1 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/03/2025

On 8/3/2025 I was at a stop light. It turned green. I went to go and my car would not go past first gear. Had to pull over. Waited turned the car off. Turned it back on and started driving, then I got an alert 545. Then my entire screen went blank only showing the alert. I called my dealership to explain. They said there were recalls on the 2023 and 2024 transmissions. That’s why I got the alert 545. But they said there was nothing they could do. I could bring it in for a test drive with a technician and if it pops up alert 545 then they would submit a ticket to gm. But the earliest to fix my Corvette would be October. But also saying I would have to pay full price for everything. I bought my 2023 Corvette 1lt c8 stingray in 2022 and have only put 19,000 miles on it. I do not miss maintenance or anything. I’m not sure how to get gm to pay for my transmission and labor. It also would not let me acknowledge and click the button on the steering wheel. My display went off and I could not get it back on even turning the knob. This is incredibly dangerous for my safety. Transmission failure. Can’t see the speed I’m going.

2 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

A 2019 Corvette with 3,400 miles began to demonstrate a transmission torque converter shutter. This became rapidly and progressively worse causing driving to resemble being on a washboard road surface. The servicing dealer was familiar with the problem with this transmission and did resolve the issue with an expensive transmission fluid flush and exchange.

4 Power Train problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 03/25/2025

After an oil change at a Chevrolet dealer I drove to get gas. After refueling I got in and was preparing to drive away when I noticed the clutch pedal was on the floor and would not pop back up ready to be used. I had the car towed to the Chevrolet dealer where I learned the hydraulic clutch master cylinder had failed. I was lucky this didn’t happen while o was driving the car on the highway. I am not sure how that would have affected the drivability of the vehicle but it could have been very dangerous. I had received a letter from Chevrolet years earlier that described the problem and said if it happened within 10 years or 100,000 miles they would repair it. Mine failed after the 10 years but at only 8,500 miles. This system of not actually recalling the car for repair but instead issuing the owner a “notice”, doesn't seem fair for someone who doesn’t drive their vehicle many miles but is still costly and potentially dangerous when it occurs while the vehicle is being driven.

6 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

Gm has a well known issue with the transmission fluid used in assembly on a range of cars and dates which include my 2019 Corvette. The fluid used fails/ is defective. The process to fix the issue is to flush the fluid out and put in a different fluid. In the case of my Corvette, it actually requires a very expensive triple flush to ensure all of the original dexron fluid has been removed and is replaced my mobil fluid. The process is explained in an 18 page service bulletin 18-na-355. This bulletin states that if a customer comes in complaining of shake/shudder during acceleration between 25 to 80mph or when the trans is not actively shaking, then there is no need to further diagnose. Just follow the procedure in the service bulletin. In other words, there is no need to investigate further because we already know what the problem is which is the defective dexron fluid. This was my exact experience with the shake/shudder and the triple flush completely fixed the issue. My vehicle has 17k miles on it so this was no a normal maintenance issue nor would you expect a full flush of transmission fluid at 17k or really at any point. Perhaps adding some fluid at some point would be reasonable. Having to completely remove all traces of the assembly line fluid with a completely different fluid clearly indicates a defect in the original dexron. The service bulletin clearly indicates gm knows that the dexron is defective. A final note, a quick web search of this issue will bring up pages of threads of people who have experienced this exact issue. Please hold gm responsible for their error. Thanks.

7 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/29/2024

On [xxx] I was driving my Corvette in atlantic city, new jersey, which at that time I noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. I looked at my dash to see if any warning lights or check engine lights were on and nothing indicate there was a problem. So I did continue to drive to get to a safe place where I can pull over and look at the engine. When I came up to the red light, the car next to me told me that my vehicle was on the fire. I was able to pull over on the side of road next to the hospital in atlantic city. And then I got out of my car to nattempt to put out the fire myself as I noticed melting plastic that was on fire, was dripping all my tires to avoid the tires catching on fire. I remove the plastic that was on fire, causing burns to my hand. Then I called the fire to department to help me put out the fire. Once the fire was put out. I had it towed to the dealership they told me to call my insurance company. Doing insurance process one of their technicians looked at the vehicle and determined that the rear transmission case cracked from a defective part in the transmission breaking, which cause the transmission fluid to pour out onto the exhaust system, then the hot transmission fluid ignite and set the rear of the car on fire. The insurance company liberty mutual refuse to fix the car due to mechanical malfunction. I then contact general motors and file a claim which has been open for several months with zero repairs done to the vehicle. Gm motors also sent a technician to look at the vehicle and came to the same conclusion but still has not attempted to fix the vehicle. This vehicle with a defect like this is very unsafe. I could’ve been driving on the parkway and the vehicle locked up because the transmission broke and caused an shi accident or the fire could’ve been a lot worse could’ve been burnt to death. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Power Train problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/15/2024

Transmission is very erratic to shift, especially when cold. Sometime, when pressing the accelerator, the car hesitates before moving forward. This can be dangerous at intersections with oncoming traffic. The transmission was inspected by a chevy dealer right after the car was purchased (09/2017) and parts replaced. The symptoms still happen. It was inspected again 01/2023 by a chevy dealer and the transmission fluid flushed. The symptoms still happen regularly. Gm is aware of this dangerous issue, yet nothing has been done to correct the problem.

9 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/17/2024

My 2019 Chevrolet Corvette stingray, the transmission system along with the torque converter began to malfunction as the car seemed to change from different modes. This malfunction caused the transmission to shudder, which caused a very bad vibration while accelerating and driving between the speed of 25-70mph. These actions or behaviors by the car surely poses a control and stability risks well as a safety risk for everyone on the highway and to myself. This issue was confirmed by the gm dealership I took the car to on 8/23/2024 and they said they could not get to it until 9/9/2024 and they will have to do a triple transmission fluid flush based on a service bulletin (TSB 18-na-335) which was issued by general motors. My car gave me no warning by way of lights or messages within the car. I would like to know why this repair is not covered under the service bulletin since general motors knows this is a issue with the cars.

10 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/17/2024

Reoccurrences of car losing all accleration while driving on highway, creating near pile up accidents due again on 7/16. Car gets a false warning signal that the front trunk hatch is open, when it is actually not; others report false neutral signal; the car front trunk is properly latched, and there is no actual safety concern. However, the car immediate and without warning has the driver lose all power. I have now nearly been in 3 deadly accidents due to this failure over the past few weeks. Dealers and gm have not been helpful at all. Issue is intermittent and definitely an electrical or firmware gremblin. Ive seen multiple people post about this issue on the Corvette forum as well!.

11 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/08/2024

In my 2019 Chevrolet Corvette grand sport, the transmission system began to malfunction, specifically related to the torque converter. This malfunction caused the transmission to shudder, creating a noticeable vibration during acceleration and driving. The unpredictable behavior of the vehicle due to the shuddering compromised control and stability, posing a risk to my safety and the safety of others on the road. The problem was confirmed by the dealership's service center, which performed a transmission fluid flush according to the service bulletin (TSB 18-na-355) issued by general motors. Although there were no specific warning lamps or messages, the shuddering symptom appeared several months before the repair. The dealership corrected the issue by performing the necessary service, which cost me $853. 52, an amount I paid under protest as I believe it should have been covered under the service bulletin. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request, and the dealership, acting as an authorized representative of the manufacturer, diagnosed and addressed the issue.

12 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 06/24/2024

Put vehicle in reverse. Vehicle would not move. Vehicle placed back in park. Put vehicle in reverse again; and after advanced acceleration heard a loud clunk sound and jarring movement. Car continued in reverse normally. Vehicle was put into drive and driven approximately 500 feet at which time vehicle shut down. Service transmission and “rear axle not engaged” messages showing, as well as an overheating message. Dealership unresponsive.

13 Power Train problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/30/2024

Torque converter shudder and noise (definitely and issue related transmission). Around 1,500 rpm the vehicle starts to experience the shudder, shaking, and noise. Additionally there is a feeling of a surge in power, like if the vehicle shifts to an upper gear un intentionally, the vehicle launches forward occasionally (lurching forward). There is absolutely no issue while the vehicle idles, not at low or high rpm. The issue only occurs while the vehicle is in motion and at around 1,500 rpm. Using a v4 to v8 delete (range technology ra003b afm/dfm disabler) helps the issue significantly but it's still an issue. If that disabler is removed the issue is extremely pronounced. I purchased this vehicle as a used vehicle. I wouldn't have purchased the vehicle if I had the slightest idea of such a major issue with the vehicle.

14 Power Train problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/22/2024

15 Power Train problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

The transmission has a shudder issue at speeds between 60 and 80 mph. Gives the feeling of driving over rumble strips. Vehicle milage is 6200 miles. The dealership verified the issue associated with the transmission and indicated that a repair bulletin was issued by gm to correct the issue.

16 Power Train problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/14/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while driving from a stop, after engaging the clutch, the vehicle started to shudder and vibrate and nearly stalled. The contact pulled over into a parking lot. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the valve spring had fractured in half within cylinder #5. Further diagnostic test determined that the failure had caused damage to the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000.

17 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/24/2023

Shuddering occurs at speeds between 25-75 mph. Gm has s TSB #18- na-355. This bulletin accurately describes what I was experiencing. They know that there is a problem with their 8 speed automatic transmissions, but will not tell consumers about it. There should be a recall to fix all of the vehicles effected during the time of defective transmission fluid. .

18 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/13/2023

Happened twice within a day. The main electric fan on the radiator stopped working and the car overheated. Once at idle, was able to shut the car off safely. The second time, there was traffic on the highway, and the fan stopped working and the car started to overheat. Had to shut the car off and wait for it to cool down on the side of the road. When I got the car home, I found the electrical connector of the fan to be melted and fused together. There was no indicator that the fan would stop running prior to the engine overheating.

20 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

I had a complete transmission failure while on a road trip over July 4th. I just read that gm was doing a recall on the transmission control module but it does not include my car, which is what failed on my car at 19,000 miles. My trip was interrupted, we spent two days paying for hotel & rental car in springfield, mo and now my car is fixed with new tcu in springfield, but I live in dfw area. If my car had a recall I would have had it fixed before our trip and this all could have been avoided. Now I have to figure out how to get my car back home.

21 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 05/26/2023

One week ago received a manufacturer ota update to install in vehicle which I always download. A few days later I drove vehicle to store and turned vehicle off in parking lot for 5 minutes. Upon returning to vehicle, unable to start vehicle. Vehicle display provided message “battery low start vehicle” but vehicle would not start. Tow company attempted to jump vehicle multiple times but not successful. Vehicle had to be towed for service. My vehicle is always stored in garage and plugged into battery charger when not in use and should not be dead. Vehicle information system displays message “service brake system” and “service transmission unable to shift soon”. Vehicle unable to operate and awaiting scheduled service at dealership.

For last 3 years whenever I fill my vehicle with gas the garage smells of gas until the tank is less than half a tank. . . The other major issue is the vehicle will not come out of park multiple time. This has put me in embarrassing situations many times. I stay away from driving the vehicle so many times when I could be in physical danger .

24 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/04/2022

Transmission shuttering/noticeable vibration while cruising. Dealer replace transmission fluid and shuttering resolved. However, upon initial 1st and 2nd gear engagement on the first drive of the day, the transmission hesitates and aggressively lunges forward at a higher speed than anticipated. Not safe, normal or desirable. This is a known problem that the dealer knows about but what is the resolution/fix to the issue? no warning lights have been displayed.

25 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette

After multiple attempts, the contact was able to engage the transmission and drove the vehicle to dealer where they were unable to diagnose or service the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 812.

26 Power Train problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/21/2022

Since the vehicle was new, it has exhibited a transmission shake or shudder that is especially noticeable when the active fuel management is active. The vehicle was serviced by Chevrolet under warranty on Dec. 5, 2017, for a transmission shake and/or shudder repair using the flush methods described in bulletin no. 18-na-355, but it has continued to exhibit a transmission shake or shudder. My local Chevrolet dealership has now diagnosed the vehicle as having a torque converter with excessive slippage and recommended a replacement torque converter at a cost of $3,450 including parts and labor, or a total transmission replacement at a cost of $8,100. My vehicle currently has 24,473 miles on the odometer. A major transmission component should not fail in less than 25,000 miles on a modern flagship vehicle used for light, non-everyday driving from a leading u. S. Auto manufacturer.

27 Power Train problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/05/2022

Took the car in for inspection after noticing a greasy substance on the bottom panels when changing the oil. I was informed by the dealer that a cracked transmission housing up top was spraying the oil out and it was dripping down, the car is 7 month old and the transmission case cracked because of porous metal castings I was told which is a known issue already by gm.

28 Power Train problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

I have not experienced a safety incident, but have been warned not to drive the vehicle. The vehicle has 1850 miles. I recently got a message on the driver information display “rear axel system off”. I also receiver an email from onstar “engine/ transmission fault, seek service immediately”. After analysis at the dealer, they concluded with gm that the transmission needed to be replaced. They indicated that it is not safe to drive and I should leave it at the dealer. No other comment as to why. I found that gm reported (September, ‘21) that their transmission supplier had left out two of six bearings in several transmission units…and that they believed that only 19 vehicles were affected. Also commenting that this defect could cause a sudden loss of power resulting in loss of control…however no serious incidents have been reported. My vehicle was assembled in December ‘21… 3 months after gm’s discovery of the issue. I believe that the defective transmission issue is more extensive that gm is acknowledging. A replacement transmission was ordered for mine, but none is currently available (back-ordered). Local dealers are backlogged with transmission work. My service rep (reluctantly) admitted that this is the second c8 Corvette transmission they had to replace. This is a high-profit & high-profile vehicle for both gm and it’s dealers. I feel gm should disclose how many defective c8 Corvette transmissions they have replaced and more accurately assess the production-dates for affected vehicles.

32 Power Train problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/12/2022

Almost every c5 (1997-2004) Corvette is affected by a faulty electronic brake control module. When this module fails, the car illuminates the abs and traction control light. And displays service abs and service traction control messages. This is a serious safety issue as when this happens, the abs brakes no longer work nor does the traction control. It blows my mind how this has never been recalled especially on a rear drive sports car.

33 Power Train problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

April 26, 2022??via certified mail general motors 300 renaissance center detroit, mi 48243 request for informal dispute resolution/buy back vehicle: 2022 Chevrolet Corvette date of purchase: 4/2/2022 dealership of purchase: southern Chevrolet alexandria, la mileage at purchase: 26 mileage upon return: 105 I am writing this letter to inform you of problems that I am experiencing with the above referenced vehicle; which was purchased new from southern Chevrolet 5845 coliseum blvd alexandria, la 71301. As mentioned above, I purchased and obtained possession of the 2022 Corvette on 4/1/2022. At the time of the purchase, the Corvette had 26 miles on the odometer. The problems began on Sunday, 4/10/22, when I noticed fluid puddled under the car and shockingly the factory installed racing stripes bubbling in several areas. At that time, I immediately made contact with chaise crooks who was the salesman upon purchase to notify him of the problem and to request assistance with a loaner and much needed service appointment the following day. Mr. Crooks replied to my text message. The following day at 11:21am, I contacted mr. Crooks again and was informed that the earliest that I could bring the car to the dealership for attention would be Wednesday, 4/13/22. Of course, I was disappointed as this left me worried and without transportation to and from work. I asked again about a loaner and was informed that nothing was available, but it could be reevaluated if the car would need to be in service for a lengthy period. On 4/13/22, I dropped the car off and waited for 45 minutes for a courtesy shuttle because no one could locate the driver and the department was in complete chaos. On 4/13/22 @ 2:40pm, I received a call from mike mccann who identified himself as the service manager. According to mr. Mccann, the liquid that I located under my car wa.

34 Power Train problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

Transmission died after only 1400 miles, vehicle is brand new and I’m concerned about the transmission dying after only a few miles on a $110k car, already took it to a chevy dealer and confirmed it was the transmission and needed to be changed, warranty will cover it this time.

35 Power Train problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 01/21/2022

The transmission flutters when shifting on my 2015 Corvette. A potential catastrophic failure could cause a fire from transmission fluid hitting the hot exhaust. General motors is aware of the issue and has issued a TSB. I believe a potential fire and or collision exists if transmission fluid spills on the pavement. Transmission fluid could cause spinouts of vehicles on road behind a car with failure. My vehicle has been experiencing this for the last couple months. Two different dealerships offer to change the fluid in the transmission but no guarantee the internal components have sustained damage.
