Vehicle is using excessive amounts of oil between oil changes. The vehicle has always been very well maintained and only has 85,000 miles on it. The vehicle now dies or stalls and is inoperable. I have noted hundreds of complaints about this issue and a prior recall for earlier model years. A service bulletin was published but vehicle owners were never informed of the well known issue. I now have a vehicle that is worthless after buying it new in 2013.

While at idle, the car stalled. Was able to restart the engine but as soon as I took my foot off the break and pressed the gas, the car would stall again. Had it towed to the dealership and they diagnosed it as a misfunctioning intake camshaft solenoid. Part was replaced. This same issue has been reported numerous times. This needs to be recalled before serious injury occurs. My kids were in the car with me when this happened.

There is a problem with the actuator solenoids with the 2012 chevy Equinox. While operating the 2012 chevy Equinox in any capacity it stalls especially when accelerating from a complete stop causing the vehicle to stop in oncoming traffic. They cause the vehicle to also stall when backing and or even when in idle. We have replaced these twice in the last 5 months.

Low pressure warning, car stalls out while moving, left stranded. Car was taken to dealer and said pvc plug was clogged causing engine rear seal failure. This is a recall on this model but my VIN was not covered, enough though the model year was. I think this recall needs to be expanded.

On 2. 25. 19 while stopped at a red light my car stalled twice when I gave it gas to go, than while trying to back into a parking space it stalled twice. On my way back to work the engine light came on, after a day or two it went out. Today 3. 5. 19 on my way to work I was driving and the lights dimmed and the radio turned off for about a min. Or so and when it came back on it was like I had just started the car. After getting gas I started my car and before I put it in gear it stalled out, restarted it and it kept stalling about 6-8 times than finally I turned it on and it didn't hesitate or the dash light dim so I put in gear and it drove ok but I was worried that it might stall when I was making a turn or in the middle of an intersection. This is a very dangerous condition if you are driving and your car just stops in the middle of the road. There was a recall on the 2011 Equinox for this same problem and if so many people are having the same problems on other years 2010-2016 noted then there should be a recall on all these years and get this problem fixed. I notice that unless there a number of deaths involved these dealers/manufactors don't do anything about fixing these problems. We spend lots of money on these cars and we should't have to worry if we're going to have an accident in them with our families. The times this has happened it has been in gear or while I am putting it in gear. The 2011 recall 11195a.
I have had my SUV worked on 6 different times due stalling, loosing power, cutting out,and not wanting to accelerate . They replaced the throttle body updated the computer replaced air filter, etc. Worked for 2 weeks and now is still having this problem.

I have not had this car a year yet and it stalled on me twice while I was backing out of the parking lot. Luckily there was no CA parked in front of me so I had to pull out straight to drive. I drove for maybe another 20 minutes and the car stalled on me twice while I was sitting at a red light. The car started back up and then stalled on my while I was driving on the city street. I have a full tank of gas, 46% oil in the vehicle and coolant in the vehicle. I get my oil changed every 3000 miles.
In January of 2019, my wife was driving our 2012 chevy Equinox. She told me that she was stopped at a light when the engine suddenly started running rough and died. She was able to restart it but it continued running rough so she pulled into a near by parking lot. The car stalled again but she was not able to restart it. She called me and we had the vehicle towed to our usual mechanic. He checked out the vehicle and determined that the rear seal had failed and the engine lost a large amount of oil. He advised that there was a problem that gm was aware of and that we should take to vehicle to a chevy dealer to see if they will cover the repair. We ultimately paid $2022. 00 for the repair because we were told it was out of warranty.

Car stalls while driving, while stopped in traffic car will stall when brake is released and will also stall while pushing the accelerator. Stalls while in drive and reverse.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 5 mph from a stop sign, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator flashed. The vehicle was taken to kent Chevrolet Cadillac (1413 hwy 62 e, mountain home, ar 72653, (870) 495-2605) where it was diagnosed that the camshaft actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 173,000.
Briefly, for the last month and a half I have experienced rough idle on start and rough idle & stall with the car losing power and going dead at red lights and in traffic while in drive. I took the car to the auto mechanic and stored codes suggested replacing O2 sensors, the catalytic converter and a tune-up would resolve the issue; I replaced all of the above to the tune of 1400. 00; the issue of rough idling, stall & losing power, going dead at the light/ sitting in traffic has not resolved. The 2012 Equinox is not safe to drive; it just keeps stalling and going dead/losing power while in drive. I have spent almost 1400. 00 trying to diagnose and fix this issue since December 1. My car does not have the cel but still idles roughly, stalls and loses power/stops randomly at red lights and in traffic. I have been unable to safely use the 2012 Equinox for approximately three out of the four weeks of December. Out of frustration I googled my experiences with the car and discovered that this apparently is a common issue that was found in the 2011 model (see NHTSA id# 10430919; 10437891; 10499684 & 10413320. Recall#11195 & 12312. Bulletin #pi0562, pi0202a, pip4716 & pi0469). Apparently this issue was not fixed or addressed in subsequent models as I have been unable to locate a service bulletin or recall although my car a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox is having the same issue. The consumer should not have to pay 1,000's of dollars diagnosing and fixing known manufacture defects. Subsequent vehicles made after the issue was found in th 2011 should have been fixed or should be covered under service bulletins & recalls especially since the car idles rough when starting, loses power and cuts off while in drive with your foot on the brake in stop & go highway traffic or at street red lights- this is very unsafe and can result in an unnecessary accident or even god forbid a fatality.
My veh stalled on me mid drive said engine power reduced, it did not let me accelerate and I almost got hit. Simultaneously the stabilitrack message came on and watch for ice, did this happen because of the cold? also few days later it was storming and my wipers stopped in the middle of the window and I was on the fwy in the fast lane. I had to get soaked from rolling m window down to pull over. Roadside came to stop traffic to let me on the right side shoulder because I was lucky I had room to pull over or even see in the first place. I couldnt see anything!.
As driving Nov 19, 2018. The car stalled, engine problem, my husband had to push across three lanes of traffics ! almost got run down . For no reason the car just stopped running! we were putting one quart of oil per week?? in between regular oil changes. The car was towed, our mechanic told us engin seized, needed a new engine?? we still owe 3700 on the car and it doesn't run?? I'm so mad that this has been an on going problem with this year and model?? gm owes us a new car!!.
When at stops car would stall. Now being told camshaft position actuator issue. I noticed many others have the same issue.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked violently while driving and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body injector needed to be installed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 168,000.
On oct. 23, 2018, engine light came on in the morning. Called onstar in afternoon for code;onstar did not provide code but said it should be serviced ASAP and made appointment at nearby dealership for next morning. That evening when braking to leave a parking area, the engine completely died/stalled out. Had car towed to dealer. Dealer replaced solenoid sensor.
This is a safety complaint. I carry my grand kids and am worried for our safety. It has not happened due to the very low mileage and am trying to be proactive. I know of many many happenings. The cars starting at ~ 5000 miles will stall out at signals & on the road. This will probably happen to me when I reach 5k miles. The car has a defective engine that gm cannot fix. I'm afraid of a rear end collision and fire. The car needs a new engine. Thank you for reading this and hope it gets rectified ASAP. This SUV has had a new transmission, motor and now it has been just cuts out and no power and on the message center says stability track light we have put a new battery and brought it to two different gm certified car garages and no one knows what to do car is unsafe when it just decides to randomly stall out and has no power until after it sits for about 5 min it may restart or may need a jump start very scary situation it can happen when driving on freeway or in town or even in line a drive thru line in park you never know this has happened about 6-8 times and there is no warning of when it will happen nor any kind of pattern very scary and unsafe.
I've had this vehicle for 10 months and it's been in the shop more than anything. It's already on its second engine and that was September 14th, now October 23rd it is now needing a transmission. This doesn't include the unbelievable amount of oil changes and tune ups. I've stalled in reverse and drive. The car died out while driving and is extremely loud at times. All I have for documents are my receipts. I'm disabled with children and when I thought we were buying a car we bought a lot of problems instead. Constantly trying to still find rides to dr appts and such. I'm very disappointed that a recall hasn't been done yet, after the all the complaints on said vehicle.
Vehicle timing chain broke 3 months out of warranty. I had 57,000 miles on the car. Chevrolet refused to acknowledge a problem or pay for any repair costs. The vehicle (including the power steering) completely stalled out while I was turning off a busy state highway on a holiday weekend. I was stranded in the lane of traffic until I was safely able to get a couple of good samaritans to assist with physically pushing it off the road.
While driving at constant speed and rpm oil pressure goes from 30psi to 70psi. It doesn't seem like high oil pressure is as big a problem as low pressure. My other cars do not do this as oil pressure goes up with rpm so I asked mcdaniels service technician and service manager if this was normal. Technician said he couldn't repeat it but it does it all the time. I asked if this was normal and they both weren't sure. In October the service manager said he would check and get back with me but as of Jan 30, 2019 I have no response. I have called a few times but no call back. I called gm customer care and corporate office. They said they would follow up but when I called back in January they just said I have to take it to the dealer again. Actuallay I'm not sure this is normal or not on the 1. 5t Equinox. It may be normal, maybe gm has a variable pressure pump to add pressure for variable valve timing. The problem is the technicians, service manager and customer care have not been able to tell me this. They should know or be able to get an answer for their customers on technical questions. Cars are more technical today and the technicians and customer support should be more technical to address these issues. Regardless they should be able to answer customers questions in a timely manor and tell customers if they have a problem or not. Three months is too long to wait for answer, it seems as though any issue is stalled or delayed to try to wait untill the customer gives up or the warranty expires. I'm glad this is just a minor isssue -I hope.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled. No warning indicators illuminated and a strong odor of fuel was present inside the cabin. The contact started the vehicle normally after approximately 2 minutes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a failure could not determined. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer ferman Chevrolet tampa (9751 e. Adamo drive, tampa, FL 33619) where the failure was diagnosed as a fractured timing chain and the engine had to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and case number: 8-4527816728 was opened. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Bp.
This vehicle (79,000 miles) began stalling as we approach idle and requires it to be put into neutral and restarted - this is a serious safety issue. It is intermittent and there is no engine lights on or codes when checked. It has happened in town, in the country on a highway, and in our driveway. It has had multiple fuel types/brands in it since this started with no resolution. As I did research this issue online, it seems way to common and now I worry that our only reliable vehicle is not something we can count on any longer. Please consider an investigation with a recall to make Chevrolet fix the common issue spanning over several years of the same engine.
This is a complaint thats common in Equinox 2. 4l the oil comsumption and its stalling when idling.
Car constantly goes through oil, and today started stalling when I stop or start to accelerate.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while idling at a stop the vehicle stalled. The check engine was illuminated. Additionally , the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic where informed that the cam shaft sensor needed to be replaced. The contact purchased and replaced the part. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and provided service request number 8-4214923931 and referred the contact to the local dealer. The failure mileage was 94,722. Ap.
Car stalled out while stopped at a stop light. Was able to restart and drive home. Was scheduled for an oil change the next day, went to drive the car and made it three houses down before it stalled out while driving. Engine light came on and would not start back up. Had it towed to a repair shop and they said it jumped time, and the timing chain broke and made a mess of the engine. Engine needs to be replaced. Failed at 73k miles. Bought the car certified used at 36k two years ago and have had it serviced regularly. Don't have money for repairs and chevy dealer won't fix. . . .
The vehicle uses an excessive amount of oil which has ruined the pistons and cylinders. It is only a matter of time before the engine dies while driving. It has had problems with stalling out while idle or starting to go due to this issue as well as rough idling. It is the same issue the 2011 and 2012 models had and they received a replacement/recall.
My vehicle has been stalling any time I slow down to pull into a parking space, come to a stop at a light or slow down. My mechanic says its a problem with the Equinox they say its an on going issue that they see. I also have to add oil every week or so because it becomes extremely low even though it says I have oil on my dash gauges. I have always kept up my oil changes, very rough sounding . Very low miles under 35,000. Not sure why this is not being addressed. Not safe to be stalling all the time. Everyone knows there is a problem why is it not being addressed.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was determined that there was no oil in the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and requested that the vehicle be towed to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The failure mileage was 84,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving approximately 60 mph, the traction control and low power warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to lou lariche Chevrolet (40875 Plymouth rd, Plymouth, mi 48170) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,400.
The car didn't start after parking for food pickup, we noticed that after getting a boost, the 'engine light' was lit, it stayed on. This happened twice again, but we used our insurance road side assistance, again the 'engine light' remained lit. This has happened multiple times, whereas we purchased a battery charger. During drive/ waiting at multiple red lights, and backing out of parking spaces, the car stalls- to the point we put it 'n', after experiencing stalls when placed in 'p'. The oil can be low, but no indicator on the panel, but the panel reads check electrical system, so we took it to a shop and informed it was the battery, seeking another opinion, we were told it wasn't the battery, but another part of the electrical system. Upon trying to have the car inspected, we were turned down due to the 'engine light'. We went to a reputable car part dealer, and informed it was the timing chain, timing sensor, along with (2) two other codes. The battery is hid under a housing/ cover, which made it hard to get a boost, when the recommended charging procedure didn't work. This is very frustrating, and research leads us to understand, that a costly repair is ahead. Plus, our research of the experienced problems, shows that they occurred in earlier models. The (2013)vehicle was purchased from a national car rental agency, Nov 2015, is it possible that this vehicle was defective at purchase time, with unresolved issues as earlier models? additionally, the car has veered/ jerked to either side, from stop to go, and while driving, without us turning the wheel. Thank the lord the latter, occurred at low speeds, and dry pavement. The 'when did this happen' date is the latest date, not the only date.
3 complaints contained within - complaint #1 - I have had multiple issues with cam shaft actuators and exhaust issues in this vehicle. This has caused my vehicle to stall in busy intersections and to also go into "limp" mode on the interstate. Going 70mph and the engine going into limp mode is dangerous. Thankfully there were alert driver around me that were able to help me get to the emergency lanes safely. There were recalls for this vehilce for some of these issues - but conveniently - my vehicle was not recalled. Three different gm/Chevrolet dealerships have worked on my vehicle and have contacted gm on my behalf - but gm has covered no fixes and I have been out over $2000 on these fixes that were covered under recalls - but not on my vehicle. 2nd complaint - I now have fuel pump issues. Again, a recall was issued in July 2016 for fuel pump issues. The recall is for the same year, make and engine as mine. . . . But my vehicle is not covered under recall. . . . . Even my vehicle will stall out while idling at intersections and again - safety issue. I have children and do not feel safe with this happening. Gm seems to not be concerned. 3rd issue - takata recall - my air bag alert light will come on - but I have not received a recall for this issue - yet again - my vehicle seems to not be on the list. Safety issue - yes. I have had an open case number with gm corporate for at least 3 years - but suggestions always seem to be on my dime. . . . Not theirs. At this point - my vehicle is a "lemon" in my eyes. . . And if me or my family get injured because of these issues. . . Well. . . . .
