Brake Disc Problems of Chevrolet Express

Chevrolet Express owners have reported 4 problems related to brake disc (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 03/07/2005

Brakes were making a "grumbling noise". Not the typical squeal or grinding noise associated with brakes. Went to the dealer and he said the front disc brakes were badly worn. Only 32,000 miles on the vehicle. Never, never have I ever had to replace brakes with such low mileage. Driving for 45 years and never had this happen. They fixed it, not under warranty, so I paid. Now, with a year on the new brake linings, they are making noise again. Very disturbing. The vehicle is used for work and is not abused, I am the only one that drives it. Driving vans for 30 years and this is very disappointing.

2 Brake Disc problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

Loss of braking effectiveness, on inspection discovered that oem front axle grease seals had failed. Failure had contaminated both left and right inner disc brake pads and inner side of both front rotors with axle grease. Reported to dealer service and asked that the failure be entered into the gm/chevy system for investigation and correction. Dealer service dept. Denied any other instances of this failure existed and declined to remedy seal failure or brake pad damage under warranty. Front brake pads and grease seals were replaced at owner expense.

3 Brake Disc problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Express

While driving front brakes would get too hot, causing extended stopping distance. Dealer has been notified. The passenger front side wheel speed sensor melted, the rotors showed many cracks in the surface, and the caliper had been replaced. The front wheel bearings showed signs of heat. The consumer requested to be informed about this problem.

I don't know if either problem is dangerous. I do know im worried to let my wife drive this vehicle with my children init. As far as the brakes are concerned, the Chevrolet service manager and Chevrolet tell me its normal for this to occur twice on a van with only 22,000miles?a fterfor this.
