1 Diesel Engine problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 02/28/2020

It started making a loud noise like a diesel engine and it will just cut off for no reason. I keep up all my maintenance it has low mileage. It was in motion when it cut off and I almost hit an 18 wheeler.

2 Diesel Engine problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

This 2019 Equinox is 1. 6l diesel engine. I bought it brand new. I have been to the service 5 times with a problem message "engine power is reduced". When this happens, the vehicle cannot run over 15mph. Every time this happens, I am on a freeway and all of a sudden the vehicle slows down and I cannot get it to run over 15mph. Very dangerous and big safety issue because in most case this happened, I semi truck is behind me running at freeway speed limit, honking at me to get out of the way and I am nervously trying to find an emergency lane to stop. When I am on the fast lane, it is difficult to find an emergency quickly. . Read more...

3 Diesel Engine problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

In February 2015 the throttle body was replaced/repaired due to reduced engine power and stalling while driving. Although no longer under warranty, Chevrolet picked up the repair cost. Since the repair, there has been hesitation in acceleration. More recently there has been loud engine noise (sounds lile a diesel engine), rough idling at a stop & hesitation when turning off the vehicle. It sounds and feels like the engine is going to fall out. The check engine light has come on 2x. I will be scheduling service.

4 Diesel Engine problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

Bought 2011 Equinox on may 14,2011, on June 6,2011 with only 1675 miles returned vehicle to dealership due to making noise upon starting. Best I can make out on work order: code 314 diagnostic scan &r&I&r starter & reposition & torque bolts. Returned on sept 1, 2011 for same problem. Told there was a recall and had to reprogram engine control module. Was better for awhile, but kept getting worse till it sounded like a diesel engine starting. Just figured this was maybe normal and we would have to just live with it. Final took back to another dealership on 8-2-12. Replaced water pump and balance shaft timing chain, tensioner, crank shaft balancer bolt and cam shaft actuator bolts. Engine light came on 8-18-12, tech said had a leak in vac. Hose. Returned vehicle on 9-7-12 for diesel sounding noise again. Parts ordered to be put on 9-10-or 9-11-12. Don't' think this will fix problem, but it is what gm has recommended to do. Also had issue with speaker in frnt passenger door. Had to take vehicle 4 different trips for them to determine where static noise was from. So loud at times it was difficult to hear radio. Finally replaced speaker and has worked fine since. Also have noticed when stopped and start to accelerate there would be a hesitation. Thought it was just not having foot on pedal good, but after reading about stalling issues-wonder if this is what is happening. Really considering trading this vehicle in-but wonder if we would get true value of car once they see what all has been done and problems. Isn't there some compensation gm can give to owners. Would never recommend this vehicle to anyone.
