Clunking noise in front end especially when you are in a turn. Also could feel a "thump" through the steering wheel at same time. We are stationed in germany in the air force. Took it to the opel dealer (chevy equiv. In germany) and they diagnosed it as the intermediate shaft needing to be replaced. After $300 and a long time waiting for the part, it was replaced and hasn't given us a problem since. Also have had major problem with this car "eating" brakes and rotors. Reminds me exactly of my Buick regal I had with the same brake issues. After I sold the regal, I was sent info on a class action suit against GMC for the same brake issues. Both are great cars but brakes stink.

Brake recall is not listed on site for Impala 2006 ss. . I had a problem with my brakes which the recall corrected the problem. The upgrade is not completed car is harder to stop. Gm and ted evens (cs department) from the chevy did not think of it has a big problem. However I can tell you my car will stop much better now.

Vehicle braking system malfunction. Refer to odi # 10134740. System failure resulted in loss of vehicle control resulting in vehicle accident resulting in major vehicle damage to right rear of vehicle from passenger door to the bumper.
Mileage the first time was 18,368 when I took it back to the dealer han graff chev durand michigan. Findings were "all four rotors had lateral runout beyond specs". They resurfaced front and rear rotors. Mileage second time was 31,038 and again I took it back to the dealer han graff Chevrolet durand michigan. Without even looking at it I was told that they would have to resurface or replace the rotors and questioned me if I was a 2 foot driver. Always blame the consumer--that was Smart. I took it to a reputable garage in my area and guess what again they had to resurface the front & rear rotors. I wrote to gm's ceo wagoner documenting all the facts and received a call from a young lady who told me "things wear out" .
Contact stated: having the same problem with brakes on car that investigation has been launched on. The brakes were gripping and vehicle kept going. Vehicle eventually stopped, but it took sometime to do so. Only happened in the winter.
Brakes wear uneven, always a strange sound. I have replaced them three times, even when I was told the pad was not worn.

While driving wouldstep on brake pedal, but the brakes will not stop or reduce speed of vehicle where had occurred without a prior warning.
Brake warning system light would go off whenever brakes are applied on wet road. Vehicle at dealer shop for inspection. Please provide any further details on this matter.
When sitting on a hill and taking foot off brake vehicle will roll back very fast, and driver has to slam on brakes, and then go forward. Consumer felt this was very dangerous.
Vehicle was driven on a hill & brakes were applied to stop. Took foot off brakes & vehicle started to roll backwards until brakes were applied again. Took vehicle to dealership & informed consumer that this was the characteristic of vehicle.
Since vehicle was bought there was problems with abs brakes. Could step on brake pedal to stop or reduce speed, but vehicle would not stop until a few feet after. Problem had not been corrected at dealer.
After driving the car for approximately two weeks, a distinctive vibration began which seemed to be located in the front end of the vehicle. I took the car to the dealer who determined that the front end brake rotors were vibrating on the wheel studs. Further inspection revealed that the holes in the rotors had been machined too large for the wheel studs. The dealer reported that there was "no fix available". The problem continued and became worse. A second call to the dealer resulted in the dealer informing me that the problem appeared to be specific to Impalas, and that other customers had reported the same problem. Still "no fix available". I contacted Chevrolet customer service, who also confirmed problem, but refused to offer a fix. The rotors are now significantly unstable and it is affecting braking action of the car in an unsafe manner. In total, I have yalked to chevy customer service three times, and have either taken the vehicle to the dealer or contacted the dealer once a month for the entire seven months I've owned the car. In short, it appears that the 2000 Impala LS has a serious defect in the front brake rotors which Chevrolet simply refuses to fix.
Abs: lost all braking power assist functions twice in one day; pedal travel to floor; increase in stopping distances; no warning. Tt.
