On March 27, 2021 engine randomly started having issues while on the highway. Car would not accelerate and reduced engine power notification came on. Even backing out of the driveway the car shut off and had to push down hard on gas to get it to back up because it wouldn't accelerate back. When I was coming out of my neighborhood the car would not accelerate from a stopped position when turning onto the main street and the cars had to come to a complete stop behind me. Driving was rough, was feeling like it was going to breakdown. I got the car fixed April 1-2, 2021. The engine light is back on April 4, 2021.

Catalytic converter issue, high pressure fuel pump, car shakes, balking while on idle or stop on red light, heavy chain rolling noise. Spent more than $3k so far but still comes with different problems every now and then. Engine light is always on and bunch of different codes show up while checking. Cruise control doesn't work. Wiper blades don't clear properly. Problem list can go on and on. Car shuts off by itself and it happened so many times. Engine power was reduced by itself and couldn't go more than 20 miles/hour on a highway with family inside the car.

Was driving home from work and the engine turned off without warning. I was at a red light when it shut down. Upon further research, there was a lawsuit against general motors about the engine. After contacting them they said I missed the deadline when we never received the claim form in the first place. The car has been consuming a lot of oil. It felt like I was changing the oil in the engine too frequently.

While driving the car just shut off in middle of road without warning. It would not restart and had to push it off the street as to not get hit.
Car shuts off on its own, I recently took it to get it diagnosed and didn't show anything was wrong with the vehicle. No engine light is on, nothing seems out of the ordinary, just that its starting to shut off on its own out of no where and looses power. I will be at a stop light and I would accelerate but as I accelerate the car shuts off. Also, its happed on the freeway during traffic times, when its heavy in traffic and requires me to stop for a while and then accelerate it either looses power or shuts off.
It only had 42000 miles on it and even before it sounded funny. We had it hooked to diagnostic and it said the intake and exhaust cam shaft actuator solenoids needed to be replaced or faulty. Google it online it comes up as a recall for my year of 2011 chevy equinix. But when I told them at chevy service center they were addiment that only certain vins and thats what they go by. But I told them how would you know which ones are affected if your not told by consumers. Online and on different sites come up that some have problems and have recalls . Well om informing them that theres an issue but since its not on their data base or my VIN they will not do anything. The car when driving shuts off sometimes. Or when I start it and begin to drive it shuts off.
Car shuts off while driving. Engine light came on and when slowing down or the car has stopped in traffic on the freeway or at a red light the engine shuts off. Took the car to the shop and unable to determine the issue. Will return it to the shop again for a more thorough inspection. This happened multiple times while driving to work.

Driving down the highway going about 70 miles per hour over a bridge. My vehicle started loosing power. About 2 miles after the bridge the engine light came on and the engine shut off. Never came back on. I was towed to a shop where the diagnosis was engine code p228d, previous to that in January of this year another engine code p0302 was captured and in July of this year yet another engine code p0420 captured as well, via a tracking system thru my insurance.
Car just shuts off when on free way doing 70 or at stop light then message center says stability track control then it may sit for 5 min and then restart or may require a jump start put in new battery and had alternator tested very unsafe automobile.

On 9/11/18 I was driving thru an intersection and and van pulled in front of me casuing me to brake and my car shut off. Steering wheel locked so I couldn't pull off the road. It took 2 tries to re-start my car and when I put it in drive and pressed on the gas it started sputtering. This is not the first time the car has shut off as I was driving. Previously when I took it to the dealer that said that no codes showed up so there was nothing they could do.
Vehicle shut off and instantly started again simultaneously while vehicle was stopped at a drive through at a restaurant.

My 2014 chevy Equinox began to stall whenever I stopped at traffic lights or stop signs mostly when I was driving on a busy 45-50 mph road. It would sound like it was having trouble getting air so to speak, and to stay idle. It would sputter and then the engine shut off. It would start back up when I put it into park and turn the key in the ignition. This began to happen with more frequency. Upon reading many forums where people reported the same issue, I learned that the camshaft position actuator solenoid valve caused the problem on Equinox suvs produced from 2011 to 2014. The part was recalled for the 2011 models but not the 2014. The vehicle issue was resolved when my my son replace the solenoid valve. I think that gm should have recalled this part for the 2014 Equinox as it is the same part.

The cam shaft position sensor is defective. The vehicle shuts down when idle is low.
Passenger air bag alarm goes off when seat is empty and occasionally the passenger air bag turns off while an adult passenger is in the seat due to a faulty connector. This happens sporadically during all types of driving, idling or while parked. The concern that during an impact the faulty connector will cause the passenger side airbag to not deploy while a passenger is in the seat is highly worry some and even though chevy is aware of the condition, they won't recall or fix the issue. Timing chain failure can cause sudden unexpected engine shutoff while driving causing a loss of control of the vehicle and sudden stalling during acceleration and deceleration leading to possible collisions as the engine shuts off with no warning. Chevy is aware of the timing chain issues in their 2. 4l engines and yet hasn't issued a recall even though catrophic engine damage and probably loss of life due to loss of control collisions. Engine shutoff due to chain stretch or failure can occur as any time during driving or engine running conditions.

While driving to work (approx. 50 miles) the engine just stopped while making a left turn across traffic leaving me in a position of having to push it out of traffic on a major street to help avoid causing an accident/road closure delay. Just thankful this did not happen earlier in the commute on the interstate! after having it towed and speaking with 6 mechanics and 3 dealerships, we were told by every one of them that these engines are known for this problem and rebuilt engines are so backordered because of this problem, that we were looking at least 4-6 weeks minimum to try and replace it at a cost of $7600 out of pocket and still have 2 years to pay the car off before this even happened and there was no recall or gm assstance with this repair. . . Unbelievable! if this would have happened on the interstate or highway, it had potential for a major accident, because once the car shut off, the power steering and everything also went as well!.

Car shut off while driving, would not restart. Timing chain broke causing engine damage. Vehicle was at dealer in Nov and had timing chain checked. Dealer reported there to be no issues with timing chain.
Vehicle shuts off while in drive , loosing all power to throttle , power steering and all other components of vehicle. This has begun happening over the last three days after having the vehicle for only three months. The vehicle currently has 39,000 miles on it . Today while traveling 70 mph on the highway the car shut off causing me to have to fight the cars steering to safely bring it to a complete stop in the breakdown lane. I had to put the car into park remove the key from the ignition and then re insert key and re start the vehicle.
Purchased my 2011 chevy Equinox in March 2014 at 36,000 miles. At this moment I have 63,000 miles. Past couple months or so I have had many issues with my vehicle. There was a ticking for a period of time after parking and shutting off the vehicle, a rough/loud running of the engine, inconsistent times of knocking type sound, and a hesistant during accelerating and so rough. When we inquired about these things from the dealer we purchased from we were told that everything was 'normal' and that's what a chevy sounds like. Today I was driving up a 30 mph road and could not accelerate over 20 mph going straight up the road. There was a hesistation then it stopped in the middle of the road. I turned the ignition off. Waited a few seconds and it started back up. I drove fast home and turned onto my street and it started to slow down and not accelerate. It was still running but didnt go anywhere. I turned it off again for a few minutes. It started up I drove it into my driveway. The engine light came on and it shutoff. This appears to be a consistent problem in this type of vehicle from what I have now found and something that should not happen with only 63,000 miles on it. I do not drive long distance. Work, school and home. I am extremely frustrated with the entire situation. I have always bought chevy and this is the first major issue. They need a recall on this. Can someone help. I do not have a warranty anymore. Im a single mom of 2 and can not afford this. The crazy thing is. I received a notice in the mail about this issue a few months back. I chuckled and said not my car and threw it away now look at me.
July 10, 2015: I took my 2012 chevy Equinox lt (2. 4 l 4 cyl) to a chevy dealership in ky. The vehicle was at 100,505 miles and I wanted it checked before driving on vacation due to the high mileage, a rough idle and because it had recently shut off while backing out of a parking lot. A gm goodwrench multi-point vehicle inspection was performed. I was told the car showed no sign of any issues but I would need to purchase new tires before winter. By Dec 2015 the rough idle had gotten much worse, the vehicle was loud (almost sounding like a diesel), would jerk and felt like it may shut off any time I had to stop or drive slower speeds. Additionally, the car would "slip" as it was shifting gears so I took it back to the dealership on Dec 8, 2015. The car was at 115,720 miles. The transmission, #2 cylinder, spark plug and coil were replaced and a throttle body cleaning service was performed. Since then, the car has idled high revving to 4,000+rpm at times before it will shift into higher gears (particularly when driving 70+mph on the interstate). Downshifting to lower gears doesn't always go smooth either. The rough idle has returned and progressively gotten worse. The car almost shut off while backing out of a parking lot on Feb 13, 2016. Yesterday (Feb 15, 2016), the car shut off while I was driving! there were no lights illuminated prior to it shutting off. I coasted to the side of the road, re-started the car and finished the final (~3) miles to work. I had the car towed from work back to the dealership. The dealership said there was no oil on the dipstick (the oil life sensor showed ~25% life left on oil) and I was told the car was 2 qts low on oil. The car remains at the dealership as of today, Feb 16, 2016. . Read more...
I was recently in a vehicle accident. My vehicle shut off as I was driving and in route of a traffic light. As a result of my vehicle shutting off, I had no brakes and was therefore unable to prevent my vehicle from proceeding through a red light. I then hit a tow truck and was t boned. My vehicle was totaled as a result and myself and my 2 children were transported to our local emergency room due to injuries. Previous months I've had a issue with the vehicle shutting off while driving. All the gauges went down and the vehicles' engine was appeared to be shut off. I also have had the vehicles engine remain running after turning the vehicle off and removing the keys from my ignition. I would try turning it on and off several times to get the engine to eventually shut off and would have several failed attempts.

I was driving with my 7 year old son and 15 year old nephew on a 35 mph busy street when all of a sudden my vehicle started shaking and the steering wheel and brake paddle lock on me I couldn't move the luckily there was no car coming at the moment, and I was able to turn off the vehicle and turn it back up. After that I it started up again and nothing seem to be wrong until the engine light turn on and I continued on my way, all of a sudden my on the dash board it said stability check/lost engine power and all of a sudden the engine shut off on me. I couldn't move to from lanes to avoid causing an accident luckily the vehicles on back of me notice my vehicle slowing down and they where able to miss hitting my vehicle. I really do want something done to fix this issue because I could of cause an accident with that sudden stop and all because of the engine powering off. I believe something needs to be done a. S. A. P. Before on of all these other people putting their complains end up dead or causing a deadly accident. I sure don't want my family to be in danger in any type of way, especially not in a vehicle that I know is malfunctioning and feeling helpless because nothing is being done. I hope my complain helps even more to get this issue fix a. S. A. P.
On October 16, 2014, I went to the dealer to pickup my vehicle still with no answers to why the dashboard message is reading: stabilitraking off, service traction control, service stabilitraking and engine power is reduced. Then the engine shuts down. As I was pulling off the dealership lot, the engine light starting flashing rapidly, vehicle began to loose power, it was backfiring and smelled of a foul odor. The sales manager came outside to drive the vehicle and the vehicle continued to loose engine power. By the time he came back inside to speak with us, he stated that he could no longer turn the vehicle on. He stated that it would not turnover at all. I am now awaiting the findings and grateful to god that problem happened again on the dealer's lot and not in rush hour traffic.
On Tuesday, October 14, 2014, I was leaving work headed to my physical therapy appointment. It was a rainy day. While in route, a message appeared on the dashboard: stabilitraking off. I proceeded to turn right and get into the left turning lane heading to my appointment. Once, I got into the turning lane the dashboard message was flashing: stabilitraking off, service traction control, service stabilitraking and engine power is reduced. The vehicle shuts down. I attempted start the vehicle and it moved a few inches then shutdown. About a few minutes later, I attempted a second time to turn it on. Once again, it moved about a few more inches and shutdown. When I attempted a third time, the vehicle would not turn over. I called onstar for assistance, they contacted 911 because I was a dangerous intersection. They also contacted Chevrolet roadside assistance for towing. The police arrived and pushed my vehicle off to the side of the road to safety until the towing company arrived. The vehicle still would not start. About 25 to 30 minutes later my husband arrived and started the vehicle with not problem, but the same messages appeared. On Thursday, October 15, 2014, dealer contacted me and stated that my vehicle was ready for pickup and could not duplicate the problem nor read the gm codes. They cleared all codes and recommended that I take it to a Chevrolet dealer for a diagnostic.
Our 2006 Equinox has had our engine shut down on us several times between April 3rd thru sept. 4th of 2014. It has shut down twice while at a stop and about 4 times while driving. After 1-2 minutes, the car will start back up. It seems it could be dangerous if the car shuts down while driving 50-60 miles per hour and there is no where to pull over and a car behind you may not notice that your car has shut down and may not stop quick enough. At times, the brakes are hard to stop the car and the steering wheel is hard to turn when the engine shuts down.

Vehicle engine shuts off while driving. Has happened twice in one week at about 40 mph.
