Cruise Control Problems of Chevrolet Impala - part 2

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. When the cruise control is set at 60 mph while driving downhill, the vehicle will accelerate to approximately 85-90 mph. The acceleration continues until the brakes are applied. The dealer stated that this was normal for the vehicle. The failure mileage was 1,471. Updated 10/21/08.

My cruise control light goes on and off without me pushing the button on the steering wheel. It won't work for that day or longer, then it works again. Just wondering if it is the fuse or the module.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. While driving 65 mph downhill with the cruise control activated, the vehicle automatically accelerated to 85 mph. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. The manufacturer advised the contact to read the owner's manual. The current mileage is 5,300 and failure mileage was 4,700. Updated 08/07/07.

Interstate driving using cruise control. Cruise control disabled when braking for an exit but left in the on position on the dimmer switch. Cruise control automatically resumes and the cruise light comes on without using the accel or resume button on the steering wheel. Applied the brake immediately and the cruise control disabled itself. I no longer leave the cruise control switch in the on position unless using. Will make appointment with dealer service to correct safety hazard.

Speedometer stopped working just before 2 years / we thought it was a vehicle in front of us with high rf output interfering / we were so wrong / / / earlier the gas gauge was sticking and required multiple twists of key to on without starting car then off on off on off on off . . . . . . . To reset it / later it got stuck pointing to the temperature and wont move at all / / / later the temperature gauge stopped working and will point anywhere / although 1 trip in 20 it seems as if its random setting could be correct / / / now the tachometer is intermittent / seems right when it works which is about 4 out of 5 trips / / / and the security light comes on at random / a few times was unable to start the car without waiting ten minutes / / / sometimes the traction light comes on erroneously / / / cruise control seems to have stopped working completely / / / no idea what will fail next / the internet is full of people with these complaints / / / consumers reports used car ratings has this car as bad in every category of parts that can need servicing / / / dealers want thousands to replace multiple parts but wont guarantee that they will fix the problem / / / internet notes that people have found bad solder joints in the bcm, bad wiring harness contacts, bad sensors, etc. And other design defects / / / I have found three independent companies making alternate parts to really fix these problems. And many solutions to help alleviate the problem. / / / is there an unadvertised recall or fix program by gm to fix the instruments and the bogus security system that only locks users out ?? / / / / / /.

Cruise control disengages itself when climbing moderate rises in road.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the windshield wipers and the cruise control failed to activate. The contact discovered that both functions were not able to be activated at the same time. Either the cruise control or the windshield wipers needed to be activated at a single time in order for either function to operate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. Ak.

While driving on a 2 lane road at 2000 rpms and about 65 mph, using cruise control for about 50 miles, the road started changed to one lane and cruise control system stopped electrically, but the mechanical portion continued to engage. Brakes had to be depressed hard to stop the vehicle. When the vehicle was stopped and put into neutral tachometer jumped to 4000 rpms.

Cruise control not responding. Sudden lunge/acceleration caused car to speed off the road. Driver injured, car totaled. Suspect cruise control later kicked in, some 40 miles down the road, causing sudden acceleration and subsequent accident.

When using my cruise control, turning it on and canceling, there is a clunk. Brought it to the dealer under warranty and said based on another chevy Impala it was normal.

Cruise control came on unexpectedly. It was the 2nd such incident on this car. The car had been in cruise, but I had slowed down for a reduced speed area. When I gave it the gas, the cruise came on without the resume button being pushed. The first time, the car was not in cruise. I had just started it in a parking lot, was entering traffic, and it came on at 15 mph. Both times, the cruise went off when I applied the brake.

Consumer complained about acceleration problems. The vehicle accelerated even though the foot was off the accelerator pedal. This happened 5 times in the past years. The accelerator only did this when the car was running for over 30 minutes. Previously, the engine could run for over 2 hours before this would happen. The car was in the shop 3 times, and the dealer had not been able to find the cause of the problem. Dealer performed a diagnostic test. But this did not lead to any information. They cruise control module was replaced after testing was done. The dealer suggested that consumer bring the car I when this problem occurred. Consumer contacted gm. They would document the claim and the vehicle 's history and that was all they could do. Consumer took the vehicle to 2 dealerships, and neither could find the cause of the problem.

Engine will surge, burble and loose power at idle after starting (cold or hot). No incident yet. GMC ccontacted. . . . No response. Dealer contacted. . . Presently in shop for 4th time.
