1 Battery problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/17/2014

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the anto-theft security and the battery warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the engine stalled. The vehicle was able to restart after multiple attempts. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign: 14v400000 (electrical system) and stated that the part was not available. The dealer was uncertain of when the part would become available to service the vehicle under the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they were also uncertain when the part would become available. The contact stated that the recall notice stated that parts were expected to become available on October 1st of 2014 but the manufacturer informed that not all dealers were receiving parts. The approximate failure mileage was 235,000.

2 Battery problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/31/2012

I was traveling on a highway near to my home, and for about a month now the vehicle has come up with an error stating "reduced engine power". Suddenly, the vehicle simply stalled itself, coming up with a message that stated "starting disabled/service throttle". I was traveling uphill at 40mph, now with no power brakes, no power steering, and the engine completely shut off and unable to restart. Luckily I was able to pull over and disconnect the battery and reconnect it to restart it. What if this had happened on a highway on or off ramp? or on a corner? or with a vehicle traveling behind me? I believe any vehicle that will just randomly turn itself off due to a part that has had hundreds of complaints that I've just read online is unsafe to be driven on America's highways. I read online that this was a prevalent problem with these vehicles, and I hope I get injured because of it so I can sue gm.

3 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/28/2012

I have been having recent trouble with my car not starting. I try to start it and nothing happens. I get a security light that flashes. I am using the original key. I will sometimes be able to start with within 15 minutes later, but sometimes I am stuck somewhere for hours before it will start again. It is not the battery because I just recently got a new one thinking that could be the problem. I read online that it has something to do with a faulty pass securitly lock issue with flawed gm system. I also read that paying to try the fix the problem is worthless because it will usually just reoccur so there seems to be no way to fix this without continiuing to waste my hard earned money. This is both a nuisace and has caused me many troubles being late to importatnt meetings etc. I once had to take my granny to the hospital and was not about to because my car wouldnt start. Please do what you can to get this thing recalled as I think it is unfair to all these people. I love to buy american but this is ridiculous and makes me not want to but another american made car. Thanks.

4 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

I purchased a used 2001 Impala with a little over 145k miles on it in November 2010. It drove fine for about a month until the check engine light came on. No problem. Eventually it had cooling issues and we had to replace the water pump. It is understandable to replace such parts on a used vehicle. The real issues began in the spring whenever my car started to display security warnings, battery warnings, and service vehicle warnings for no reason. I could find no mechanic or electrician who could diagnose the problem. Eventually, the problems became worse: the blinkers would not work, my odometer, temperature, and fuel gauge all quit working. My air-conditioner would no longer cool. The radio "locked". And whenever I applied the brakes, an electronic "pop" was audible. Chevy dealerships are left with the exhaustible task of dealing with these issues--when they are not their fault, but the manufacturers. A quick search online will reveal that Impalas are plagued with electrical problems from the body control module to faulty amps in the trunk. If these problems are so widespread, why hasn't there been an effort by the manufacturer to help find a solution? it's questions like these that make me wonder why our government bailed out a company that can't stand behind their product--or even correct a very serious and potentially dangerous problem in their vehicles.

7 Battery problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle was parked and shut off. He attempted to unlock the vehicle using the electronic fob. The vehicle would not unlock using the fob so he had to manually unlock the vehicle. Upon opening the door he noticed black smoke within the vehicle and a flame ignited in the center of the dashboard. He closed the door and the flame extinguished itself. The fire department appeared on the scene and he was informed there was an electrical fire so the battery was disconnected. The police did not appear on the scene but a fire report was filed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where it was in the process of being examined for the cause of failure. The failure and current mileages were 28,000.

8 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

03 Impala that has had the service vehicle soon light come on. Was just in for oil change, light is not always on. Drive into work, car is flawless. Drive home from work, now the light is on and all interior lights flicker and there is a noise in the glove box of a tick tick tick. Stop at garage and they cannot diagnose the problem as no codes appear. Have to take out the interior fuse when I park so that battery is not drained, shop says I will need to replace the bcm. Car handles well, but why am I reading about all of the same thing happening to other gm customers of Impala's between 2000-2005? recall?.

9 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

Gm starting electrical error. 2001 chevy Impala. The security thinks the car is being stolen. And the only easy fix is disconnect the battery. So to all the thieves take mine. This problem occurs on a regular basis. Ie three to five times a day, depending on how many times I use the vehicle. Currently 132k miles. Car runs great otherwise. Why doesn't gm recall this error????.

10 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/17/2010

My 2002 Impala will randomly not start. The message center flashes security, battery and service engine soon. I have to unhook and reconnect the battery to get the car to start. I do not want to drive it alone, as I live in a big city and do not want to be driving and the car malfunction. I have read numerous accounts of this happening to people with 2002 Impalas. I have asthma and one day I started to have an attack. Husband was going to drive me to hospital and my car decides not to start. I could have died waiting for him to reconnect the battery. I paid gm for a reliable car but got a car that will start only when it wants to. This is unacceptable. It's messed up that I can't drive my car for fear of it not starting and being mugged or raped while trying to unhook/rehook the battery. Gm should be held responsible for this. They don't want to though because they make too much money fixing something that they screwed up. I will never buy a gm again. Toyota and Honda from here on out!!!.

11 Battery problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/06/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the battery would continuously fail and need recharging. The contact took the vehicle to a local auto parts store where they advised that there was nothing wrong with the battery. The contact also stated that the rear-defroster was inoperable. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer was unable to duplicate or locate a failure within the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000.

12 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/17/2009

I was driving my 2003 chevy Impala and tried to signal a lane change and the flashers would not work for either direction. There was not any accident, but the situation was very aggravating. The car also has a history of oil seepage and it has only 70,000 miles on it. We bought the car 4 years ago at a used car dealer, and I change the oil myself every 3000 miles. The car is hard staring at times, and I had put a new battery in it 2 years ago due to the trouble starting.

13 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/05/2009

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Impala. I have had my car since February of 2009 and it is a terrific car with the exception of the car cuts off in the middle of traffic, on the highway and anywhere it likes. I could be driving down the road and the car just cuts off. The battery light comes one and I turn the car switch off and back on and it starts up again. I have taken it to several places and no one seems to know what the problem is. This is very dangerous for a person to be driving and this happen to them. I have gone on the 2001 Chevrolet Impala website for recalls, defects, and other issues and there are sooo many Impala's with this same issue. I have three small children and this is not safe but it is my only source of transportation.

14 Battery problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/17/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that he has to routinely replace the battery. On one occasion, when the battery dropped below 8 volts, it locked the transmission and prevented the vehicle from shifting into gear. The dealer and manufacturer did not assist. The failure and current mileages were 8,700. Updated 05/21/09 the consumer stated he had a garmin gps plugged in most of the time which drained the battery, but it shouldn't result in dead cells. The consumer stated he had serious doubts about the quality of the battery. Updated 05/27/09.

15 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

The bcm (body control module) caused my 01 Impala to do some crazy things. It started with turn signals intermittently working. My wife and I were in several near accidents because other drivers could not tell what we were doing. Then it progressed to each time that I applied the breaks the headlights would flash from high beam to low beam at least a dozen times. It distracted the drivers in front of me when driving at night. On many occasions it caused the entire dash instrumentation to fail with the exception of the speedometer. The message center would give me false indications of required maintenance and low tire pressure. Twice it locked the car out on "security" the vehicle would also intermittently start. After about 10minutes the vehicle typically started backup again. Once, the vehicle left the headlights on after vehicle was turned off. I had to disconnect the battery to keep it fromdraining the battery. Again, after about 10 minutes it would allow something to reset and all would be fine. After searching on the internet for similar problems on the make and model I took it toa gm dealer leading them towards the bcm. I didn't want to pay an exuberant amount of money forthem to chase an "electrical ghost". After $500 they replaced the bcm and the vehicle ran perfect for about 2 1/2 months and now the turn signals are intermittent once again.

16 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/18/2009

The pass lock security light would come on while driving then it would not allow me to restart the car. This happen at first 2 to 3 times a month at first then the last three of four months it takes place about 3 to for times a day. First the security pass lock would come on then the car dash boards ant every thing else would work but I just could not crack the car. Then the pass lock security would make everything the car turn off the car would not make a sound. Then it started running my battery down. Then it would run down the battery every other day. This is a danger because it has left me stranded late a night and also during the day. I have missed work due to this defect. I hope chevy will do a recall. I see that I am not the only consumer with this problem. Even thou no death or accident took place due to this defect this is still a serious matter due to the fact that this problem has cost me wages and rest. I a life threatening emergency this car could cost a life all because I might not be able to get it to start.

17 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/29/2009

I own a 2001 chevy Impala. Basically since the moment I bought it, it would randomly flash the "security" light then not start. I got several explanations about why (security fob, neutral switch, battery) and took it in several times for repairs. Because they couldn't replicate the problem, they said, well, don't worry, it's just an intermittent problem. I guess that's easy to say when you're not stuck on the side of the road with a non-starting car. . . Now I find out that chevy installed a passlock system which is supposed to keep your car from being stolen, but that since it was installed in their new cars, it causes this problem. They refuse to recall the cars and fix the security system problems, instead forcing their customers to waste time and money on something that they should fix.

18 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

2001 chevorlet/impala purchased new, current miles 51,000. Intermittant loss of directionals. * complete loss of directionals and emergency signals. Failed recent car inspection. Additional failures include: complete brake loss at 38,000. Resulting in replacement of entire brake system. Firestone tire, west roxbury, MA stated on documents that "rotors were thinned down to size of sheet of paper &/or completely gone. " two tire blowouts at 35,000, also replaced by above repair shop, with 4 new tires. Battery leak with corrosion to extent of need of connection cables to be rebuilt for attachment. Battery replaced with new connections at 40,000 by sears auto body in dedham, MA. Passengar side wiper fixed and replaced after failure. Worked for 3 months and has failed again, has not at present been replaced/repaired. Care of car was updated and maintained according to all requirements/recommendations by manufacturer. No history of accidents. This including, oil changes, wiper blade changes, tire rotations with evey other oil change, which was done every 3 monts, etc. Brake inspection and pads changed on car 1 year before complete failure. Brake loss was thankfully uneventful only due to time of night and low traffic, only able to stop car with gliding to stop. Then towed to service station. On average my present yearly milage is probably less than 3000. I am the only driver/operator to this car and althogh mentioned #1 owner, my father originally purchased the car, (howard chevorlet, west roxbury, MA) but did not drive it. I currently am the title holder. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any recommendations that could help me. I feel that there is major failure that beyond my control and is dangerous to myself, others and most important to me, my 4 y/o daughter. Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you (someone) soon. Teresa corrigan.

19 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

Noticed failure of air bags, door locks, radio, a/c, security lockout/ no start battery drained. I am ase certified and located the battery drain to the bcm (body control module). After replacing it, it was necessary to take it to the dealer to have it reprogrammed. At this time all functions (but the door locks) work. Of course the dealer rep says that the problem was pre existing as all the other functions work. I will now start looking into the cause of the door lock failure. Here's why I'm writing. These problems are huge safety issues not to mention the expense and extreme inconvenience and "down" time. As you drive, the car has no air bags, the door locks don't work and with my 4 door car I can't even lock my car to park it outside of an unlocked garage. I want this to known as the most unsafe vehicle I have ever driven.

20 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/16/2008

Security light comes on, lights flash on and off (especially dangerous at night) clicking noise, radio locks, battery light comes on, air bag light comes on. Clicking noise happens whether the car is on or not. Cannot unlock or lock car with the report. I've seen hundreds of complaints on the blogs about this. There is a bulletin from gm #04-08-47-003 so obviously they know about this problem. This a very dangerous situation.

21 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/28/2008

On 01/22/08 while driving, the "security" light appeared in the message center on the instrument panel. When I stopped the car, turned it off, and restarted, all was fine and the light remained off. The following day, after driving approximately 10 miles, the "security" light appeared. This has happened a total of four times, most recently on 01/27/08. When the light appeared, the headlights dimmed for a moment. When I stopped the car, the lights on the radio were extremely dim. On 01/28/08, I went to start the car and the battery appeared to be dead. An attempt to jump off the car was unsuccessful. This seems to be related to the very common "passlock" problems on other gm products.

22 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/06/2008

The speedometer of my 2004 chevy Impala goes out. While driving down the road it will start climbing even though my speed has not changed. I may be going 40 mph but the speedometer reads 120 mph! the gas gauge will also read wrong and my temp gauge just plain doesn't work. This has been going on for over 2 years now. Gm says it's not a recall issue. It can be corrected for awhile if we disconnect and reconnect the battery, but the fix is short lived. We have not yet had it repaired, the cost is over $400. We plan on having it fixed soon. I constantly feel unsafe driving this car when the speedometer malfunctions. I feel gm should be responsible for the cost of repair.

23 Battery problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/15/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Impala lt. The contact stated that while parked, the contact attempted to turn the ignition on but it would not respond. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but had not been diagnosed. The contact stated that the battery had been replaced three different times but the failure continued. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

24 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/13/2007

Initially started with the engine not turning over. Full battery power, put car in n to start, nothing. Put car in emergency park to start and it did. This happened repeatedly, with no warning. Now the car starts every time. The problem now is interior/exterior lights flash like strobe lights every time I start my car till the time I turn it off, so I can't drive at night. The "security" light pass lock issue interferes with the a/c compressor and will blow hot air. A constant clicking from the relays in the passenger side fuse box. Why is it many gm dealerships across the country cannot diagnose this when consumers have brought in the vehicle for assessment. Check out the website of carcomplaints. Com for more of the same issue. Fellow Impala owners; lets file class action law suit again gm to get this resolved. But sadly it will take one death or more for any action from gm. "the american way is lets do something after the fact and not be proactive to prevent".

25 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/26/2006

The following matter is a potential disaster waiting to occur. I have informed gm by mail and telephone. I have went to the chevy dealer only to come out with my key five hand held transmitter to stop working. I have sent letters to the dealership that sold me the car. T the security system shuts down the vehicle at random times automatically. Continuous problems: security light on message center continues to flash security service vehicle soon, - battery the security system automatically, continuously attempts to shut down my car this security system also unlocks my trunk the handheld transmitter does not work after replacing the battery after the chevy dealer checked the problem I have to unlock the doors manually the lights flash and the message on the radio panel says locked I cannot use my car, it will not start - engine light comes on - all lights go out while driving , this faulty "pass lock theft deterrent" system, automatically comes on and shuts my car down when I pull over to the side of the road and turn the engine off. It will not turn on again, only the check engine light comes on. I had the car inspected today at a chevy dealership and the results was," replace the control module at $325. 00, first, then I can program the key five transmitter. " replaced transmitter battery and car battery I conclude that gm has the monopoly on vehicle parts and service all in the name of technology and cost the consumer a tremendous amount of repairs on top of the cost for the vehicle. Consumers should not have to pay for a service that they cannot repair at any shop in town. For instance, I can take my transmission issues to almost any transmission shop, however, I cannot take my manufacturer built- in security system to any shop. They will not touch it just because it is manufacturer built. I want the laws changed.

26 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

2001 chevy Impala engine, radiator and battery replaced. Consumer had the vehicle fixed at her own expense because gm would not help her out. She stated that the transmission went 3 months after the engine. The power switch and side mirror was replaced.

27 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/30/2006

Driving when all warning lights came on, then the battery light stayed on for a short period. It did not effect the car performance but it did reset the clock on the radio as if the battery had been disconnected. Another time the traction control and abs brake lights flashed and the radio pulsed. The security light remained on as I was moving forward out of a driveway the vehicle stalled but immediately restarted and all the lights cleared.

28 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/16/2006

: the contact stated that the vehicle caught on fire without warning while was parked in the driveway overnight. The fire originated from the engine compartment and battery area, as flames were clearly present. The fire department extinguished the fire and determined the fire was electrical in nature. The police were on the scene and a report was taken. The vehicle was totaled due to the extreme fire damage. The manufacturer was alerted.

29 Battery problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

My 2001 Chevrolet Impala started this problem about a month ago. Obviously, it is annoying, but it concerns me mostly due to the safety aspect. I believe I have discovered the problem by my research on the internet as well as finding the same problem with the 2001 pontiac grand am on the internet from other owners. My trips to multiple dealerships and repair shops have proved worthless. The car will fail to start at times. The security light comes on. After 10 to 15 minutes it will start and run great. It appears to be a passlock security problem that will be very costly to repair. I believe gm should issue a recall so the consumer does not have to foot the bill to have this repaired. The car cranks over fine and the battery is new, but it sounds like no fuel getting to where it is supposed to go. Please research and I am sure you will find that other Impala owners have the same problem. I did not see a recall out on this problem yet.

30 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/06/2005

The ac delco battery post came off of the battery. The clamp and cable were tight, the post was eaten in two from the inside.

31 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/06/2005

On oct 6th 2005, while driving the department issued 2004 Chevrolet Impala, police patrol squad car, I noticed a unfamiluar very strong foul odor when I would turn on the heater. Unknown to me at the time, but after I sufferred initially an inhalation injury which nearly killed me by sufficating me causing my blood pressure to escalate thereby causing me to suffer duel anyursm' of the upper thoracic vein and the abdominal vein. I was flown via flight-for-life helicopter to a trauma center, hospitalized in intensive care, left incapacited me for four months and without an income. I am now left with internal scar tissue on my aorta vein. My police supervisor visited me in intensive care in the hospital and informed me that the mechanic from the dealership which services our fleet of leased vehicle, inspection results indicated that the electrical system was overcharging the battery and as a result the battery began to overheat giving off battery acid fumes which explained the foul odor.

32 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/17/2005

I have had all kinds of problems with my 2005 chevy Impala. When I go to start my car it doesn't start, my lights dem out, there is a popping noise in the steering wheel, there is a loud noise when I turn it to the right, when I turn the a/c on there is a loud noise, and there is a rattle in the dash and glove box. My battery had to be replaced already. I hate my car cause I have had nothing but problems with it. I will never own a chevy as long as I live.

33 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/17/2005

A 2003 Chevrolet Impala with 25,500 miles, the battery corroded through at the positive terminal. Acid leaked from the battery down to the bottom of the car. In talking to the manager at sears, where I had the battery replaced, 8 out of 10 ac delco batteries that they replace, fail this way. In talking to Chevrolet service managers, they see this quite often. I was told that ac delco now has batteries made off shore. How long before critical systems are affected?.

34 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/05/2005

My car was running one day when I was in a store and I came out and got in and it was dinging and lights were flashing radio didn't work fan was not as strong as usual. And once in awhile I won't even have lights unless I hold in the brights switch. But that was just the start it got more frequent that this would happen then, it wouln't start I would try for hours to get it to start I would have to disconnect the battery and wait and then even after doing this it might not start. And then just driving down the road it will ding and flash raid shuts off says "locked" what what is this now. So I will stop shut off wont start, finally starts then none of the gauges work or radio or even the a/c. I have lost two jobs because of my car not starting and being late for work or not being able to make it cause it wont start. Now I have taken it to about ten dealer ships , well every place tells me same thing there is nothing wrong with your car. May 30,2007 was the worst time with my car, it was raining really hard, my car started to act up like usual my a/c wouldn't work it was really humid and about 85 degrees and I got to a town and shut off the car and disconnected the battery as usual also and nothing happen and this went on for 2 hours and still nothing happened the worst part about this is I had my 6 month old daughter with me, my fiance is out of town we are an hour from home and my friend has a flat tire and my parents on vacation I had no ride or any body to call and I couldn't call a tow service because I only had $10. 00 to my name I had to bundle my daughter up in her blanket and start walking home, I walked for about 20mins before any one stopped to pick us up. I am so sick and tired of this happening and would like this problem to be resolved but I don't think it should have to be at my expense when it obviously is not just happening to me! please please help me !! I just don't know what to do!!! akl.
