2012 Chevrolet Equinox. Constituent writes regarding engine failure due to excessive oil consumption, the consumer was unaware of a recall due to purchasing the vehicle used. The repairs estimated to be nearly $8000. 00 which is the price of the vehicle's worth. The manufacturer was conatacted, but denied responsibility due to the class action suit being expired. However, they did offer to pay 1/3 of the cost, which left the consumer with the $8000. 00 remaining balance.

Yesterday was pretty scary my car cut off every 5 mins while driving I had no control. I've gotta everything I could think of fixed. . I was driving down gratiot & conner when it just stopped on me at the greenlight as I was turning. Now I am really scared to get back in it. I feel like gm knew something was wrong with these engine/motor and still won't do anything about it the oil consumption is crazy y'all won't be happy until someone get seriously hurt. My car jerks the whole drive really bad at stop lights after a while it just turns off I don't know what to do. I can't afford to keep fixing help me ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
Oil consumption is still at an alarming rate, had the "recall" done by the dealership but it is still not fixed. Called the dealership they said there isnt another recall. Putting in a formal complaint to get this vehicle fixed. As today it experienced its first engine seize. And it burned through 4 quarts of oil in 4000 miles.

Engine timing was off about a year ago. Had to get my vehicle towed and spend a lot to repair it. Low oil was spotted at that point, but the special warranty wasn't out yet detailing to replace catalytic converter and O2 sensors if there was high rates of oil consumption. Nearly a year later, and I'm seeing timing issues again. I am not seeing high engine oil consumption yet. I believe there are many additional issues wrong with these engines from 2010-2017 Equinox/terrain that have still not been addressed. People are experiencing these issues and having their whole engines replaced multiple times just for the issues to come back on a new engine.
Engines are burning to much oil causing the engine to need to be replaced.

We purchased a preowned 2013 chevy Equinox from Chevrolet dealer in 2017 and have noticed high oil consumption. Have taken it to regular oil changes and on some occasions were told we had an oil leak, but we never noticed leaks. Now we requested a diagnosis from dealer because the oil consumption has gotten real bad. We were told that we may have small leaks and also an issue with the pistons that are allowing engine to consume oil at a high rate. They quoted a cost of fix of $5055! seems to me from lawsuits that Chevrolet knew they were selling me a lemon and feel this issue should be fixed by them at no cost to me. The high rate of consumption of oil is while driving the vehicle.
My vehicle is burning an excessive amount of oil and no oil light comes on to let me know my oil is low. I was driving home from work on the highway when my engine started knocking because I had no oil. I had to put oil in my car 3 times within 3,000 miles because it was almost empty. Had to have new converter put on due to consuming so much oil. I was never notified about the special warranty to change piston rings until my special warranty expired. I also had the oil consumption test done and gm is doing nothing to help fix my vehicle.
Oil consumption. Its bull crap that there has been no recall and we are taking losses!!!.
Constant burning of oil, up to 1 quart in less than 1,000 miles. Had oil consumption test done due to all the negative reviews on oil consumption issues with this motor, and lifetime powertrain warranty refuses to cover any repairs that could be associated with oil consumption.

This year and model of the Chevrolet Equinox has a known issue for oil consumption. I am getting an oil change, on average, every 1,500 miles. My car has stall while driving on the interstate. It stalls most mornings after being turned on for 15-20 seconds. I've also had it stall when changing gears. This is very unsafe for any driver and then engine needs to be replaced.

I have had constant high oil consumption, have had to replace vvt solenoids twice, timing and balance shaft chains had to be replaced, engine misfiring. Can barely go 2 months without any issues. Always something wrong. I've looked this up and many people have had similar issues with this engine.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact had received an unknown manufacturer's recall notification for excessive oil consumption due to piston ring wear and took the vehicle to Chevrolet of milford, inc. (655 bridgeport Ave, milford, CT 06460) for the recall repair. The dealer informed the contact that per the manufacturer's policy for the oil consumption test, the vehicle needed to be driven for 2,000 miles then the recall could be repaired. The contact stated that after the vehicle was driven close to the 2,000 miles as directed by the dealer, the vehicle experienced rattling and knocking then stalled. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer. The failure was diagnosed that the crank had no compression and that the engine needed to be disassembled to examine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was over the warranty coverage period and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.
Excessive oil use. Burns 1 quart of oil per week. Requires 1 quart of oil every 300 miles. This is getting insanely expensive and annoying. No low oil light comes on but a check engine light does. I never let the engine start to knock before adding oil, but there is a serious problem here. And it sounds like lots of other people have reported the same issue. Gm needs to seriously look into this before they get sued drastically.
Car burns oil as fast as it does fuel. It stalled in a bad traffic situation that almost got me and my two children into an accident.
Oil consumption. 76,990 miles with excessive oil use. No leak did a complete check over a 2 week period to make sure no leak. . Just using about 1 quart oil in about 2 weeks/ only driving 2 and from work about 28 miles round trip 5 days a week.
Purchased the vehicle April 2019. Have proof of 6 oil changes and proper maintenance while driving for less than 2 years, but due to no warnings of low oil on the vehicle and with a confirmed defect stated by my mechanic. This 2. 4 l ecotec engine has massive oil consumption defects. This vehicle needs to be recalled. It stopped in the middle of the street while I was driving. Further research confirms this defect beyond the stated 2010- 2013 recall.

There is documented history with the oil consumption problem these vehicles have had. I am just one more person filing this. I do believe there is a risk of injury if the vehicle fails while driving. I also believe, however, that the only way for the masses of individuals affected by the fundamental engine issue to have any recourse is to have a recall issued.
2012 chevorlet Equinox with 2. 4l engine with 123,525 miles has many safety concerns. As a result of this specific engine, there are issues that affect the quality of safety. This vehicle has excessive oil consumption, needs frequent oil refilling (at least 1quart/weekly), and emits the smell of fumes and lingers when vehicle is on. I am not able to have the car on stopped at a stoplight or simply while in park without the overwhelming smell of fumes. This vehicle has completely shut off on two occasions: first, it shut off halfway up a ramp leading off from the highway and second, during a red light at a busy intersection. There were vehicles driving behind at both times. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle, nor do I think it is safe to have others in the car.
My vehical is burnig oil I have chaged my oil twice already this year I just changed two sensors now im getting a code for the converter.
Found a pool of oil on the driveway in the morning, had it towed to a dealer, told the main rear seal let go, oil changed at dealer 5 days prior for an oil consumption check, because of constant oil loss, in the past two years. Never had a visible leak on the engine or oil spots on the driveway or garage since owning the vehicle since 2014.
With only one day notice my alert system noted on my dashboard to reduce power. And taking my vehicle to a repair shop, I was told that my engine was ruined because of excessive oil consumption, which is a well-known problem for the chevy Equinox. My car is a 2015 chevy Equinox. The reason I feel that it is a safety issue is because the car just shuts off and dies on the highway even though I was only able to go 30 miles an hour. I have three small children in the vehicle and was almost hit several times when the car continued to stop. I stop driving on highway until I could get home and then the car died in driveway and I had no breaks even to stop the car from rolling. I feel like this should be a issue that GMC should back up because it is supposedly a well-known fact that the chevy Equinox has a high consumption of oil usage. I was never told that information when I purchased that vehicle as a used vehicle three years ago. I owe $11,000 on this vehicle that I am being quoted $8000 for repairs. If there is a class action lawsuit regarding this problem then my name should be entered in that lawsuit so that I could get the repairs done on my vehicle so that I am able to get back-and-forth to work and get my children to school and get my vehicle repaired.
Chevrolet Equinox has an abnormal amount of oil consumption. Every 1,500 miles or lower it has to be replaced with more oil, at least a 1 quart to 2 because it gets so low so fast.
Equinox smells like burning oil and now it's begun to stall at random times usually while backing up or foward at low speeds or stopped. Had this vehicle 6 months and haven't even put 4,000 miles on it. Odometer shows 36,645 miles.

I am following up to an ongoing issue regarding our 2013 chevy Equinox that recently had the lower end rebuilt due to excessive oil consumption. For some brief history on the vehicle, it began using a significant amount of oil around the 70,000-mile mark. Prior to the lower end rebuild, I was adding nearly 8 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. The vehicle has 95,000 on it now. Fast forward to late this past winter [early 2020], I received a letter in the mail stating the sca (15285/16118 coverage) was extended for the 2013 model year 2. 4l ecotec. Upon receiving the letter, I was in the process of making an appointment for the oil consumption issue, however, this was the same time the state of wisconsin shut down for covid reasons. This was, unfortunately, was around the time the extension was going to expire. Once, restrictions were lifted an oil consumption test was performed. The initial oil change occurred in April 2020. The vehicle was found to consume a significant amount of oil. Holiday automotive of fond du lac, WI performed this test. The engine, without a doubt, was in need of a lower end rebuild. This rebuild was scheduled and completed in December of 2020. Via communication between myself and holiday automotive of fond du lac, gm has agreed to cover half of the costs, but in the end this is still very significant. The work has been completed, but I am now between a rock and a hard place with the vehicle. The extension window that gm provided was narrow to say the least.
Massive oil consumption! in between oil changes constantly needing to put in at the least a 5 quart jug of oil. In turn causing my car to jump at stoplights almost causing me to hit the person in front of me which was caused from low oil. Then it is now causing my engine to misfire. Which includes very poor acceleration which almost caused an accident as I was crossing across another street to almost get hit from the side and another time when turning same thing almost happened. Then when my car is in park it is starting to stall out. Now needing to bring it to a shop once again.
Hello, I bought this 2013 2 weeks ago. Had it checked out by the mechanic at the dealership for an extra charge and they said nothing was wrong with it! fast forward 2 weeks to the day I got the car. . . . Check engine lights came on. . . Oil etc. . . . Took to mechanic and they said there was no oil, I got a $100 oil change and the next day the oil was gone again and has created me a problem now that I can't get to and from. What's going on? how come consumers aren't being made aware of the oil consumption issue before purchasing a vehicle? disgusting!.
No one told me when I got this car how bad the oil consumption was! I go through 5 quarts of oil in less than 2,000 miles. It's stalled out while driving with no warning. It's super dangerous.
Engine oil consumption. Vehicle is consuming 4 quarts of oil per week. This results in a loud vehicle, and shaking during a stop. There is no leak in the oil canister, for I have spent $1100 on it recently. The engine is burning the oil at an unreasonable rate.
I took my SUV to the dealership on 1-8-2020 and informed them that engine light stayed on,and had a little shake, felt like it was going to cut off,and it was burning oil, left vehicle at dealership for a couple of hours, got a call saying there was no oil on dip stick, so there was a oil change did, and told to drive for 1000 miles then return for recheck, possible camshaft position fault, drove car ,but before it meet the 1000 miles in had to add a quart of oil to vehicle this was over the weekend, called and informed dealership they said to bring it back so they could check it, took SUV back and was told they couldn't find nothing wrong, but it was still taking alot of oil, now the camshaft is no good, they just didn't want to fix the problem when the warranty was on it, now that the warranty is gone they want me to pay for the work, fyi there was a warranty on the SUV when I was complaining so it could have be fixed then, the same problem I was complaining about,is the same problem I got now,why do dealerships always get over people, the camshaft went out 11-23-2020.
In early November of 2020 my Chevrolet Equinox engine failed due to excessive oil consumption and burning oil. My low oil light never went on and we did regular oil changes which still didnt matter. We were putting oil in it every few days until finally it wouldnt start anymore. I had it then towed to the Chevrolet dealership to have it fixed as it is my only means of transportation. They corrected the problem but refuse to take accountability for the excessive oil consumption resulting in a bill of over $2,200. They never fixed the low oil light, and we have found that now even though it had been fixed it is still using oil excessively so I am constantly checking it. I contacted Chevrolet to dispute the matter but they refuse to pay for the damage because it is out of warranty. I told them that I believe it to be a manufacturing defect as I have researched that many chevy Equinoxes have had similar issues resulting in engine damage, yet they still have refused to look into it and said to file a complaint with you hence this email. I am seeking a recall on the 2016 Equinox regarding excessive oil consumption and defective low oil light. This is a safety hazard and could cause an engine to die on a highway and possibly cause an accident. I would appreciate this being looked into and be kept informed on its status. Thank you.
I have a 2. 4 lt ecotec engine. My car is experiencing oil consumption issue. Every week to two weeks oil is almost completely gone from engine. Oil light does not come on. O ly warning sign there is an issue is the car starts knock and hesitating this usually happens on start up and when in idle. I just bought this car and now found this is a lawsuit regarding these engines that does not include my year but I am having the exact same issues.
2011 Equinox has excessive oil consumption and is getting worse. This vehicle has a recall that is vague which is to say it is a popular issue with no direct resolution.
I have had multiple issues with the vehicle in question every since I drove it off the lot. The first signs of trouble started when the car would cut off in the middle of driving in busy traffic. Supposedly the dealer fixed the issue, not sure if that was true because it continued as time went on. Secondly I have had so many oil changes since the purchase of this vehicle and there is record of 3/2019,05/2019,07/2019,(johnny londoff Chevrolet up until 05/2020),05/2020,10/2020,11/2020,02/2021. . . And counting. The vehicle has a very high oil consumption and is bringing about more issues within the vehicle. Lastly but not least the sensors and other things are being damaged in the process. At this current time I am having "reduced energy" issues and I just received oil change and I'm being told I needed to add oil, but how when I just got a oil change. I have reached out to the dealer whom sold me the vehicle, recalls dept, etc and I'm not being provided with assistance. Please assist with this ongoing matter. I have records.
Car had 90,000 miles when bought and with in two weeks it burned 4 qrts of oil have only had the car a month now just did a oil change a week ago and it's down 1. 5 qrts and only drove 700 miles on this oil change.
Engine failure due to excessive oil consumption. Timing chain failure causing major damage to engine, fuel pump failure, catalytic converter failure due to excessive oil consumption .
