Our 2015 chevy Equinox has just over 78,000 miles on it. My wife was driving it and said it was running rough and making a noise. She got it home and we had it towed to a shop. We were told that due to a faulty pvc pipe in or near the intake had frozen up causing pressure to build up and it blew our rear main seal, snapped the timing chain and breaking of teeth. The mechanic said this was an issue with these vehicles and that a special bulletin had been issued but not on our year. We ended up paying just shy of 1900. 00 to fix this. We were also told that because the design flaw hadn't been fixed that this could happen repeatedly. We still owe a lot of money on this car and we can't afford to pay this kind of bill again. We would like to be reimbursed.

I was driving my car the other day and it started making a strange noise and a was a half a mile from my home and pulled in the drive way to have my husband check my car and oil was poring out of my region on the driveway. No indicator lights went on to tell me there was a problem either. Took it to a service garage and they told me it would cost me $4,500 to fix it. I serviced my car on the regular so I should of had no problems.
I bought my 2013 Equinox in 2012. It now has about 68,000 miles. Oil changes are on time and regular. Recently I made a 7 hour round trip. Towards the end of the trip the car began to idle very rough and the engine sounded louder than normal. At the end of the trip the check engine light came on. The next day I took it for an oil change. I thought it might be the oil filter. After the oil change, it seemed to drive smooth for one day then the check engine came on again. The almost immediately a message that said reduced engine power. the next time I drove it was to take it to the dealership for a diagnosis. On the way there the car stalled at a busy stop light. After a few minutes I was able to get it started again and made it the maybe 1000 feet to the dealer. The first diagnosis they gave me was a time chain issue ($1800) then they called me a day later and said pistons/piston seals were also an issue and now it would be ($2500). I started to do some research and I found the lawsuits about the piston issues and oil consumption. It sounds exactly like the problem w/my car. I can detail regular oil changes and never had an oil light come on but I see where other people describe how the screen that gives the oil % is not really monitoring the cars actual oil use. I relied heavily on this screen, always checking it to see if I needed oil. I would like info on how to access the special warranty to pay for these repairs.
Vehicle had been stalling at least every other day for the past couple of months when stepping on the gas to go. It has turned off on several occasions when coming to a stop or red light at the point I step on the gas. Additionally, the vehicles engine sounds forced and trembles on it own on a daily basis, even when in park mode.

My 2012 Equinox stopped running, it was making noise as I drove it and once I stopped and cut it off it never started again. On June 24,2020, it was running rough and I noticed the check engine light on. I checked the oil and there was none in the engine, there were no leakes observed, I could not figure out how all of the oil disappeared, there was no oil in the drive way at all. I went to the store got some, put a couple of quarts in, the next day I called the dealership for an appointment. Once there, I asked about the noise and they said everything was okay, they changed the oil, said nothing of the engine light and sent me on my way. The light went off the next day. , July 27, 2020 I took it to my auto mechanic and he suggested I call gm because the car has been known to have issues like that and I should be able to get assistance with the repair, it only has 74,000 miles and I had only had it 1y and 3 m. Gm suggested that I allow them to tow it to the dealership, so they sent a tow truck and delivered it to serpentini Chevrolet the same day. I was told by customer service that they have had issues with chevy Equinox engines burning oil and damaging engines. I also saw on line a class action suit that was one by the consumers for engine issues in regards to chevy Equinox model 2010-2013 vehicles. At this point the engine is damaged and I do not have the truck in my possession. These vehicles are faulty, unreliable and unsafe there needs to be a recall.
Goes through oil like no tomorrow. I just got an oil change last month. It's at 73% oil life and my engine is starting to make noise from no oil. I am completely out of oil. My engine is loud when you turn it on and you can hear the gears hitting each other from no oil. I feel like one of these days I'll turn on my car and my engine blows up. I also did some research and I see they've been sued for this problem and nothing was ever done. I got my car looked at and there is no oil leaks. It's also damage my engine from going through so much oil in such a short period of time.

I own a 2014 Equinox it has 103,000. The code was for a position actuator sensor ( timing variable solenoid). I replaced it, simple fix. Engine light still on. Within the next couple months I realize my vehicle idles on the lower side. My vehicle almost stalled out while in a drive thru one day. Once you put some gas to it seems ok. Problem goes away for a while. Then finally one day I go to leave work and my stabilitrak message pops up and takes many times to start. My lights act weird. Car get stuck turning over and went to limp mode. I finally get it to come out of this somehow and make my long commute home, but I can tell the power in my car is lacking. No messages just a engine light with the same codes. Next day my car starts fine and like nothing is wrong. Car stalls out 3 times while driving out of a parking lot. Barely get it home. Then acts like nothing happens. Stalls out while in mcdonald drive thru with my kids. Will not start, had to push it to a parking spot. After 20 minutes I get it to start, but I have no rpms and it feels like the electrical system in my car is not running properly. I make it to my moms, which is very close to mcdonald. Park it, pick it up that night. Starts up like nothing is wrong. I decide to take it to a mechanic. First visit was a $33 part that cost me $400 worth of labor. They diagnosed my car with their computer, none of my sensors are bad. Engine light states other wise. Car does all the symptoms again along with loud engine noise. Turns out my timing chain is bad (1,614 repair). 24 hrs later. Won't start for me, finally get it on. Engine light on, idle issues so on. As of 2 days after that. Engine light goes off like nothing happened. Mechanic stated I had no damage to motor and all looks good. I believe there is a electrical issues and timing chain issues with this 2. 4l engine. A safety hazard and need recalled.
The vehicle was at a stop sign. Turning right, it started to stall and then finally took off. This was the first instance of something potentially wrong. When we made it to work, it appeared to be ok. When we started it, exhaust appeared to come from under the hood and exhaust fumes were entering the cabin of the vehicle. To make it home safely, we lowered the windows. When we started it, there is noticeably a change in engine noise, the smell of burning oil, and oil covers the underside of the vehicle. We searched online to see what may be the cause, and we found a class-action lawsuit in florida which describes our vehicle's issues almost perfectly. Oil consumption is high, it's not safe to drive, exhaust entering the cabin is deadly, and the change of the engine sound.
While driving on the highway, the rear engine seal blew out and within a few minutes (unknowingly my engine drained completely of oil) and by the time I was able to get over 2 lanes the damage had been done snapping connecting rod and damaging an entire cylinder. There was no warning of this issue and I fear that if my wife had been driving with my two children under 4 that it could have been a huge safety concern. I was able to recognize the slight noise at first that progressively got louder, but could see my wife ignoring it long enough to cause an issue. This is extremely scary to me and at 111k this should not happen. Gm offered financial assistance for the repair at less than a 1/3 of the cost and could not get any explanation why it is different from bulletin 14882 that describes the exact issue that my car had.
On three different occasions, I had an Equinox serviced for weird engine sounds. Each time, I was told it was a normal sound. The first time occurred a month after I purchased the vehicle. The second time, my vehicle shut off at a stop light and turned on service engine/ service stabilitrak. The third time, the company I brought it to said that my vehicle was having oil consumption and recommended having my piston rings replaced. I've called general motors many times and each time I was told that I would have to pay to replace these parts myself. I just hit a year after I bought this vehicle. I parked it seven months after purchasing it due to the noise and oil comsumption as recommend. My oil was barely on the dip stop the last time it was brought it. I had an oil change not even three weeks before this occurred. General motors should be ashamed of making this vehicle. My car only has 153,000 miles on it.
Back on Jan 14, 2019 oil was changed as part of routine at a service station. Operator suggested we take it in to the dealers as part of an oil consumption recall he heard about, within 200 miles we took it into a dealership for the test to be performed and they refused to do it due to a rear main seal leak that no one mentioned earlier or at the oil change place. They wouldn't repair it as part of the gm service bulletin 14882 (which is what caused the issue) had to pay $1700 just to get the seal fixed so they could perform the test on an issue gm already was aware of! vehicle finally failed the consumption test and had the recall done at another dealership. Within 3 weeks of being fixed multiple electronic issues have popped up like the stabilitrak disabling, engine power decrease warning, stalling when in idle, burnt smell, air bag lights, and above avg engine noises and has shut down on the highway. Taking it back to the dealer who fixed it to see what can be done. This is my wife's daily driver and takes our kids everywhere so it's imperative that people read this an really think hard before buying this gm product if you've got a family. Current;y under 91,000 miles but it seems like oil changes became more frequent around 75,000 without warning of oil being low.
Tl-the contactg owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact while getting an oil change from an individual mechanic was informed that the vehicle had no oil and the mechanic mentioned a TSB had come out from the manufacturer for that issue. The contact had received past oil changes just from the dealer rk Chevrolet 502 n delsea dr, vineland, NJ 08360 (856) 469-4061 for the past four years. The dealer knew about the TSB but said the vehicle was not part of getting the extended warranty offered by the tbs. The condition of the vehicle now is that it has only half power and has a pinging sound and rattling. The vehicle was burning an excessive amount of oil between the intervals of oil changes. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer back in 02/06/19 and that was suppossed to have fixed the issue at that time however, the issue has recurred now. The manufacturer stated the there was no recall. The failure mileage was 90,000. Tf.
Balance chain pins wear, allowing the chain to stretch. Cause engine noise. I took the car in for a brake job and said the engine is making noises it shouldn't be making. The advisor said that's nomal for that car to make that noise. It's the same recall for the 2010-2011 Equinox on the 2. 4l engine. (laf). That year 2010-2011 have a special coverage adjustmentthe 2014 Equinox has the same problems and you need to look into this because people paying for a no fix.

Service stabilitrak, reduced engine power, slapping noise in steering as well as major vibration.
While driving down the road the engine started making strange sounds and then the engine warning lights came on and the engine quit operating. After pulling out the engine oil dip stick, no oil was indicated. On the rear deck lid there was a oily film.
There was a recall for major oil consumption so I took it to the dealer and they checked, said everything was good. . . Bs!! I changed oil in oct, completely dry in Dec! I have had to replace intake/exhaust position actuators twice now. Fluttering sound in the engine when cranked. Now I have (4) different codes 3 of which pertain to fuel pressure reg/system rail and the other once again for the position actuator. And it ran fine before being parked in garage for only a couple hours, once started it shook and vibrated violently.
Engine light came on followed by small lurching evrytime vehicle came to a stop. Lurching progressed to large movement. Car to mechanic computer indicated a sensor issue. Had this replaced. 1 week later everything repeated mechanic changes other sensor. Car fine for 2 months although engine light continues to turn off and on, computer continues to say sensor. Engine light goes off again immediately followed by significant return to lurching and then car stalls out . New terrible engine noise. Waiting for mechanic to have availability.
I have my oil changed regularly and this last time I wasn't into the oil change more then 1000 miles and it started making a noise and stalling out took it in and there was no oil in it so they changed it for me but it continues to stall then my engine light came on had it tested and it doesn't show any issues. The stalling happens when I'm at a stop or just slowing down and also backing up.
When my vehicle idols at a stop light, it starts to shake as if it wants to cut off. When I turn my wheel the inside makes a screeching sound.
High oil consumption and loud unknown noise from engine. The engine sounds like it is going to come apart when started and during acceleration. The mileage on the car is " 91860 ". The dealer performed an oil consumption report last may. Said that it was within the requirements set by Chevrolet. Engine noise has increased. I do not feel that it is safe to drive on interstate highways.
Excessive engine oil consumption, engine makes noise, need to change oil every 2000 miles, need to check oil level every week. Not safe to drive.

Consumes too much oil. Camshaft issues. The car has issues properly switching gears in automatic and there is a delay or shaking/jutter at times. Even when the car is idle is has a strange sound to it. Car also has issue with accelerating. I will push the gas down and it doesn't switch gears fast enough. This happens all the time in everyday city and rural driving.
Returned to hubler chevy for strange noise at a cold start. Rough idle. Already a bulletin for balancing chain. Balance chain replaced per extended warranty. Received a call that the timing chain needs replaced $198. Not on a bulletin. Also, now doing engine oil consumption test because oil was low as well as engine coolant was low. After doing research at home, thousands of 2. 4l engines for Equinox are having to pay for bad timing chain when they have balancing chain replaced. Most of these complaints are coming at the 30,000 mile mark on the odometer. It seems to me that nhsta should look into why the timing chain issue is not addressed when replacing the balancing chain? if the timing chain stretches or breaks it will blow up the engine (safety issue). My vehicle just turned 29,0000 miles. Numerous other complaints involve all the nhsta bulletins and ultimately, these people are receiving new replacement engines. If this is the case why won't gm issue a recall and replace these engines with the new improved 2013-2014 2. 4l engines. My time is valuable and each repair will cost me a days worth of pay. If these problems are now showing up. Let's end games and replace the engine now. This is very wide spread problem, gm needs to own it and replace the entire engine instead of all these band aid fixes.
Number one excessive oil started at about 55,000 miles. Number two excessive engine noise from timing chain and cam seizures. Number three transmission failure 52,000 miles. Number 4 wiper transmission failure at approximately 48000 miles number 5 check engine light on due to faulty cam actuators.
Oil consumption, rough idle, bad ticking engine sounds like a diesel truck, stalled.
For the second time since I have owned the car new major engine work was undertaken. 1st was a timing chain wear issue causing engine noise at about 50k miles. Next was a near total engine rebuild due to excess oil consumption where rings, bearings, pistons etc at gm warranty cost. All except for cam actuators for which I was charged $391. I picked up the car and all seemed fine. Within 100 miles of picking up the car the engine light came on and a p0420 engine code was logged. I was told by the dealer when I immediately returned it to see what had been done wrong that I needed a new catalytic converter, oxygen sensors and new cam actuators. (I just paid $391 to have them replaced less than a week ago!!!) the dealer and gm customer service refused to accept that the catalytic converter failure was due to the warranty covered excess oil consumption or possibly not following the detailed block cleaning, and rinsing procedure described in the TSB for the engine rebuild. I took the complaint to gm corporate customer service and was told that they contacted the dealer and they stated I was told I needed a new converter and I refused service so I have no recourse but contact my aftermarket warranty my dealer pushed on me who has already refused to pay for any failures because gm in their opinion has admitted fault by acknowledging they have a known oil consumption issue. So I have no idea if the original repair was done correctly, do I really need cam actuators or were they never replaced in the first place? I would get rid of the vehicle if I was not so upside down due to the wasted money I let the dealer push on the extended warranty that has been proved worthless.
On September 25, 2014, I was headed home from work traveling 45 miles per hour when the message stabilitraking off appeared on the dashboard. It was a clear and sunny day. As I continued to drive, my vehicle began to loose power and proceeded to slow down as I was in route. I immediately pulled to the side of the road and dashboard message was flashing stabilitraking off, service traction control, service stabilitraking, engine power is reduced then the engine shutdown and would not turnover. It would not make a sound. I called onstar service for towing. They did a diagnostic check at my request and the following codes were given: p0502, p0513, p0606 and p0700. After 45 minutes of waiting beside the road, I attempted to start the vehicle again and it cranked. However, still flashing the same messages above; it would not pick speed. The engine light never went off. I was only able to travel about 25 miles per hour and made it home safely. I had to have a towing company tow it from my yard to the dealer. I picked it up two days later from the dealer. They were unable to duplicate the problems, could find nothing wrong, cleared all codes and I picked up my vehicles and went home with no answers.

Since the purchase of my chevy Equinox I have had engine trouble related to the oil system. For a period of time I was initially given the run around in regards to a solution. The engine noise made it clear to me that my car needed some type of repair. My persistence enabled me to finally have the problem solved. I cannot be more specific about that event, but keeping that incident in mind leads to the next. I later began to have problems with oil consumption (several months down the road). During periods in between oil changes I began to put more and more oil in my car. This didn't make since my travel was local and not much. ( I have been out of work since last June 2013). That time I decided or I will say insisted the dealer look further into the problem when it was three weeks after an oil change and it was down almost five quarts of oil. I got a lecher about the damage it would have caused. To the point of the problem with all this. I read other letters of complaints on the website in regard to other engine or oil related issues on the chevy Equinox. It seems more than apparent that this should be looked into prior to accident, injury or death. Each problem or complaint also had a number of how many of each were recorded. I would hope that it wouldn't take for me to injure myself or be just another tragic death related to the big car industries. Trouble shooters get paid big money to prevent such travesties. I would then expect that these glitches would be worked out to the benefit of the small people paying big money for vehicles that help them make it on the journey to a bigger a better way of life. I hope someone sitting in his or her corporate office does more than just brush this aside and post it with the other letter of complaint.
First off, sometimes my vehicle when in park acts like it may turn off, but doesn't. Can hear/feel the vibrations like its about to. Secondly, the main reason I'm on this page, the a/c. It just stopped woking out of the blue and making a noise. I take it in and told the condesnor has a leak and needs replaced as well as the condenser which is making the noise. Wow, quoted from one place $1,084 the other place I only got a quote on the condenser of $424. . No telling what the compressor will be. After looking online and seeing so many exquinox vehicles having ac issues I hoped there was a recall on the parts, unfortunately not the case. 2011 and need a new condenser and compressor for a/c wow!! car shaking like its gonna die. . . Wow!! this vehicle was purchased about a year and half ago. . And having to sink in over $1000 for these replacements! no telling what the engine vibration during idle is from, going to have that checked out soon. Oh and one other thing, when a tire is low, it appears to shows up backwards on the screen.
Took a road trip and the engine was making noise half way through. Checked oil dipstick when we arrived home and no oil registered on dipstick! the 2010 chevy Equinox is a lemon!! stay away.
Car made noise and engine started to stop. Pulled off to side of freeway, turned off key and car burst into flames. Car is a total loss, due to the fire damage.
My engine rattles and makes a loud fluttering sound accompanied with the misfiring and hesitation with acceleration. I previously wrote a complaint and forgot to mention it.
I have had many problems with my 2011 chevy Equinox that started occurring about a year after I purchased it. The main concerns are the engine noise and how rough it runs, feeling as though I am being rear-ended in traffic (when moving forward from a complete stop it lurches forward, giving the feeling of being hit), rough start up (sounds like an old car at times) and the car stutters when accelerating (almost feels like it wants to stall out). I do not feel safe in this car now and have read that many others are experiencing the same issues. I have taken it four times giving them the same description each time at which they state that they cannot replicate these issues. They keep my car for hours and do nothing to it. I am a single mom so I can't leave my car without it causing major issues for me as I have to take my son to and from school. I received a letter from gm stating that there is an issue with the fuel pump and engine balance chain and describes what my vehicle is doing now-I believe I have engine damage and I am worried that I will end up breaking down on the side of the road at some point or worse stall out and end up in an accident! in addition to the engine problems there is a problem with the defroster, it just doesn't clear the windows fast enough, on going problems with the stereo (makes a static, distorted sound with the usb port) and the drivers side squeaks because it rubs up against the middle console. It is very frustrating because the problems are intermittent. I am hoping that enough people complain about this safety issues with regard to the engine and cause gm to deal with it appropriately! we should not feel afraid that our new car will break down on us, especially with our children in the vehicles!.
Vehicle has had inordinate transmission noise since around 10k mileage. While vehicle was idling, went into incredibly rough idle, vehicle shaking with warning message about stabilitrack error and vehicle shut down. While this initially happened while idling, it also happened numerous times at speeds from 20-50 mph as reported by spouse. After multiple trips to the dealer for unacceptable engine noise, engine shutting off and cel illumination (seperate issue that has also never been remedied), an issue with the timing chain and fuel pump was alluded to and that a "fix" for this would be available in late spring of 2013. Fuel pump and timing chain replaced at no charge that summer, but similar symptoms continued. Loud, rough idle, intermittent vehicle shutdowns. Eventually took to another dealer who stated it was a throttle body issue and that this somehow was not covered by powertrain warranty even though this "used" to be part of the transmission, it somehow no longer is on newer models. After a $500+ repair, issue hasn't reoccurred in last 3 months (so far), but cel still illuminates during wet conditions (which both dealers cannot seem to fix). I feel this vehicle has been a lemon since about 10k miles and continues to be so. We only own chevy's but between this vehicle and our apparently dangerous '05 cobalt, we can no longer afford to put our trust in chevy and will need to seek out other vehicle manufacturers. It is apparent chevy only cares about the money we can funnel to them for buying american. That will stop with the next vehicle purchase this summer when we turn in the cobalt (for probably next to nothing due to its new safety reputation). I mention this info as we really want to put our faith, trust and money into an american car coportation like chevy and have been overly patient with them. No longer. . . Others need to know about these issues.
