Sunroof exploded! I was driving my new, 3 week old, 2015 chevy Impala ltz on the highway doing about 65 mph, when there was a loud explosion and my retractable panel of the sunroof had exploded, without cause, and blew outward. Fortunately there was no one else in the car as the passenger seat and rear seats were covered with shards of glass. The remaining glass in the frame was all bent outward which made it appear that there was an internal explosion to push most of the glass up and out of the car. Why the mfg doesn't use safety glass, like the windshield, instead of tempered glass which breaks into a thousand pieces is a major safety issue. Fortunately I was able to maintain control of the car. There was nothing that hit the sunroof glass, it just exploded on its own.

Just purchased on 02/02/2015 the car comes with remote start so cleaned the icey snow off the car and windows. Got into the drivers side put on my seatbelt the the car had shut off after warming up. So I put the key in and started the car pushed the the the spray button. The passenger side worked the drivers side did not. After going online I found out page after page of complant's why no recall this is a safety issue they say it cost $300. 00 to 600. 00 each side gm made the problem they should bay to fix it.

The rear window defogger failed to operate and a burning smell was detected by passengers. It was discovered that an electrical connector that routes the power to the rear window defogger has a defective design and overheats and burns due to improperly sized connector pins in wiring harness connector located near the passenger kick panel. The problem is also documented in a number of sites on the internet including youtube where a video of the exact failure was found to be the identical failure as in our Impala. . Read more...
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the defroster failed causing the road visibility was poor. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000. Djr.

While driving on the interstate my visibility became very difficult to be able to continue driving. My windshield wipers stop working, so I had to pull off the interstate because of poor visibility. The motor and the transmitter in the wipers are working but they are not moving at all on the windshield.

Turned on rear window defroster, smelt burning plastic near passenger side door, found wire harness on passenger side kick panel melted at the rear window defroster connection due to high heat in the connector and it had scorched the underside of the interior carpet. Burnt both male and female ends of connector so it no longer works. Contacted Chevrolet and was told that it was a common problem that they had seen but there was no recall or advisory on it.
During freezing rain the rear window defroster quit operating making visibility out the rear window little to none. After troubleshooting, the problem came from a wiring harness below the fusebox on the passenger side of the vehicle by the passenger foot area. The wire for the rear window defroster had melted at the point inside the connector melting the plastic, and is a fire hazard. After researching this issue, many newer Chevrolet Impalas have encountered this issue, and it should be addressed.
Windshield wipers stopped working while trying to clear debris from windshield traveling at interstate speeds of 65mph+. Windshield wipers made one sweep, when activated again, motor clicked and wipers seized in partial up position creating visibility hazard. Continued to attempt to get wipers to function with no luck. Stopped vehicle, shutdown and restarted, attempted use of wipers again still would not function. Fuse checked and still good.
The contact owns 2006 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the rear passenger's side power window assembly failed. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power window regulator assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,562.
There is a very common problem with 2006-2013 Impala rear defrosters not working. Look on youtube and you will see the problem is very evident. Gm/chevy used a small bulkhead connector for the high current defroster wires located on the passenger side kick plate of the 2006-2013 Impala's that burns out. This really should be a recall due to a fire hazard. The "how to" fix on you tube looks like it will work, but this really should be addressed and fixed by gm. Inexperienced mechanics trying to fix this may get hurt, let alone increasing the electrical/fire hazard by improperly "fixing" the problem. Gm is recalling their vehicles for everything else so why not fix a known problem? sad for people in winter climates not being able to see out their rear window due to this systemic problem associated with the Impala.
I leased the car 5/10/2014 and I had seven occasions where the car simply wouldn't start and the check engine light came on over night on its own which caused the battery to die.

My wife and I own a 2012 Chevrolet Impala,I have researched this vehicle a lot. On complaint websites, there are pages and pages of people complaining about the blend doors for heat and air,you have no control over the defrost or air oor heat, that is dangerous for anybody to drive and you can go up to car and badly touch car and it starts clicking and clicking and don't stop,Chevrolet refuses to fix problem that's their fault for using inferior parts ,that to me and a lot,a lot of people say Chevrolet and gm,don't give a damn about the safety of their vehicles or customers,so if this problem isn't addressed,I know you don't care but I'll never buy a Chevrolet again, and I've bought quite a few Chevrolets, but never been treated this way for their mistakes, the reason I know it's dangerous is because you can't control any functions of the heat air or defrost,my wife is disabled and for her to have to get out and wipe windshield off just to drive, and god help us if it rains,we have to pull over to clean windshield,if that's not dangerous then anybody that owns one of these cars.

I was driving at approximately 40 mph on a straight roadway with brights on when the headlights went out. This occurred in the early morning while it was still dark out. The parking lights remained on. Pulling the headlight switch on the left side of dash to the "manual on" position did not help. I turned on the fog lights and returned home using the fog lights only. Upon arriving home, I was able to get the headlights to work again by switching to high beam and back. This has been an intermittent problem for this vehicle in the past month. The multifunction switch felt like it was fully engaged and gave an audible click when pulled. I have ordered a replacement multifunction switch to repair this.

Driving down the road head wipers on wipers quit for no reason come to the stop signtried turning it off and on a few times then once you take off the car would not move and then lunged forward and hit the person in front.
I've had my 2008 Impala since March 2014, and I've yet to have my rear defrost in working condition. I feel like this a constant complaint so there should be something done about this when there is over 400 complaints made about this same issue. It is very uncomfortable to not be able to see out your rear window cause of frost and when you wipe it with a cloth that is no help neither because it goes right back to being fogy. Help.
Passenger side windshield wiper functions failed while driving causing visibility hazard. Possible motor failure.

I noticed a strange smell like melting plastic coming from my passenger side dashboard under the glove compartment. Took it straight to the dealer. They discovered my back window defrost shorted out the fuse box on the passenger side. Completely melted it and ruined the box. If I had waited any longer it probably would have started a fire.
The wipers had ice on them as well as the right hand side of the windshield on 01/25/14 a week after I bought my car. The defroster had been on all the time during my drive home, about 1 hour. I had to stop a number of times to knock the ice off the wipers and scape the windshield. It happened again on 04/03/14 when I was driving home from the mpls airport. I had put on new wipers after the first incident, yet these wipers iced up as well. I again had the defroster on, sometimes it was full blast. I took pictures of the wiper blades on the 4/3 drive. I showed them to the dealership and they said the defrosters were working fine. To me this is a safety issue. Also there is terrible road/wind noise. I have recorded it. I had all the windows up, nothing was turned on and the noise is terrible. Even when at a stop, you can hear the noise of the passing cars 2 or more lanes away. The dealership said they couldn't do anything for it. They are working with me to try to resolve the issue. So I have no complaints about the dealership, but with the car. I am thinking of taking it to a body shop and see what they think of the road/wind noise. I even wear earplugs if I have to go very far because I can't stand to listen to the noise. I used to love to get in the car and just drive, with no radio on, I don't in this car. If you would like a picture of the wiper blades or listen to the noise in my car I can send those to you.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated while driving at 25 mph, the rear windshield exploded. There were no injuries. The contact mentioned that the failure had occurred once before. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
The driver side fan blows only cold air, so no defogging occurs on drivers side, obstructing drivers view.
The inside of the cars windows would fog and then ice up during last years winter. Could not see out the windows except small area of drivers side front window. Took into dealerships twice and they could not figure out why or fix it.
The vehicle is blowing cold air out of the passenger side of the vehicle even though the dual temperature controls are both set to hot. The safety issue here is that the defrost is also blowing cold air and will eventually cause impaired visibility due to the defroster not working on the passenger side. Doing research on the issue it seems to be the actuator on the passenger side. I just recently replaced the actuator on the drivers side.

The engine died in a hard rain, wipers quit, flashers came on, windows went up and down, cd player quit and radio came on, then flashers went off. Windows would not go back up soaking the inside of the doors. This is my wife's car and now she is afraid to drive it. I called the dealer twice and got a recording asking me to leave a brief message. If they don't have time to answer the phone, how long will it take to fix it?.
Rear window defrost stopped working. Replaced fuses and relay. Light comes on but defrost does not work. Investigation by owner showed wiring harness under front passenger kick panel burnt badly. Further investigation online indicates this has problem has been experienced by a large number of Impala owners. Due to the badly burn connection, passenger cabin fire could have occurred. Local chevy dealer service department denied any knowledge of similar instances. Recommend investigation.

My Impala has a very bad electrical problem. My air bag light has been on and the manual said it can deflate at any given time. My wipers half the time don't want to come on or work. My horn and alarm sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. The car shakes really bad when I drive it, especially the steering wheel. It also burns oil like crazy. I trust my 99' chevy suburban over my brand new 09' Impala. It is the most dangerous car I have ever had and I wish I never would have bought it. It definitely has triple the amount of problems then my 99' suburban had.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the rear window defrosting system failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the rear defrost wiring harness. The manufacturer advised that the failure was caused by ordinary wear and tear. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 65,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated the transmission that drives the windshield wiper broke. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaces the transmission for the windshield wipers at a cost to the contact. The manufacturer was notified who stated there was no recall for this failure. The failure mileage was 94,860. Mw.
The windshield has a curve to it that skews your perspective of the road. The car was a rental, and after just an hour of driving, my eyes hurt, and I got a headache. This seems like a poor design issue, and out concerned me for those who may actually own the vehicle.
