The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while taking the vehicle for a smog emissions inspection, the vehicle failed the inspection due to an engine-related failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine control module (ecm) required recalibration. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
