This is happening intermittently, but frequently: automatic transmission shifter stays locked in park, despite engine running and foot firmly on the brake pedal. Can't shift out of park. This happens when car is parked, starting it up and trying to shift into reverse or drive. The problem has something to do with the electronic/mechanical interlock of the automatic transmission. There is an electronic switch or solenoid that is malfunctioning, the prevents the mechanical transmission lock from disengaging. To workaround the problem, you can try - turn the car off, and restart it. After multiple tries, if you are lucky the transmission interlock may release successfully. - there is an emergency workaround procedure where by putting the car in accessory mode before starting it, you can bypass the interlock system. - the Chevrolet dealers I have heard from recommend replacing the entire shifter system for $700-$1000. But the new shifters have the very same design problem! so new shifters are susceptible to the same failures in the future! when googling this issue on the internet forums, it appears this is a well-known problem affecting "6th-generation" Corvettes manufactured between 2005 and 2013. (I have a 2009 model. ) apparently gm has known about this problem for years, but has not invested in any recall. As a result, it appears many owners are choosing to disable the transmission interlock since it is unreliable. I would like to urge gm to issue a recall to fix this problem.

Automatic transmission shift lock solenoid fails, preventing trans. To lock into park and or can't place transmission in park. Gm corrected this condition starting with VIN number 75405780, VIN numbers before that still continue to have this safety condition.

Frequently unable to shift out of park once the car is started. Shift interlock solenoid seems to be faulty. Vehicle is always stationary in a parking space. Sometimes I turn it off and try again and it works. Very annoying.

On several occasions the vehicle would not shift out of park. It is an automatic transmission and it just becomes "frozen" in park mode. For instance- while waiting in a long line at the bank, I decided to shift out of gear until the line moved. It wouldn't budge. If an emergency situation arose- I would be unable to move. Many other Corvette owners are experiencing this same problem. Some of them have done a "fix" that bypassed other equipment and could be dangerous. My car only has 27,000 miles on it - this should not be happening! many of the other affected owners have gone to Chevrolet and have gotten the run around, because they say they need to see it happen in order to fix it. Well it happens randomly so that is a little hard. I think the problem is with a solenoid or safety feature that hangs up. Please help. I am a girl and I need a car that doesn't leave me stranded all the time!.

After initial start, and while holding brake pedal down, the automatic shift lever stays locked in "park," and cannot be shifted to other gears. The solenoid seems not to be engaging. This is an annoying occurrence, which happens too often. I can see safety issues arising from this problem. Problem began @ 2,500 miles. Vehicle now has only 3,100 miles, and still occurring. Vehicle is always stationary, and mostly occurs during initial start, when operation of vehicle begins. Also occurs after a few hours of vehicle operation, when parked, ignition turned off, then restarted minutes or hours later. Vehicle is always garaged, and this problem is not weather related.
Shifter at times is stuck in park, 2007 Corvette auto-transmission shifter at times is stuck in park. Have to restart engine and press down on brakes several times or shut off engine press access. Mode repeatedly to get it out of park. You can hear when the solenoid energizes and finally unlocks the shifter. Just started this year after 6,000 miles on car. Request research help.
Can not shift out of park on my 2007 Corvette automatic transmission. Solenoid not releasing park lock. Car was stationary in my garage.
Transmission shifter at times is stuck in park. Have to restart engine and press down on brakes several times to get it out of park. You can hear when the solenoid energizes and finally unlocks the shifter. Just started this year after 41,000 miles on car.
Shift solenoid locks and does not allow the vehicle to be released from park.
Car will not shift out of park after starting. This has now happened several times. Internet search reveals that this is a common problem with solenoid.
Automatic transmission shifter stuck in park. In the 2006 model both of these issues will eventually lead to being "stuck in park" and you cannot control when or where. It is a known issue with gm and they have failed to issue a recall because of the cars age. It is starting to effect newer models and likely the same or similar part. The safety locking solenoid goes bad, and the part is not replaceable on its own. You have to buy an entire shifter assembly. It will cost upwards of 700. 00 or more. If you force it into gear you can also break the shifter cable at a higher cost.
Our car is a garage queen and used very infrequently, its on a battery charger and fluid changes done annually. We noticed the car would not move out of park and into any gear. (ie. Stuck in park). It finally released and moves freely into any gear however when placed back into park there is no locking to avoid console mounted gear shifter from being bumped into gear. By law there is suppose to be a brake/gear/lock in all cars to avoid this. Unfortunately the brake pedal neithers stops or helps the gear selector from moving freely. Multiple online complaints suggest entire shifter needs replacement due to solenoid issue. Repair is over 1000. 00 for small part and effects entire model year with no recall issued to date.
2005 Corvette with automatic transmission. Shifter gets stuck in park and cannot be released. Has happened multiple times. Can only be released by following a series of steps as outlined in manual. Believe the cause is due to a defective solenoid in shifter control unit. Looking at different websites this seems to be a problem with many Corvette owners.
Transmission sometimes sticks in park & will not come out. The solenoide sticks & will not release.
A known gm defect exists on 2005 Chevrolet Corvettes. My automatic shift was stuck in park, hundreds of Corvette owners have suffered this exact defect preventing the vehicle to be moved, stranding the driver for hours in parking lots, garages etc. On a highway 215 beltway in las vegas nevada my Corvette was stuck in park, I could not get it in drive to move to a safe place. This has happened over 10 times. I contacted gm. They did respond, now are ignoring my issue. They have made no admission nor offering a resolution in this matter. My Corvette is now being repaired at ed bozarth Chevrolet in las vegas nevada at my expense for a bill of over $1,100. A defective shifter solenoid is part of the defect with a bending of the shifting cable & plastic shift assembly located under the center console. My Corvette is extremely well maintained by me. You may google-" 2005 Corvette automatic shifter defect" for further proof a serious defect common on this model creating a safety issue. . Read more...
Brake shift lock fails to disengage and leaves gear shift stuck in park. Leaves vehicle unable to be driven. Gm is aware of this wide spread problem but has done nothing to correct it. Charges unreasonable fees to fix because they will only replace entire shifter assembly when problem is only a much cheaper solenoid that can be replaced by itself. Car will leave you stranded with no warning.
Took the car in for an oil change and when I picked it up, they added 2 quarts of transmission fluid to the car. Didn't think much of it and left. 5000 miles later, while entering the freeway, the engine light came on and the car stalled. Went from 45 mph down to 5-10 mph, the steering wheel locked and I was about 3 seconds away from being rear ended by an 18 wheeler. The car was towed to the dealer and I advised them to call me with the diagnosis. They called and said my transmission solenoid was defective and needed to be change. I thought about the 2 quarts of fluid and thought to myself, why was it low and did this cause the breakdown? I called and told them not to touch the car until I was present. Went to dealer, the 32 year experienced transmission specialist checked the level of fluid and "OH my god, it is very low again". I had their service manager come and told him I wanted a gm rep to inspect my car before any repairs where done to it and that he did not have my consent to repair the vehicle. 8 days later the service manager calls and says "I fixed your car, the fluid was never low and come pick up your car or I will charge you storage and rental if you don't". I called gm and them talk to this guy and beg him to leave the car at the dealership until a rep was available, and he said " no way, I want this car out of here. So I go to pick up the car and noticed the repair invoice did not indicate the fluid was low and I asked him to fix it and he refused and said the 32 year gm transmission specialist made a mistake and needed to check the manual on how to check the fluid level. He then offered me and extended warranty and agreed to say on the invoice that the fluid level was low. To date no one can tell me why the fluid was low the first time or the second time. The dealers only explanation is that the car came from the manufacturer missing 2 quarts of transmission fluid. Contacted gm and bbb and just went to arbitration and waiting for verdict.
