Brought car to cook's brakes in portland, or because of rotational noises heard when braking. Mechanic confirmed the electronic parking brake piston actuation arm is not fully retracted causing the brake pads to stay partially engaged and prematurely damage the brake pads and rotors. The vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety systems (fmvss) no. 135 light vehicle brake systems. There is a danger of excessive heat and fire.

Breaks squeal constantly they are new pads and breaks can find any problems have taken it to several auto shops and dealerships and as about any recall issues it seems as if they are locked up I can not take it through a drive through car wash it will not go up on the rollers the back brakes are like they have locked or I have the emergency brake on and in reverse is when they are dragging this is the first complaint that I have found that is the same issue as mine I have called Chevrolet they never mentioned anything about complaints or issues.
On June 30, 2015 I purchased a 2015 chevy Impala from red river chevy, bossier city, la 71111, (318) 549-7500. On July 17, 2015 the entire my link system which includes, onstar, gps, cd player and sirius xm radio quit working. Onstar could not locate my vehicle. On July 27, 2015 I took my car in to have the gps/my link fixed. They had to replace the whole module. Before the my link failure I kept hearing a roaring noise on the car and sometimes smelling a burning odor. I asked a local mechanic what that could be and he gave me the option of ball bearings, tires could make the noise and check the brakes. I looked on your website for any recalls on the Impala and there is a recall for the emergency brake pads sticking to the tire that could result in a fire. I asked the service department to fix the brakes recall. I was told there is no fix for the brakes, because they haven't received the software. I asked the owner to refund my money, because I was afraid to drive the car. He didn't want to do that and told me it was a used car. I could trade the car for another vehicle as a used car trade in. This dealership knew there was a safety risk with the brakes and no repair for the possible failure and still sold me this vehicle. They failed to disclose this information to me. If my car caught fire going down an interstate I would not know it until it was too late, plus I take my 83 yr old mother in the car; I may not have time to get her out. This dealership did not care about my safety in driving this car. I was given a Impala loaner while they repaired the gps and it also has a burning odor. General motors does not need to sell any cars with this issue until a fix is given. I could see if I had the car before a recall notice, but I bought it after the recall. This is pure negligence on general motors part and red river chevy. I want all of my money back.
Just bought a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, having bad problems with rear brakes, dragging really bad. Sometimes just 1 is dragging, no one seems to know what the problem is. Every service I talk to gives me a 1500-3000 dollar estimate to replace everything , I've talked to general motors several times they seem to be in denial about the problems going on with the vehicle. I think they should fix it sense every were I look everybody is having the same problems with same make and model. . Read more...

Since last year I've had to replace the brake pads twice because of a grinding/squealing noise. Now I need to replace them again ( 4-19-14 ). When ever I applied the brakes the pedal will vibrate and makes noises,if I apply the brakes while on the highway the brake pedal (vibrates a lot )and steering wheel shakes wicked. I brought my car to the dealer ship ( balise of warwick,ri )where it was bought from(my father-in-law bought the car there)and ask about any recalls. . . . They told me that there weren't any recalls for my car. Gee I wonder if the person that told me that was just lazy or if there aren't any recalls for it. Can someone let me know please. . . I have my grandson in the car a lot.

Brake pad and rotor. At 14584 & 49883 miles pads on all 4 wheels & rear rotors were replaced. Pads because of severe wear. Rear rotors on both occations were severly rusted and warped causing the front brakes to provide all the braking force resulting in severe wear & damage to the front pads. At 14584miles took car to chev. Dealer because of noise at rear when stopping. Rear rotors & pads replaced under warranty, front pads at our cost. At about 35000 had front brakes checked because of loud squealing, found front pads to be glazed. Rears not checked at this time. At49884 miles brakes gave out when exiting x-way. When the wheels were pulled rear rotors were again found to be completely rusted & warped . One of the front pads had broken & fallen out, the other pads were severly worn. Once again the front brakes were doing all the stopping because of the defective rear rotors. This time we had to pay for the whole repair. Chev. Dealer said gm felt this was normal wear. Two sets of warped & rusted rotors in less than 50000 miles does not seem like normal wear, it appears more likly to be a defect in the quality or design of the rotors & the pemature failure of the pads is a result of this defect. A web search of this problem shows that we are not the only people having this defect with rusty & warped rear rotors on gm products of the same model year. Service techs I've talk to about it tell me it's not uncommon to see.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated whenever you are driving down a hill the steering wheel began to shake violently and the brakes overheat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who installed new rotors under the warranty but within two months the identical failure occurred. The vehicle was taken again to a mechanic who installed new brake pads and heat shields behind the rotors so they would not overheat but the failure recurred within a month. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage was 35,000.

2008 Chevrolet Impala lt brake pulsates after normal use when stopping. Appears that there are hot spots on the rotors that cause the the pads on the front to grip and release causing severe front suspension shudder and uncontroable steering. This has been ongoing since the car is new and dealer just wants to sell me another brake job.

The contact owns 2005 Chevrolet Impala. On may 24, 2010, a routine oil change was being performed on the vehicle the contact noticed that there something wrong with the brakes and was told that they were functioning properly. When the contact attempted to have the vehicle inspected he was told that the brake pads were cracked and had cut into the rotors. The front brake pads were broken into three pieces. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 27647. Updated 10/26/10. Updated 10/26/10.
2007 Chevrolet Impala braking system grabs and shakes car excessively when using the brakes to control descent down mountain roadways. This has also occurred during commuting to and from work when the brakes are used quite often. The braking system was tested by a Chevrolet dealer, three days after the mountain driving problem. The rotors and pads were in excellent condition and no problem could be identified. A web search identifies other complaints of this same symptom. Although no damage was caused, the car was operating in a very unsafe manner. Even at 30 - 40 mph the car was shaking enough to degrade safe control.

Lose control of vehicle on wet roads. Brake rotors needed replacement at 12,000, 22,000 & 33,000 miles. Tires also replaced 3 times because of excessive wear on inside of back tires. Car out of alignment causing rearend to "push" car in wet weather. Dealer can't get car aligned properly. Vehicle sits at dealer because it is unsafe for my family to drive dealer cut rotors 1st time replaced 2nd and cut 3rd time. Each time they replaced the brake pads. At 12,000 dealer replaced tires after complaints that vehicle almost killed our entire family going 35 mph on interstate 80 in rain. Gm recalled police Impalas for same issue but refuse to recall consumer Impalas please help before more innocent people are killed.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. While driving downhill, the brakes would pulsate abnormally. The dealer road tested the vehicle and found bad pulsations in hard speed stops. Both front rotors exhibited severe heat spots and were warped. The brake pads were replaced with heavy duty brake pads. The vehicle was released to the owner but within 10,000 miles the brakes began to exhibit the same failure. The dealer could not duplicate the failure and advised the contact to down shift on hills to prevent the vibration in the brakes. No additional repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure persisted. The failure mileage was 16,514 and the current mileage was 26,952. Updated 03/24/10 the consumer was told the brakes were safe and no action would be taken. Updated 07/09/10.
I have rotated my front rotors and changed brake pads 2. I also have replaced them and 6 months later I have to turn the new ones. They have warped and my car vibrates very bad.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. While driving in rainy weather conditions at any speed, the brake system intermittently pulsated, and caused the vehicle to abnormally vibrate. Secondly, while applying pressure to the brake pedal, the vehicle would not stop. The failure was accompanied by a loud grinding noise. The dealer stated that if the brake pads are exposed to moisture, they could fail. They further stated that they would only replace the brake pads if the wear was less than 3mm, and repair or resurface the brake rotors. The brake pads were measured at 5mm. The manufacturer stated that although her vehicle was experiencing severe symptoms, they would not repair the vehicle until it displayed the minimum requirement for repair. The failure mileage was 12,269 and current mileage was 12,412.

Rear alignment not within specs from factory, caused rear tires to wear prematurely. Front disc brakes needed replacement 11,000 miles and rotors needed to be resurfaced. Chevy would not cover the repairs under warranty.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. I have had to replace brakes and rotors for this car a few times a year. The rotors are constantly getting warped with original gm rotors and brake pads. In 2005, I was in a car accident in which the wheels locked and I was unable to steer the car away from crashing into a curb inside a heavily traveled tunnel. At first, I thought that it was the wet roads due to rain. However, after replacing rotor and brakes constantly, I researched and found out that a NHTSA issued a recall for brakes in June of 2004. The campaign # is 04v28700. I called gm and they said that there were no recalls issued for my VIN#. I informed them that the NHTSA recall did not specify particular 2004 Impalas but the whole model year. They gave me the case #71-546836626 and said that they have no record of a recall for my car. What can I do to have this problem resolved?.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. While driving 50 mph, the contact heard a bumping sound when she depressed the brake pedal. She was able to continue driving the vehicle at the time. The dealer resurfaced the rear disc brakes and rotors and removed and installed the front and rear disc pads updated 01/24/08 . The current mileage was 16,000 and failure mileage was 14,297. The consumer is requesting to be reimbursed $444. 90 the cost of the part to repair the vehicle. Updated 01/24/08.
Brakes needed to be replaced with only 14,297 miles claiming it was environmental not worn brakes.
: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on normal road conditions the brakes were not responding adequately. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined the four rotors had to be resurfaced, however the pads were still in good conditions. The contact expressed concern because the vehicle has only 14950 miles.
: the contact stated while depressing the brake pedal the vehicle pulsates until stopped. The dealer replaced the pads and rotors twice but this has not remedied the problem.

Chevrolet Impala 2003 purchased 4/7/2003 VIN 2g1wf52e339336579 in general I have been very pleased with the vehicle above, but I have had two problems with the brakes since I purchase the car and it only has 11,225 miles of driving. I live in florida and my apartment is on the beach so I park close to the ocean about 8 months out of the year. The first problem occurred at 6,289 miles when the brakes were applied there was a vibration or grabbing feeling unlike normal smooth braking. The car was taken to quirk Chevrolet in quincy, MA on Aug 16, 2004. The technician said the brakes were rusted or pitted and needed to be ground down or replaced (see copy of work order from quirk attached). I asked him how this could happen. He explained that the brake mechanism is exposed to the air and not protected in any way, so that the salt air from the ocean environment could have caused the pitting in the brakes. The second problem occurred at 11,225 miles when the same feeling in braking was experienced by the driver. Again I took the car for repair at quirk and they reported ã‚inspected and found the front and rear brakes rusted badly, removed and replaced the front and rear brake pads and rotors. The cost about $725! I talked with customer service, vikie smith at 1 800 222 1020 regarding this matter on this date and she started a file or report in the computer at that time. Her direct line is 866 932 4368 ext 35336, file number 1-354258638. On this date we had a conference call with the quirk service dept and they told me that the problem with my brakes is due to the fact that I live on the beach and I do not drive the car enough to keep the rust from building up on the brakes.
2003 Impala. Brakes started to pulsate severely at slightly over 36000 miles. Since brake problems are usually not covered by warranty (and it had expired anyhow), I took it to a locally reliable auto repair garage. He suspected a warped front rotor (as I did also). Removed and replaced both front rotors and pads. The pulsation was still there. Removed both rear rotors. Both were badly scored on the inside - not visible during routine inspection. In addition, both rotors were partially crystalized, again on the inside. The pads here were also scored badly. After reading reports on 2003 Impalas on mycarstats. Com, I decided to add my complaint to the list there, all similar in nature. Old parts are not available.
Consumer brakes began to vibrate, brakes were cleaned and later replaced. The dealer has resurfaced the rear rotors, replaced the front disc pads, replaced both rear rotors twice, cleaned rust off the rear rotors, cleaned the braking surface and cleaned the front rotor surfaces. The trunk handle came off in the trunk.
2002 Impala developed a problem due to improper and unsafe brake pads and rotors. *** answer required***. The brake pads and rotors have been replaced three times. The vehicle was taken tot eh dealer to have the original pads and rotors replaced under warranty. The consumer had another repair facility look at the brakes and they believed that the pads were to small and that the rotors were not heavy enough for the weight and size of the vehicle. The seconds set of pads and rotors also failed and at that time the dealer admitted that there was a problem with the size and weight of the rotors and pads. The consumer request reimbursement for the first brake job.
2001 Impala front and rear brakes completely replaced. ** answer required***. The consumer stated the pads were falling off in his hands. The rotors had some scratches on them, but they could not be machined down. The consumer also had a 2001 Chevrolet s-10 that had the same brake problem.
I own a 2003 Impala. At 16000 miles I had to replace all four rotors and brake pads.
Consumer has replaced the brake pads himself. First, the brakes were grabbing and then they started making noise. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and after they heard the noise, they told him it was the brakes. Consumer took the vehicle himself and changed the brake pads, he kept the old ones and they were unbounded. Consumer called the manufacturer, and was told that they would cover the repair, but the dealer refused because consumer didn't have his service work done with them. Consumer was told that because of where he lives the brake pads malfunctioned faster. Consumer stated that there were approximately 36,000 miles on the brake pads.
Under hard high speed braking the front brakes shudder badly causing a severe front end shimmy due to warped rotors making stopping difficult. If pressure on pedal is not released this could cause loss of control and a crash. It is worse if going downhill. This is a very common issue on gm cars build in the last 8 years. There are posts all over the internet about this. The problem is with poorly made brake rotors that warp at under 15,000 miles of normal use. I have had the same issue with my wife's 2003 Impala. These cars should be recalled and the rotors replaced with parts of adequate quality. If you can get the issue addressed under warranty, the dealer will only either turn the defective rotors or replace them with the same oem junk. The only fix I have found it to replace them with aftermarket rotors and pads.
Got this car new 2003,at 376 miles had brake problems, had it back to dealer 10 or 11 times for same problem,so about every 3-4 months I have to turn rotors or get new one;s+brake pads, also dash lights are out,as the car is out of warranty now, this is the worst car I ever owned ,as I am a retired otr truck driver ,so I dont misuse brakes.
About 12,000 miles when the consumer stepped on the brakes the car would shake and vibrate. The car was taken back to the dealer and the brakes were fixed. At 29,000 miles the problem started again, the car would shake and vibrate when brake pressure was applied. The consumer wasn't satisfied with the dealer so the consumer took the car to his own mechanic. The mechanic replaced the rotors and the pads. The friction material on the pad separated from the metal backing. The mechanic had never seen this in a vehicle before. The mileage is low and the car has been very well taken of. There is only an adult driver that uses the vehicle. Updated 11/16/2005.
