3 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/12/2017

June 2016 at 20k miles the car was erratically shifting at 30-35 mph and had a bad smell from the vents. I brought it to bonner Chevrolet who stated they were unable to replicate the issue and it may be due to running too high of an octane of fuel. The issue was not resolved. October 2016 I brought it back to the dealership for the same issue but I also noticed a slight ticking noise. A motor mount was changed but nothing was done about the shifting issue or bad smell. They stated because the car was not giving any codes, there was nothing else they could do about it. August 13 2017 at 25 or 30 mph while accelerating the car violently jerked my son and I forward. It also did this while downshifting. It continued to do this for 5 minutes until it began to no longer shift gears. The check engine light came on. It got to 4500rpm when I pulled over and shut the car off. I turned it back on after a few minutes but the issue continued. After another 5 minutes I got home. Monday 8/14 after arguing with chevy about towing my car since they didnt want to pick it up until 8/17, they agreed to pick it up that day 8/14. They also stated I would get a rental as long as it was determined the issue was a failure on behalf of chevy and not myself. Tuesday 8/15 came with no update from the dealsership. Wednesday morning 8/16 I called for an update and was informed the car had "internal engine failure". The service rep paul at valley Chevrolet refused to give me the code the car was giving for the internal engine failure. He refused to give me a rental because the car has over 36k miles. I informed him this is conflicting from what I was told on 8/14 by customer service. He said that if I did not want the car fixed, that he could leave my car outside. No call back yet from customer service as the rental and transmission replacement should be covered under the powertrain warantee.

7 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/05/2013

2007 Impala ss. Transmission hesitation occurs when going around 45-60 mph. Car semi-engages shifting, but then backs out, giving a chugging sensation while driving in that speed range. Higher speeds above 60 produces an incredible screech/whine noise. Currently in shop for transmission diagnostics. At 74,000 miles clutch was replaced due to it being cracked in half. Gm has either mad poor transmission engineering, using shotty parts, or this transmission is overly underrated for the power of the engine.

8 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

3. 4ltr 6cyl base model has had multiple defective sensations for some time now; among those are steering, transmission shifting from a standing stop, braking and odd noises. This vehicle's 5 y/o with only 20k mi, owned by elders & used locally, I've been driving them, & now I have this car. The left outter tie rod end had to be replaced with less than 20k mi. The steering still has an unstable feel when turning and make a metal to metal clinking noise from a defective (& as told by my mechanic & NHTSA reports, repeatedly reported) intermediate steering shaft. There should be a total recall because of this defective gm engineering problem. There is also a clinking noise occasionally when accelerating from a standing stop; can not tell if this defect is from the steering or something else like the engine mounts. Have not yet discovered this source. From a standing stop, the transmission will occasionally shift abruptly, either from a neutral disposition into 1st gear or from 1st to 2nd gear; the car lurches forward & the occupants heads are whipped back. This is similar to other reports of defective power train functionality I've read about with this model. Braking, when just starting a trip, has an improper feel and sometimes sounds like it's grinding, as if the brake pads or rotors are cracked/worn; this is a sensation I've had with vehicles having 100,000 miles, not on a car like this with only 20k miles. The center arm rest's pad support is flimsy/cheap plastic & has broken simply upon entering & shifting in the seat. I now see why so many police departments have discontinued the Impala's in favor of the charger's, crown vic's, taurus's and escapes. The us government should be severely fining gm for marketing this car. >>>this car needs to be recalled for many reasons<<<.

12 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/15/2007

I had just purchased this car in January of 2007 and I had noticed the transmission having issues when shifting gears. I first noticed this issue when backing out of my driveway and pulling the car into gear (drive) there would be a hesitation and a "clunk" noise. I was not sure what the issue was at first so I waited until it happened again and called the local chevy dealer to inspect it, as it was under warranty. The mechanic could not replicate the problem and told me there was no issue. The transmission had continued to have issues over the past 6-7 years. I also had the transmission act up when I would be driving in town from a stop up to highway speeds. At a full stop the car would hesitate to shift into gear almost causing multiple accidents. Many times I would need to down shift to first gear and up shift in order to get my vehicle going. In the past three years I have personally almost been in about 12 or more potential accident situations because of the transmission issue. I have read in many online forums that this is a serious and known issue with the chevy Impala transmission. This is an issue that needs to be researched and resolved with a recall campaign. From what I have researched online there is an issue with a module with the transmission. Please research this issue as I will be contacting gm as well over this faulty part/design of transmission.
