this failure without deactivating the electronic column lock system.

While driving the consumer noticed that the service vehicle soon light had come on. After taking the vehicle in for a diagnosis, the consumer was told that an electronic brake traction control module was needed. The consumer feels that this is a defect becuase the vehicle has low mileage, and knows of others with similar problems. The manufacturer is aware and was willing to split the bill 50/50, but the consumer feels if they don't cover all charges then further action will be taken. (the cost of total repair is $1256. 36).

Dash display said traction control system inoperative and then 'reduced power mode'. Power dropped to zero, although engine continued to run. We were in the center lane of a crowded freeway and just managed to get to the shoulder. It was extremely dangerous. It happened several more times on the way home. The traction control system was not active (summer, dry, straight road). Disabling the traction control system had no effect. It makes no sense to endanger those on the road by dropping the power to zero for a trivial reason.
I was making a right turn and the tracton control and anti-lock brakes disengaged and as I accelerated the vehicle spun out of control and slid into the curb and did extensive damage.

The car's traction control system engages even when wheels are not slipping. It did this once in a great while at first, but now it does it every time I try to drive the car. When the tcs kicks in, the engine power is reduced so you can only drive about 15mph. It slows the car down abrubtly and never turns off until you turn off the car. The dash displays many error messages repeatedly such as "service traction system" "reduced engine power" "service abs system" "check engine". This is a super serious safety issue. When you have a 345hp car, you tend to pull out on to a highway knowing you can get up to speed quickly. Several times, I pulled out and the car's engine cut out due to this problem. This problem has been reported by many other 97 Corvette owners and gm should handle this with a recall to fix the faulty components. My car only has 14,000 miles on it.
The passenger side seat belt jammed for at least the fifth time after the dealer installed the clip required by the recall. An accident occurred a few minutes after the last jam. My passenger was very lucky not to have been injured with more than a bruise on her leg and a bump on her head. When shifting from first gear into second at about 35 mph (engine speed at about 3300 rpm), the rear end came around to the left causing the car to do a 180. The traction control system never intervened as it has done many times in much less severe situations. The car then went sideways across traffic into a curb and then over the curb into a fence on the edge of an overpass. A police officer was a few cars behind me and saw the entire incident. In his police report he estimated my speed at 35 mph.
When starting the car in motion for accessing a highway, if one rear wheel loses traction, the throttle closes which cuts down the power of the engine, leaving you and the auto setting halfway on to the highway. You are trying to access with oncoming auto's approaching you, which will some day cause an accident and potential death to the person in the auto accessing the highway, and the people in the appraoching auto.
