Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact initially smelled an abnormal fuel odor emitting from the vehicle while driving at various speeds. The contact also noticed spots around his left rear tire in his driveway. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective fuel pump, and the fuel pump was replaced. Since the repair, the contact stated that his fuel gauge had become defective and would give false readings. 42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 06/02/2020

I had a valve drop and threw a rod thru my engine travelling at highway speeds on a busy highway. I lost engine power, power steering, and spilled oil and other chemicals onto the roadway. A thick cloud of smoke billowed from underneath and out the back of the car making it unsafe for cars travelling behind me. The dealer who has since inspected my car has stated it is a known issue that the "lifters are weak". After quite a bit of reading, it appears many other owners of the same car have experienced a multitude of issues with valves, lifters, heads, etc. Gm is aware of faulty parts but I cannot find any notice of recalls. Make/model: 2009 Corvette z06; engine: ls7.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

I have a 2015 Corvette stingray with 35k miles. The vehicle has been to the dealership 2 times already once at 11k miles and second time at 22k miles where the car should shudder while cruising at low speeds. Also in the morning during a cold start when I would shift the car from park into reverse then the car would do a hard shift. Twice the dealership changed the fluid in the transmission and rebuilt the entire transmission since the car was under warranty. But my car's extended warranty expired on 03/01/20, in 06/01/20 the issue came back. Now gm is refusing to take responsibility to fix the vehicle. When refueling, tank filler pipe accepts fuel only very slowly. Several different gas station pumps were tried, all kept clicking off every 3 seconds (as if tank was full). Tank was empty to take in several more gallons of fuel.

Right rear time cracked multiple times and supercharger rattle at lowes speeds.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/20/2020

Car is equipped with remote start. On April 20th I parked in the garage, put groceries away including some that went in the fridge in the garage. The Corvette keys were in my pocket. I set a timer for one hour for items I had put in the garage freezer to chill. When I went back at the one hour alarm, the vehicle was running in the closed garage. To use remote start the vehicle has to be locked first and I never lock the vehicle in a closed garage. Chance motion of those keys in my pocket had locked the vehicle and initiated remote engine start. I had just laid down to nap when the one hour alarm went off. I shudder to think what would have happened had I not used my alarm for those food items.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

2008 Corvette with 119000 has a strong odor of gas after filling up over a half of tank, but is showing no leaks. The gas cap is firmly in place and works correctly. I read that I should fill this out because it is a common issue with this model Corvette and could be a safety issue. I thought I had bought cheap gas but this has happened again in the last couple of days. I did see a recall letter from chevy but the car is over 10 years old but is under 120,000 miles. I have had it since June of 2018. The vehicle is parked in a garage and the odor is very strong. When the vehicle's gas supply drops below a half a tank, the odor goes away. I first noticed this in the fall of 2019, but have not driven the car very much until this past week. I have had a pot hole issue in Dec where a claim was filed but this has nothing to do with that. I was wondering if my vehicle would still be covered at no charge to me by the dealer or another chevy dealership closer to my home? I read where this is a very dangerous issue. I did guess at the sept date I first noticed it but it was on Wednesday March 25 that I filled up and smelled it again. Thank you for your assistance.

2008 Corvette c6 z06. Consumer writes in regards to valve guide machining issues.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

I was driving in s 35 mph zone and it changed to 45 mph. I was in 2 or 3rd gear and has just started up a slight incline and I was increasing speed when the car made a sudden jerk and loud almost a bang. I depressed the clutch and it stayed on the floor. I though that the clutch had came apart and I pulled the pedal up to see what was going on. The engine at that point was running very rough and would not hold speed or accelerate. I pulled into a parking lot and got my wife to pick me up. I then got my pickup and trailer and took the car to classic Chevrolet. They found where the valve had dropped into the cylinder and caused damage to the piston and rod. I looked at the engine while tore down and noticed what appeared to me to be a crack in the cylinder wall and pointed it out, the forman said the had checked it and didn't feel that it was a crack. They advised me to get a new head and have the other head worked on as well as a piston, etc. I did that and had the car repaired. When the car jerked it also affected the pressure plate so I had that replaced. After I got the car back I noticed it was smoking white vapor whenever I started it. I took it back to the dealership and the tested it and sure enough it was a crack in the cylinder. I then had the motor replaced and the dealership was very fair and credited the earlier work against the motor. When the motor let loose, the car locked the back wheels and the car behind me had to make a rather quick stop and Dodge me so as not to have a wreck.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/08/2018

Loud ticking coming from valves, worried to drop a valve when driving.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/04/2018

Defective valve guides. This first happened at 13,500 miles, and Chevrolet did replace the heads under warranty. Now it has happened again at 28500 miles and I have spent over $3100 in parts alone to fix the problem, which has been verified by the company who sold me the replacement heads. I provided the labor or the cost would have been $1700 higher. Four intake valve guides were beyond the Chevrolet replacement spec and another four were already at the Chevrolet service limit with only 15000 miles on the replacement heads. Obviously the problem occurred during city and highway driving.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

Fuel leak.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Two months ago, the car would crank, but not start. After several tries, and waiting overnight to continue trying, I had the car taken to the dealer. Tow driver drops car off flatbed, service writer gets in to cycle through to get mileage, etc, and the car starts. No error codes. They keep it for a few days, but no further problem. Ten days ago, same problem. Tow driver tries to start the car to drive off flatbed, without success. Dealer observes the problem, but, again, car starts for the service writer, and no codes. Leave it for several days, but no repeat of the prob. A few days ago, same problem, except now the car is on the verge of starting, not just cranking, and I can smell fuel (this was not the case previously). The car was low on fuel when I left, and the low fuel warning had come on a few miles before I stopped. So, I get some gas in the car, eventually 1/2 a tank, and now the car is just cranking, not on the verge, and aaa is called to tow it. At this point, the attempts are taking their toll on the battery, but I continue trying, and, while the tow truck is en route, it starts just like always (push button, engine starts, no lag or hesitation). Dealer thinks it's fuel related, but doesn't know what the problem is, so has no idea what to do. Online forums suggest that it's an overheated fuel pump relay, or connectors thereto, resulting ultimately in a complete fuse box replacement.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 05/14/2018

Took the car in for a chatter noise at idle and when stationary. I'm told that the torque tube needs to be replaced, the car only has 27,000 miles and it seems that this is a very dangerous thing to have happen if it fails why you are driving it and it causes major damage to the rest of the drive train. It is a major part of the drive train and an obvious defect with the Corvettes as noted in the forums. A recall is in order and chevorlet needs to step up to the plate and repair these to make this car safer before some one is seriously injured. The repair is very expensive at around 3,000. A repair that should never need to be done on a low mileage car.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/10/2018

Harmonic balance bad on car with only 50k.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/06/2018

My engine experienced valve guide failure while driving which resulted in a complete loss of power and spilled oil all over the road. The entire engine was destroyed. If I had not been able to pull over safely it could have been very dangerous.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 02/24/2018

On 2/24/18 while driving the vehicle in first gear taking off from a stoplight averaging a speed no higher than 30mph and not yet entering 2nd gear the vehicle made a loud screeching noise from the motor area and then abruptly stopped and shut off the engine. A dashboard warning of reduced motor speed appeared and the vehicle stayed in accessory mode only allowing the interior electrical systems to operate. The roadway that I was on being 3 lanes wide and at time of engine failure I was in the middle lane, I was forced to attempt to take vehicle off main roadway onto a side street. Being that the engine abruptly stopped, speed was lost rather quickly putting me in a dangerous situation where the vehicles behind me and next to me could potentially hit me endangering my safety. Additionally I had to cross over in front of oncoming traffic as the only available safe stop was a side street was on the opposite side of road. At that point I was able to stop the vehicle off the roadway onto a side street where the vehicle was then towed back to our residence. The vehicle was then later towed to our mechanic where bore scope inspection revealed a thrown piston and rod. At that time we authorized a tear down to be completed by the mechanic that revealed a thrown piston and rod in the 1st cylinder, which we have since found out is a known and common cylinder to fail. The rod was thrown through the block and piston shattering which made this catastrophic motor failure not allowing repair to be completed and the only option being a full motor replacement. The mechanic advised this was due to a faulty valve in the cylinder head. Symptoms I feel may have been related and ultimately contributed to this failure date back as far as the date I purchased the vehicle on 4/2/16 where vehicle engine made irregular noises. Vehicle was seen 4/18/16 by chevy stating noises normal and characteristic to alternator, as well as 11/14/17 when a cylinder 3 injector malfunction was detected.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/24/2017

Engine destroyed itself. With 56k miles on the engine a valve broke while running, falling into the cylinder where it was hit by the piston causing the piston to go into the engine block wall. There was a known issue with valves / valve guides in these engines. Chevy produced a service bulletin (#13-06-01-001) yet did nothing about the problem at the time. They've also refused to do anything to remedy my situation.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/09/2017

My Corvette is a z06 that is designed and built for track use. When I use it on track it overheats and goes into limp mode after about 15 mins. Sometimes the power steer faults making it difficult and dangerous to control the car. I do not use it regularly on the street.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/15/2017

I bought my 2008 z06 back in December 2016 with 27000 miles on it. Love the car but from I understand reading about the complains from other owners it has valve problems and the can give away at any time. Dear gm I don't care how you take this, but should my 2008 ls7 motor break down due to this specific situation you will fix it at your own cost, I am printing the complains from the forum about the ls7 motor issues, and if that ever happens to my car and you refuse to fix it, tv stations, radio stations, and news papers will know about this. Let me clear this is a statement I am making thank you.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Car goes into deferred engine power. Replaced throttle body 3 times. The car starts to vibrate and then shuts down. This is dangerous for the driver and could get killed. We have checked engine leaks, sensors, etc. The car will drive okey for a little while and then engine light goes on and then starts to vibrate and shuts down and stops. I have to wait a little while, sometimes it will start up and sometimes will not. I cannot drive long distances or at night for fear the car will just stop. This is dangerous. I do not know what to do. Brought to the dealer and they just say, get a new vette, they do not take this problem seriously. Nor do their technicians know how to work on a vette. They have had the directions on how to take care of the problem in a notebook. One tech left his notes in my car. If a doctor had to take out his notes to see how to do a surgery, I wouldn't go to him. Would you? '.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

Engine light goes on and goes into deferred engine power. Have replaced throttle body twice. Car run great and then the engine light will go on and when I start the car it starts to violently vibrate. I turn off. Sit for about 10 minutes and then try to start again. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Deferred engine power is dangerous. Sensors have been reset. This is an ongoing problem been to the dealer and they are price gouging. Problem has been going on for several months.

Torque tube or drivetrain (known issue by gm) causing danger to driver & passenger life while driving on road at any speed. Car purchased from official gm dealer in dubai, united arab emirates = al ghandi auto. Both gm & dealer in dubai refuse to acknowledge the several service bulletins (tsbs) for my affected vehicle, and are expecting me to pay a large amount of money for replacing a part which is already known by gm to be manufactured as defective and cause engine and transmission damage (and cause for probable accident and/or death) irrespective of mileage or warranty status. Car has been serviced only by gm dealer at 10 routine service intervals, and this issue or relaed TSB was never reported to me (the customer). Car is driven less than 60,000 miles and has zero accidents. Gm is endangering my life and the lives of all Chevrolet Corvette owners driving high performance cars with major known issues. I am fearful for my life and the safety of my family. Both gm and the local gm dealer refuses to acknowledge or discuss this serious and deadly issue. Is there any level of accountability from american auto makers, and can NHTSA please help my voice, concern, and complaint reach the right people at gm USA, gm uae, or al ghandi uae? afraid to drive & die, rahul sainani rsainani@gmail. 70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 03/13/2017

While passing a large truck on a rural highway (fm 2004) the engine dropped a valve which as I have been informed is a known issue on these cars with the z06 ls7 engine having premature valve guide wear. The motor locked up after the piston hit the valve resulting in catastrophic engine damage causing the rear tires to lock up as a result of the engine locking. I was able to apply the clutch and regain control of the car and there was no accident other than a close call with the 18 wheeler I was trying to pass. There are numerous instances of the same issues I have seen while researching with this car from 2007 to 2013 7. 0 liter engine from gm.
