Failure Date: 07/19/2010

2009 Chevrolet Impala, bought in July of 2010 with 18,000 miles on it. When I stop to park the car, my foot is on the brake, I put the gear shift into park and when I take my foot off the brake the car will roll forward 8 to 10 inches. It also does it in reverse but only a 3-4 inches. Happens about 1 time in 5. Took the car to the dealer, it didn't happen to them and was told that was normal.

11 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/16/2010

In June 2010 I was driving on the interstate 90 west toward denver CO. The terrain was steep and winding and due to heavy traffic the pace was fast. The traffic ahead of me began slowing and I began to slow by steady light pressure on the brake pedal. My brakes heated up fast and I found myself without breaks for a short period of time due to the rotors feeling as though they were warped and the front end started vibrating. I down shifted to 3rd. Gear but that was not enough to slow me enough so I downshifted to 2nd and this still was not enough to maintain a downhill speed to keep from having to use the brakes. Finally I shifted to !st gear to maintain the safe speed that I needed. The problem seems to be that the car freewheels so excellent that even on lower grades as experienced in the carolinas in October when we were there the car is almost impossible to gear down so as not to overheat the brakes when trying to maintain posted speeds in mountainous country. I discussed this with solomon Chevrolet in dothan where I get the car serviced and the dealer from whom I purchased the car. They had no suggestions but assured me there was nothing they could do dealership wise to help me. I feel it is a very dangerous situation which does not surface unless you drive in the mountains.

12 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/22/2010

May 9th, I parked my car in a school parking lot . Upon trying to move the car to go home I could not get it to go in to gear. I called for a tow truck, while waiting for a tow a friend of mine helped me remove the center console to see if we could locate the issue. We ended up having to manually depress a button on the side of the shifting system to get the car to go into gear. Once out of park the shifter moved freely between r/n/d. On 5-22-2010, while traveling approximately 15-20mph on my home street in my neighborhood the left front (driver) tie rod snapped in half sending my car up over the sidewalk curb and into the grass/trees. The car jerked hard left and was surging foward and hard to control and kept jerking pulling and surging for approx 75feet until I was able to gain some control and get mycar back onto my street and into my driveway. It is undrivable and am waiting on a tow to the local chevy dealership to adress these issues.

13 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/17/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated the vehicle seemed to hesitate randomly when accelerating from a stop light. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the problem generated from the transmission and referred to it as a "phantom shift". The dealer stated they would have to pull the transmission apart to make the repair. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage 90,000.

14 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

My 2006 chevy Impala ss was recalled for a power steering oil line leak. When it was on the lift, it was discovered that the oil line on the transmission also leaked. The line leaked where the rubber line was crimped onto a metal line. The dealer stated that they had replaced several of these. It was not covered by warranty. Since there was no oil dripping onto my concrete driveway, I assume that it leaks under pressure. This is a defective part.

18 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

I have a 2006 chevy Impala and there seems to be a problem with the transmission. I have taken the car to the dealer several time and have aven had the transmission flushed but am still having the car jerk off at a stop light. The dealer can never find a problem and it seems to be getting worse. I am part of an Chevrolet family and we have a total of 8 Impala and we all seem to be experiencing the same problem. Also the power steering belts and pulley always make a hissing sond when the eteering wheel is turned and have had this looked at and have had the hose replace several times only to have the problem to reappear. My 2004 Chevrolet Impalas transmission jumps into gear making the car go forward in an unsafe manner. I contacted gm and they told me tough luck. The car only has 65,000 miles on it. I can't believe they won't fix this defective transmission. I went to car complaints dot com and found hundreds of similar complaints.

20 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/26/2009

At random times, starting from a stop, my 2007 chevy Impala ltz car will slowly engage 1st gear and then suddenly engage with a strong jerk. On several occasions this occurred when pulling out into traffic, starting at a traffic light on a wet road, and pulling up slight inclined driveway into garage. Several of these times I've lost control briefly from movement of the steering wheel, due to the unexpected power of the transmission engaging and jerking. The dealer has made multiple unsuccessful attempts at repairs throughout 2008 until now. From reading all the owner discussions at edmunds. Com I see this is a common problem and a safety issue for me.

24 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/01/2008

I purchased my 02 Impala late 07 used, it had approx. 30k miles. About 60k miles it started to hard shift, then started overheating. It would only hard shift when put into reverse, 1st and 2nd every now and then and as the time has gone on its doing it more and more, and shifting even harder, I called a dealership and they said tough. I am very unhappy with this problem, I have a 2 year old in my car with me at all times and this issue is not safe. Other than this I love the car. Its great on gas and all around wonderful, I am just very unhappy with the transmission. I took it to aamco and they said its going to need to be replaced soon, hard shift and long shift. And they said that if I keep driving it I will be doing major harm to the tranny. I cant afford this and it seems as if I am not the only one with this problem. I know 1 other person that has an 04 Impala and they have the same problem.

25 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/04/2008

The vehicle was turned off, in park, with the parking brake on, in the driveway at an incline. The vehicle rolled backwards down the driveway, and hit the fence which brought it to a stop. There was damage to the driver side door and driver side rear of vehicle. The car was taken to dealer, and the event explained. The dealer made repair to door at my cost. The dealer made no attempt to determine the cause. I called again to service and spoke to someone, who stated that the parking brake is not supposed to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards. No investigation was offered.

26 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/03/2008

When I am coming from a stop and beginning to accelerate at moderate rate between 5-25 miles my car jerks very hard. The feeling is sometimes to the point it feels as if I have been hit from behind by another car. The feeling is very forceful and it feels as if it begins in under the rear seats and the rear tires. It happens sometimes maybe once or twice a day and other times everytime I press the gas upon coming out of a complete stop and sometimes it does this forceful jerk/thump/shrug consecutively as I come out of the complete stop and then as I accelerate a little more. Have taken it to two certified gm service centers on 3 occasions and told them the problem. And after the last visit the problem has gotten worse. I am concerned as what to do. And the problem is progressively getting worse. It happens daily and on most occasions everytime I stop.

30 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/04/2007

I am a police officer and have had several occasions while on traffic stops, that my assigned 2006 Impala has rolled backwards after I had gotten out of the car to approach a traffic violator; I had to jump back in and put it back in park. . On 10/ 04/07 this car almost cost me my life. I blocked an entrance ramp and when I got out of the car I stood by the open driver door. The car jumped into gear and backed over me. I was drug backwards and could not free myselfas I was being helplessly dragged under my car. When the car went into the median it dug my body into the dirt. I was able to roll from underneath the car. I then jumped back in and stopped the car from crossing the expressway. I have been on the streets as a beat officer for over 21 years and have never had anything like this happen. I spoke with another officer and he also has had the same problem while on traffic stops. I was advised by fleet management that there has been one other incident reported. My patrol car was towed on oct 8 and later I was advised by fleet management that gm reps looked at the car and found nothing wrong. Fleet management personnel refuse to give me any information as for a contact person with gm. Note -as of 10/19/07 they still have the car under lock and key. I sustained road rash, bruising, cervical strain, and a possible fracture in my back. I have contacted my local fraternal order of police president and he has been gathering information as to several other officers that have had their assigned 2006 Impala go out of gear and strike objects. In addition they had been charged with the accidents and points assessed. Per my fop president an investigation is being done to remove those officers points and diciplinary action per my unfortunate incident. My concern now is for the safety of the citizens on a national level, while these chevy Impalas are being used for public safety.

31 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala

As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The dealer stated that the failure was due to the design of the transmission in order to get better gas mileage. The manufacturer and dealer stated that there is nothing that could be done. The current mileage is 30,000 and failure mileage was 24,100.

32 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/22/2006

My vehicle has a problem with the transmission running rough, nearly stalling, and a 0742 code being activated. The car has 123,000 miles on it, so it is well out of warranty. A local transmission shop stated that the transmission needed to be rebuilt and quoted a price of $1400 to rebuild the transmission. I know that the car has a great deal of mileage on it, but I expect a little bit more for the money I paid for the car. After looking on this web site at the number of complaints and problems people are having with this car/transmission, and seeing that the 4t65e transmission is used in over 20 gm cars, when are you going to do something about gm taking advantage of this before it costs the american public thousands of dollars? anything you can do to push gm to make this problem right would be appreciated. If you cannot the only thing I will do is buy japanese.

2002 Impala breaking system and transmission are defective. The braking calipers on the back disc on the drivers side holds less than one inch of the disc.
