Engine Burning Oil Problems of Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

The engine is burning oil and consuming oil with 4 quarts over 2,000 miles. The engine oil light is also not illuminating showing that the engine is low on oil. When this occurs it also causes the car to jump forward while stopped and the brake engaged.

Engine excessive oil consumption sounding like a diesel when running. Then while looking into this issue with the place we change our oil at, all of a sudden no check engine lights on at all and it stalls at an intersection to find out the timing chain broke and now the whole engine needs to be replaced.

Excessive oil consumption, oil engine light does not alert when oil is low. Just checked oil dipstick is bare and I have 3000 miles to go before next oil change. Low oil alert does not alert to the issue this has happened twice since October 2020. It was only by chance that this was found, no warning signs that the vehicle was low on oil. Last oil change toom to dealership for oil change and it was stated the oil level didn't register on dipstick.

It burning so much engine oil and running out from oil for under 900 miles and car is under 120000.

Excessive oil consumption and oil level low warning light does not function. Engine will tick and eventually stall out. Must add oil constantly or change the oil more frequently than recommended. No recall has issued and dealer wants thousands of dollars to fix. Basically stuck with a vehicle that you must add oil to every time you fill up with gas.

Engine is burning excessive oil consumption. Per mechanic this has affected timing chain, valves, pistons for which there was a recall. I do not recall receiving a notice of this recall. Mechanic said there was no/very little oil when I took to him to check what was causing vehicle to run ruff and sound ruff. He said parts were caked with oil. Mechanic suggested to take to dealer for recall kit repair.

Severe oil consumption I'm adding oil constantly.

I've owned this vehicle for a year and a half now. Countless times I've had oil leaking, increased oil consumption, and frequent oil changes. This past time has been a month since my last oil change, and when getting to work this morning I noted sounds coming from the engine, and checked the oil to find no oil left. One month, and it consumed 5 quarts of oil. When driving and coming to a stop, there is a noticeable hitch, as well as when accelerating up a hill, along with a slight knock in the engine when oil runs out.

Oil consumption had to do repairs. Tear down and replacement of pistons and rings. Motor was knocking and siezing.

2013 chevy Equinox, 2. 4l 4. 128k miles, massive oil consumption issue. Once a week, engine lifters chatter, and oil needs to be added. This time car died, and garage says call the dealership, they dont want to touch it for under $7k. Is there any action I have to correct this??.

I bought my 2013 chevy Equinox in July of 2019, about a month after buying it my husband checked the oil and the oil wasnt even on the dipstick. After that we kept an eye on it and every week we have to put at least a quart of oil in the vehicle. We have brought it to our shop and have determined that there is excessive oil consumption at the 100,000 mile mark.

The timing chain snapped without any kind of warning causing extensive damage to the engine, I see recalls for this due to excessive oil consumption. I had the vehicle towed to Chevrolet and expected some type of assistance as there is only 68,000 miles on the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle at the ron westphal Chevrolet a salesman named robert ithier had sold us the vehicle introducing us to the former owner, we looked the vehicle over and had one of our mechanics check the vehicle and it seemed fine. Now that Chevrolet is not helping fix this problem we found out before we purchased the vehicle codes were cleared and an engine light was reset just before we purchased the vehicle. I feel cheated, robbed and conned from this dealership, I am still waiting for repairs to be performed.

Engine is burning excessive amounts of oil, with in a week it burned a minimum of a quart of oil (I drove about 500 miles). A week prior to 8/3/2020 the cam shaft positioning sensor failed due to no oil showing up on the dip stick, vehicle was bought on 7/13/2020 and had an oil change at 145,000 miles.

Having to continues put oil in the vehicle have had it check out. They said no signs of a leak. Do not smell any oil burning. Seems like a lot of people are having these same problems.

The make and model I own is now under a special recall for oil consumption. I've tried taking it to the dealer (michael Chevrolet of fresno) and they said that the issue was, �normal honey�. I then called GMC where I was given a specialist named �genevieve� who hasn't returned my multiple calls for help on getting the problem fixed. I have taken my car to a third party who has documented their is an oil consumption issue and have taken those results to the dealer and bar. Still GMC is not fixing the issue. My car runs extremely low on oil every 800-1000 miles. Please help!.

My 2011 chevy Equinox ran out of oil in between regular oil changes due to the oil consumption issue with the incorrect sized piston rings. This escalated quickly and destroyed my timing chain which destroyed my engine.

Windshield wipers failed twice in the last six months, most recent repair was June 20, 2020, both during a rain event. Replaced plastic ball joints twice, failed today July 8, 2020. Second complaint, excessive oil consumption, 3 quarts low and never set a check engine light, this has happened 3 times, vehicle has 98k miles.

Excessive oil consumption. I have to add oil every week and check frequently so that I do not run out of oil when oil is low there is no safety feature that lets you know.

The 2. 4l ecotec engine in chevy terain and Equinox from 2010-2013 has a known issue with the piston rings which causes extreme oil consumption which damages the rest of the engine. Instead of issuing a nationwide recall of these faulty engines, they pushed it over to the nhtsb to issue the recall. They expect owners of these vehicles to pay thousands of dollars in repairs for their known faulty engine. Chevrolet/gm was sued over this by vehicle owners to get reimbursed for their expenses and extended their warranty to 120,000 miles, but vehicle owners weren't notified. They have no plans or way to notify owners who are not the original owners, used car dealers, or people who purchase these vehicles from private sale.

The first year I owned this vehicle, the oil consumption was normal. After the first year, it went through oil like crazy. I get oil changes every 3,000 miles, and it was near dry when I would bring it back in. My mechanic began telling me to stop in after about 1000-1500 miles to get it topped off. Which was done, but then I began having chugging happen. I was told this happened because of the engine's oil consumption and would continue to get worse. It definitely got worse until the motor died. Now I have to rebuild a motor or scrap the car. My Equinox suffers from the oil consumption defect which causes the vehicle to consume oil at an usually high rate. Although several features of the vehicles� engines contribute to the oil consumption defect, the primary cause is faulty piston rings. This is a common problem with these vehicles and their was even a lawsuit that was recently settled. I however do not qualify for the free repair because I purchased the vehicle later may 16, 2019. I believe this problem should be a recall since gm is aware of the faulty engineering that went into the manufacturing of this vehicle.

My eco-tec engine burns oil. I have had the engine worked on twice for the same repair resulting in over $3,000 paid out of pocket. I have my oil changed every 3000 miles or less. I also have to add 2-3 quarts of oil on a weekly basis. Additionally, now my vehicle is experiencing a fuel issue where I'm now burning fuel.

A couple of days ago I started experiencing issues with vehicle. At speeds over 60 the steering wheel would shake and when coming to a stop the car would do a rocking motion. Today on the highway the car was driving fine than randomly a light popped on that said low oil consumption turn off engine and the car began excessively smoking from under hood. I pulled over and checked I the oil and it was empty added 4 quarts it was still empty looked under car and oil had leaked everywhere. No prior warning lights or check oil or low oil pressure lights were on. I get proper oil changes when due. A couple of moths back I was having several electrical issues with the vehicle as well were the lights on the dash would pop on and off air and radio would turn itself on and off, doors locking and unlocking etc. And took it to a certified chevy dealer to have it checked and have the issue fixed and these issues were months after I had the transmission replaced after it fails months after purchasing g the car.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated the vehicle was using an excessive amount of oil. The vehicle was taken to john jones auto group corydon 1735 gardner ln NW, corydon, in 47112, (812) 722-4146) where an oil consumption test was performed and it was determined that the vehicle used 2 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles driven. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. I had my oil changed at car x , was told there were metal shavings in my oil, I took this vehicle too mauer chev in inver grove heights,mn , they said no there wasnt, I said it burns 1-2 quarts every 1000 miles, mileage was at 119,958, I asked about oil consumption, they did not inform me this vehicle was on recall for oil consumption ! they said there was nothing they could do it was running fine without performing the oil consumtion test , on a recalled vehicle still under 120,000 miles and under the 7 years and 6 month recal by 1 month! how do I procede ? at 126,000 miles the cam shaft sensors failed and the flex pipe cracked because of this consumption recall ! what do I do at this point.

Engine needed to be replaced due to excessive oil burning and subsequent metal fragments. Car was not included in notice of excessive oil consumption from chevy nor was it included in recent class action suit. Oil changes were performed as required. Owner was never informed of excessive oil consumption issue. Low oil warning light never came on. Owner was stalled on busy road while heading to repair shop to find out why the car was chugging. This stall became a safety issue for owner and other cars on the road. Cost of repair was $7793. 44. Chevrolet corporation refused to assist with cost.

This car is internally burning excessive amounts of oil in between oil changes. I have no external oil leaks. I am added at minimum 5 quarts between oil changes, other parts are begining to foul because of this issues, the oil light does not even come on to let me know if it low on oil. I am a windowed woman and this is not right. This needs to be fixed. I do what I am suppose to do and take very good care of this car, however this is out of my control and apparently is a huge issues. Wish I would have known this, I would never have purchased it to begin with. Chevy needs to make this right!.

Excessive oil consumption starting at between 30-40k miles. Sometime in about 2016 or 2017. Started receiving some information about some excessive oil problems but that there was still a pending classaction suit in progress and that I didn't need to do anything because my vehicle was involved. Took the vehicle to a dealer on 4/4/20 and was told that an extended "special coverage" warranty had expired on 9/20/2019. I explained that I have been adding up to 5 quarts of oil between oil changes at 3,500 miles. Was told to do an oil consumption test which was completed on September 2, 2020 to verify that 4. 5 qts of oil were added over 2,955 miles of operation. Gm now refuses to cover the repair because the "special coverage" timeframe that I was never notified about (120k miles or 9/20/2019, whichever is first) has apparently ended and the vehicle had less than 60,000 miles on it at the time the extended coverage ended. I've been receiving litigation information about a suit and claims for reimbursement for expenses into early 2020, but nothing about how to get the problem fixed if I have never previously filed any claims. I have not kept receipts of every time I added oil, I just check the oil periodically when refilling gas and add as necessary. I just want gm to honor the extended coverage and do the repair on the piston assembly. The original factory installed piston assembly has been updated with a newer part to apparently fix the oil consumption issue which tells me that there was a defect in the original factory installed parts and that this is not a problem based on improper care or lack of maintenance by the owner.

Bought the car used 8 months ago with 55k miles. I have driven it 20k miles, and it burns oil, with the oil light not being illuminated, yet the computer tells me I have a higher % of oil life left. Timing chain is going out, I had to replace the battery, and the stabilitrak system turns off. When starting the vehicle everything appears fine, but between 0-20mph with awd on the break system seems to be failing; then when stabilitrak is turned off the vehicle performs normal. I feel very unsafe driving my car. Most of these issues occured while the vehicle was in motion.

Burning oil fast. Just changed oil and have driven it less than 3,000 miles and is a quart low. Not the first time it's done this. Checked oil Saturday went out of town about 3 hours one way got back home and the oil was a quart low. No oil spots beneath the car noticed at this time.

I received contact about faulty parts that affect the rear main seal eventually damaging and blowing it out. The only thing is I was contacted 6 months ago, over 6 years of ownership saying they would recall and replace/repair this. The only thing is my car was disqualified for having over 120k in mileage and I was told I should consider myself lucky it still works. I was driving to my job and had parked my car. When I started my car and started driving it was chugging and I smelled something burning. I pulled over and called my boyfriend to bring oil as the car always has burned oil. It had never done this before. I get it home and plan to take it in the next day. When I wake up and check my car, all of the oil was on my driveway. The sensors never showed anything and I still had 30% oil life and was monitoring. If it weren't for it smelling like something burning, I would have had a seized engine. This is now a $1500 repair that was supposed to have been recalled 3 years ago according to the mechanic.

Engine burns through oil at an alarming rate and oil light does not indicate low or no oil exist. Last oil change was Nov. 21, 2019 and all oil is nearly depleted after less than 2,000 miles of driving in under 3 months. Recall issued for other chevy 2013 Equinox vehicles. VIN lookup tool states this specific car is not included even though the same problem exist.

I was driving down the road with my husband, three small children and unborn child when my Equinox shut off I'm the middle of me driving and white smoke appeared from under the hood. It would start but as soon as I put it into gear the engine would cut off. Finally the engine just completely stopped cutting on. My husband, a police officer and a good samaritan were able to push the chevy off the road into the ditch safely. The chevy then had to be towed to a car shop to get looked at. This vehicle cut off in the middle of me driving it!!! with children in the back. Then engine blew a hole through it. Less than 200,000 miles on it with brand new spark plugs and a fresh oil change. Certain models of chevy have an engine defect which is internally in the engine. Your vehicle will burn oil with no oil light coming on to let you know. There's no leak coming from anywhere. The engine just drinks it all up within a few days and then will blow up if you're not knowledgeable about vehicles. I was on a busy road when all of this happened. We could have been seriously injured if it wasn't for us going less than the speed limit.

Burns oil excessively, 1 quart per 10 days. No leaks . Costly repairs, and maintenance.
