The vehicle has had a random bucking motion (as if you ran something over) since I purchased. The garage says they can't find anything. It has manifested to a check engine light, the vehicle randomly shutting down, oil consumption beyond (2. 5 qts) in two weeks. All I am told is that this is known problem with the Equinox and it is probably the pistons, the cam sensor and likely $3-4,000 to repair. How is it, that this is a known problem and we as consumers have to pay twice to own their product? shutting down while driving, without any warning lights, oil low without warning lights. . . Not a safety issue??? gm, what's wrong with you? no integrity, that's for sure. From the volume of the same complaints, why is this not a recall. Gm clearly messed up on this one. Done venting as this won't pay for a new car. Don't buy an Equinox!.
I do not know exactly when this happened indications by trials and spots of oil on the streets say that it happened after I returned home when I started to my next destination as described later. It was on city streets if this analysis is correct. I was likely going straight. This is a safety issue two reasons - the engine could lock up causing rapid deceleration and/or loss of control causing an accident - if I had been stranded at the temperatures of -4 to +9 degrees and wind chills -15 to -30 I would have been in danger. On Wednesday January 30, 2019 left for work. The temperature was -4. After a short distance I stopped at my third stop sign and the engine surged while idling, at the next stop all seemed fine and from there to wok all seemed fine. I left work and drove 2. 8 miles and the engine surged briefly and died. I drove about 27 miles home, no apparent problems. I drove to another location just over one mile away. On my way back home, about mile from home the engine reduced power notification appeared as well as a message about the traction control. Just as I rounded the corner on which my house is the low oil pressure message came on. The rear main seal had blown out. This car has 67,477 miles. It was out of warranty 11/25/18. Two mechanics said it is common in several gm vehicles. One said he could not believe the number of calls he got about this issue, because of the bulletin he was sending people to the dealership for coverage under a special warranty, he could not believe it when I told him chevy would not help me since my VIN was not included since it is the same vehicle, same engine as those in the bulletin 14882, document id 4098165. My dealer said that he argued with gm that these are the same cars and engines but they would give no assistance. He said it was a bad design and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it.
My car engine seized up due to an oil leak from the rear of the engine due to severe cold temperatures below zero degrees (-18 degrees c). As I was driving the car started making noise and came to a complete stop with all of my oil released from it. The car was moving at the time of the incident.
I purchased a 2013 chevy Equinox on 5/2/16. On 1/1/18 with 84,000 miles, I was on the highway with my 4 children and the stability track, reduced power warning flashed, engine malfunction warning, and then a message to stop the engine. I pulled to the side of the highway in 0 degree weather with my and stopped the engine. After waiting over 2 hrs I was towed home. On 1/2/18 chevy's corporate office advised towing to chevy dealer. I took all of my service records as requested. 2 days later I was told the main seal failed and was not under warranty and chevy had refused any repair cost assistance so $1500 was the quote later that day they quoted me $2000. I purchased the chevy 18 months prior and owe way too much money. After going back and forth with jeff schmitt chevy in beavercreek, OH and chevy's corporate office, each blaming the other for refusing repair assistance and not honoring the warranty. I had the vehicle towed back home and was billed $130. 00+ for a diagnostic. The dealer acted annoyed by my request to have the results of the diagnostics in writing on the bill. I was also racking up a rental car tab. The next day I called other dealers who quoted $1300 but the seal was on backorder. I located a dealer 2 hours away who had the part in stock and quoted $1300 based on the diagnostic. I had the car towed 2 hours away $ to find out the intake manifold had failed causing the seal to fail and cost $2200. Bs diagnostic? this chevy burns oil like crazy. 1000 miles after an oil change and the dipstick is dry, but no oil leaks. ? now the liftgate has gone rogue. It opens and then closes very forcefully (violently), immediatly after opening injuring me. I find it extremely hazardous and have banned my children from operating the liftgate for fear that it may crush one of them. Generations of my family have been very loyal to chevy. Chevy, where does your loyalty lie?.
