1 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/11/2020

A few weeks ago I got a warning indicating the vehicle detection sensor was not functioning and then yesterday while stopped and in gear at a red light all the screens flickered and gauges when all over the place while throwing over 30 codes across the screen including anti-theft which locked me out of everything. I took the vehicle in immediately and they confirmed over 30 codes were thrown. Looks like a bad design on the sensors themselves allows corrosion over time especially in colder climates like mine.

18 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/16/2012

We have a 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS, and have had a couple incidents involving the vehicle anti theft system. The vehicle wouldn't start, and would display a security warning on the dash. Typically we had to wait about 10 - 15 minutes to try again, and the vehicle would start. I have looked online and have found many complaints about the anti theft failing on these vehicles not allowing them to start. Gm has not issued a voluntary recall, and even after the alleged issue has been fixed by a dealership, many owners have complained the issue still exists.

20 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

My car will not start due to an issue with the passkey/passlock system. It is a anti theft function installed on several of the gm models that when it fails to work it actually keeps the owner from using the vehicle. After going on line to research this issue I noticed that this was a very common and expensive problem to have. In addition to getting the system fixed many owners say that after about 3 or 4 months the problem comes back and have even died on them as they were driving. Some try to bypass this system and others attempt to have it fixed, but regardless of how they deal with it, I believe that it is the manufactures responsibility to address common propblems with the vehicles they sale; not to mention that Honda was having the same issue with their vehicles and issued a recall.

21 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/22/2011

As I've found from many other folks through the internet and in person, the passlock system in my 2001 Impala is faulty and dangerous! the best case scenario the engine won't start and when you come back 15 minutes later it starts just fine assuming you are in the comforts of your own living space. When on the road this is a severe problem!! also, my wife recently was driving through and intersection and the vehicle just quit! same issue. Wait and it starts!!! now in this case there wasn't and accident, but very easily could have been!! cars dying when making a left turn is not my idea of a safe vehicle!!! since that episode, we've had the vehicle looked at, but no one seems to be able to find the probelem. After some research, I'm now 100% sure it's the passlock anti-theft system. Once again, this very morning we went to drop kids at daycare and the car would not start. . . . . . . . . . . . Wait 15 minutes and it starts just fine. There is and obvious problem with the anti-theft system on these vehicles and they need to be addressed!!!.

27 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/25/2009

I have a 2002 chevy Impala and quite often the car will not start and displays the security light but after leaving the key in the on position and pressing the lock button on the vehicle the car will start 10 minutes later. I had to take my daughter to the er because of a bad cut on her finger which was bleeding profusely and we got in the car and it wouldn't start. After pressing the lock button and leaving the key in the on position for 15 minutes it finally started. It does this all the time at least 10 times per week. Thank god my kids weren't dying or something or thank heavens it wasn't an emergency situation when the car wouldn't start. But I have looked at numerous websites and it seems that the 2002 chevy Impalas have this problem and it needs to be recalled the owners should not have to pay for the parts!!.

28 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/13/2009

The passlock prevents the car from starting. This happens approx. 4 or 5 times a month. You put the key in to start and the car does not start. You have to wait 10 minutes usually, sometimes 20 sometimes 30. Very dangerous if you have an emergency and need to start you car right away instead of waiting to start. You may die or something of that nature. Very scary when you are in the car alone and it won't start. Will never by a gm car again!.

29 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/24/2009

2005 chevy Impala often times the vehicle will not start. When this happens the security light on the dash blinks, and, after I wait about 10 minutes, it will start. Upon searching the internet for a solution it is obvious that gm knows there are problems with their "pass-lock" anti theft system but will not acknowledge it or repair it for anyone. My mechanic replaced the battery and found no other problems. Suggests I take it to gm dealer.

30 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

32 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/20/2009

I own a 2002 Chevrolet Impala that has only 38,000 miles on it. In the last ten days this car has cost me $1,100. 00. The majority of this cost was because of the passlock system. I had no choice but to get this repaired because the car could have stopped running at any time. It appears from what I have read recently that this auto and others like it should have been recalled long ago because of these security systems that seem to go out quite frequently. I cannot give an accurate incident date since this has been happening on and off for over two months - I have finally been able to borrow the money to get it fixed.

33 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

2003 chevy Impala. "security" warning light on dash, then random wont-start episode. Wait 15 minutes and it starts. No confidence that gm dealerships know what's wrong, or will permanently fix it.

34 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/08/2009

2004 chevy Impala. Security light goes on and then car won't start. I have to wait about 20 mins. To start. I have taken it to two different dealers over the past 3 years and spent plenty of money but still having problems. Research online has revealed this is a long known problem. When will car manufacturers be forced to 'fess up and fix this? no wonder the big three are going under.

35 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

While my complaint may not be 'safety' related, it is certainly an issue. I have 2004 chevy Impala that is suffering from a common and known passlock problem. How can chevy be allowed to produce faulty products? if this is going on how do I know that the safety features on my car will work? I am so disturbed by this.
