1 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 02/14/2021

While driving the clutch pedal went to the floor and my standard 2007 Corvette could not be shifted. Car was flat-bedded to dealer as car was not drivable. I could have been killed in heavy freeway traffic. My vehicle had 8656 miles approx. Apparently gm issued service bulletins on this problem, redesigned the clutch master cylinder and issued an extended warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles there was no recall. Gm was to have noticed all owners of this problem but did not in my case. When I called gm they said that they were sorry but would not indemnify me for the $2,912. 18 cost to replace the master and slave clutch cylinders. In my case I was in a parking lot in motion. So luckily I am still breathing.

2 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

I was driving in s 35 mph zone and it changed to 45 mph. I was in 2 or 3rd gear and has just started up a slight incline and I was increasing speed when the car made a sudden jerk and loud almost a bang. I depressed the clutch and it stayed on the floor. I though that the clutch had came apart and I pulled the pedal up to see what was going on. The engine at that point was running very rough and would not hold speed or accelerate. I pulled into a parking lot and got my wife to pick me up. I then got my pickup and trailer and took the car to classic Chevrolet. They found where the valve had dropped into the cylinder and caused damage to the piston and rod. I looked at the engine while tore down and noticed what appeared to me to be a crack in the cylinder wall and pointed it out, the forman said the had checked it and didn't feel that it was a crack. They advised me to get a new head and have the other head worked on as well as a piston, etc. I did that and had the car repaired. When the car jerked it also affected the pressure plate so I had that replaced. After I got the car back I noticed it was smoking white vapor whenever I started it. I took it back to the dealership and the tested it and sure enough it was a crack in the cylinder. I then had the motor replaced and the dealership was very fair and credited the earlier work against the motor. When the motor let loose, the car locked the back wheels and the car behind me had to make a rather quick stop and Dodge me so as not to have a wreck.

3 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/16/2018

I was driving down my street ready to downshift my clutch as I prepared to enter my driveway. I lost control of my clutch as the pedal went to the floor and did not return. I almost lost control of my vehicle since I was not sure in that split moment on how to slow down my vehicle as I was preparing to enter my driveway. I immediately had to hit my brake pedal very hard to slow down my vehicle and came to a stop inches from hitting my home. I only wonder if I had been traveling on the highway or at some high rate of speed, what would have happened to my vehicle if could not engage my clutch and drive my vehicle. Since my powertrain became inoperable, I felt like I had no control of the vehicle. This is a dangerous condition and gm should have recalled the vehicle. Gm is very aware that the clutch could fail. They sent me a letter 4 years ago (copy attached) telling me they found an internal failure in the master clutch cylinder. But gm would not replace the clutch. That is dangerous situation to be driving and not sure when your you could lose control of your vehicle. I am lucky to be alive and unharmed today despite gm's failure to replace this defective clutch.

6 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/11/2015

I drove from gadsden al. To chattanooga TN. For a car show at coker tire. I had never had any issues with my 2008 Corvette z06 before. I parked the car and it sat for approx 5 hrs. As the group of people I was with began leaving. I entered the Corvette sat down buckled up push the clutch pedal down to the floor and attempted to start the car. When I pressed the start button the car lunged forward. I slammed my foot on the brake and shut the ignition off. I almost ran thru a crowd of people. When I settled down I realized the clutch pedal was stuck on the floor. The clutch master cylinder had failed. (but still allowed the car to be started in gear a major design flaw) it did not release the clutch pressure plate as was designed to do. The car was pushed down by hand to the coker garage. I came back Monday . With my trailer and hauled it back to gadsden al. ( I called gm and opened a case #71-1463296763. I explained what happened they seem very concerned about the incident and wanted to know if anyone was hurt. I told the gm rep that was a real safety issue with the design of the Corvette clutch system they did not acknowledge that this was an issue was very evasive did not answer my questions. I dropped the Corvette off at Chevrolet of gadsden and discussed the incident with the service manager. He said he would wait for a reply from gm. I was informed the next day that gm would not participate in the repair or admit there was a safety concern I was told the clutch master cylinder and labor were $900. I will have it repaired elsewhere I searched the internet and there are hundreds of case of clutch master cylinder failure on all types of gm vehicles but the Corvette z06 is the worst . It is only a matter of time before some one will die ( or probably has already) because of gm refusal to admit and recall the vehicles to be fixed.

8 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/20/2013

Clutch master cylinder failed causing the car to not be able to disengage clutch with pedal making it extremely dangerous to stop car or remove it from gear. Future attempts to start car with on-star on the phone so they could run diagnostic check remotely failed. 3 attempts to start car and it would not start. Towed to dealer and upon arrival towing company had asked for mileage of car. Exactly like above I pushed start button to turn gauges on dash, this time car started and overpowered emergency brake because it was still in gear and it ran into tow truck nearly hitting tow driver and was inches from cutting his legs off. In no way should this car have been able to start in gear and I believe it wouldn't have, had the clutch master cylinder not failed at only 4600 miles.

11 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/21/2007

Chevrolet 2005 Corvette. Aprox. 40,000 miles driving under normal conditions. Dry/sunny. Driving slowly in morning rush hour traffic. Changing from first to second gear. Pedal lost pressure, sank to the floor. Slave cylinder, hydraulic clutch failure. Line ruptured, squirtig brake fluid all over hot exhaust manifold, block, heads, firewall. Fluid caught fire . Seen smoke within two seconds after pedal sank to the floor. Popped hood seen flames. Was able to put out. Seems to be very dangerous , generic design and parts quality. Car is at the shop as I write this. Mech removed slave master line assembly. It seemed to be inferior for heat and pressure. Most was plastic and held together with a plastic clip. If any of the plastic cracks or fails, break fluid could spray all over your hot exhaust manifold. Such as in my case.
