11 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Recently involved in an accident where I was rear ended. Was stopped at a red light, light had just changed, I put my foot on the gas pedal to accelerate when I was hit from behind. Car is currently in the shop for the repairs to the rear end, bumper and deck lid.

12 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 09/25/2017

High resistance in deployment loop #8 drivers seat side airbag requires: replacement of airbag module 1 and only owner of the vehicle. Has not been involved in any accident or impact which may have caused airbag deployment - yet mid-August my "service airbag" light came on the dash. On 8/23/17 I took my vehicle to our local dealer for this issue (and to fix, for the second time, a prior recall of the power brake vacuum assembly) and was told dielectric grease was placed on the airbag connection and the airbag light went off. Weeks later the "service airbag" light came back on. On 9/25/17 the Cruze was taken by to our local dealer at which time we were notified there is high resistance in deployment loop #8 drivers seat side airbag and it would require replacement of the airbag. In both instances, the service airbag light came on as traveling straight down the road. As mentioned above, my vehicle has not been involved in any accident and nothing has been done which would have caused either the airbags to deploy or this "service airbag" light to engage. An airbag which should not require any replacement for the life of the vehicle, is now needing to be replaced at no fault of mine. This is clearly a manufacturer defect as there is nothing which I could or have done to cause this to require replacement. Yet, Chevrolet has indicated that since there is not a recall on this item yet and it is not covered under special coverages they cannot cover this. When you purchase a vehicle brand new and are the only one to own it (current mileage of 55,000) an airbag should not warrant replacement. There is no circumstance in which I should have to pay for the manufacturers defective airbag. A recall needs to be established for this as this is a safety issue which needs to be addressed immediately. Cost to replace airbag - $1,230.

21 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 08/05/2013

The car was coasting on a level road. Just before the driver applied the brake, the interior lights started flashing and the steering wheel locked. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor but the car did not stop. Then the front passenger airbag went off and then the drivers side airbag went off. No other cars were around. On star came on and stated that the occupants were just in a very serve accident and that emergency services were on the way. There was no damage to the vehicle at all. GMC sent out an inspector and he was surprised. A report was prepared and ultimately it was stated that the car was experiencing a roll over event. However, the data in the report does not support gmcs contention. One major error discovered on the report was that the sensor said it was a small adult sitting in the passenger seat. That adult weighed 265 pounds or more at that time. Next one of the data records says the event took place on 7/5/2013. One of the event recorders states the car was rolling in a clockwise flashing but another one shows the car was rolling head to toe. Finally, the graphical data shows no rollover in one sensor and a counterclockwise rotation in the other. GMC stated that they would fix the car for free and offered to pay medical fees and bills. The passenger suffered a broken collar bone, a ruptured ear drum and blood pressure on site of 220/140. The vehicle sensor stated that the vehicle was hit on the side (broadsided). The data recorder states that both airbags went off at the same time, but there was a three second delay between the passenger airbag, then the driver airbag. The passenger airbag indicator status was set to the off position, thus no passenger airbag should have deployed per manufacturer specs. No rear curtain airbags deployed. The report shows the airbag deployed outside the standards set for airbag deployment.

22 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

When driving with an adult female in the passenger seat, the airbag indicator indicates that the airbag is off. Adjusting the seat height sometimes remedies this problem, resulting in the indicator light indicating that the airbag is on. However, most of the time, the airbag remains off. We notified the Chevrolet dealer about this problem. They claimed it was normal. We purchased this car, in part, because of its excellent crash rating. It is most disturbing to realize that if we ever did get into a crash, the passenger-side aribag would likely not deploy. I have a hard time believing that this is "normal". I feel less than safe in this car. Please help in remedying this problem.

23 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/24/2012

The sensor to turn on the passenger side airbag does not turn on the airbag when my wife sits down. She weighs 115 lbs. . This is the second time this has happened. I first reported it to the Chevrolet dealer about six months ago. The first time the dealer called Chevrolet and changed the seat sensor. This fixed the problem until just this date, July 24, 2012. I just returned the car to the dealer with my wife in the seat and the airbag light indicating the bag was off and no one was in the seat. This is a serious defect and I think Chevrolet or the NHTSA should order a recall. They said it was a weight problem. I was told they would look into it and let me know what will be done. They also indicated it was not a new problem and was occurring in other products. I need your help to get this dangerous problem fixed. Thank you for your consideration.

24 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated the vehicle was parked with the engine in operation and she noticed the speedometer displayed a reading of 100 mph. The similar failure occurred sporadic and would fluctuate in the miles per hour. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times and they were unable to detect the malfunction. The failure continued to occur and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the computerized system was reprogrammed. In addition, the air bag warning indicator would not illuminate whenever the front seat occupant weight was 120 pounds. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. Js.

25 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 09/23/2011

The initial problem was the airbag indicator light did not come on when my wife sat down in the passenger seat. It was an intermittent problem with the light not coming on to show the airbags were active. We took it back to the dealer and they could not duplicate it. I waited about a week and it happened again. I took it to the dealer with the airbag light off with my wife in the seat. They replaced the sensor in the seat. For about a week all was ok. Then we were coming home from a shopping trip and my wife sat down and the light indicating the airbags were active did not come on. I drove directly to the dealer, about thirty minutes, and with my wife in the seat showed him. The service manager called gm and was on the phone for about 45 minutes. They connected the vehicle to the gm computer with my wife in the seat and ran a number of tests. The gm people indicated to the service manager that they were aware of the problem and told him not to touch anything that the vehicle meets all government specifications. They said they would call back in 24-48 hours. They did and claimed there was nothing wrong with the airbags and said all of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruzes were the same as mine. They said there was nothing more to be done. The problem has not reoccurred yet, but we are skeptical about the outcome and notified you folks. I just hope if we have a headon and the light indicates the airbag is off we will have a problem and gm will have a problem.

26 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that the front air bag light would intermittently illuminate while driving 30 mph and above and when a passenger was seated in the front passenger seat. The failure mileage was unknown.

27 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The first safety issue was noticed within the first week of ownership. The air bag indicator light indicated "off" with an adult passenger in the passenger seat. This car has been to the dealership 4 times for this issue and it remains unsolved. The second safety issue was noticed in October or November 2012. The car fills with an odor of anti-freeze when the heater is in use. The car has been to dealership 4 times for this issue and it remains unsolved. I feel these are both extreme safety issues that should be investigated as it appears to be a problem in many of the 2011 Cruzes.
