Brakes Failed Problems of Chevrolet K1500

Chevrolet K1500 owners have reported 5 problems related to brakes failed (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brakes Failed problem of the 2002 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

My Chevrolet silverado pickup (1500 4x4) has experienced three major brake failures. The first failure was while driving and approaching a stop sign. When I attempted to brake, my foot went to the floor. After pumping a few times, the truck slowed but with little stopping power. The vehicle was immediately towed and brake fluid was actively dripping from the lines. The second failure was about a year later while driving at low speeds (<5 mph) while parking. Again, my foot went to the floor before the abs system activated (completely dry conditions) with essentially no stopping power (abs activation but no braking power). This resulted in an accident as the truck did not have enough room to effectively stop (thank goodness the car in the parking space in front of my was unoccupied). After being repaired by the dealer (twice), the problem just occurred again (approx. 2 years later).

2 Brakes Failed problem of the 1997 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 05/20/2008

I have a 1997 chevy truck that continues to have brake failure. I see the recall is from 1999-2003 but am horrified that the problem is identical. I have replaced every part of my braking system and it still has the same problem. I can't stop!! my brakes are going to fail and I hope no one gets killed in the process. Gm needs to be held responsible for this problem. Thousands of complaints are on the web from the 1997 year truck!.

3 Brakes Failed problem of the 1998 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

Brake failure. Anti-lock brakes engage at low speeds (5-10 mph) when slowing to approach stop signs or when parking.

4 Brakes Failed problem of the 2000 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 01/02/2001

This is the second truck I have owned in which the brakes have failed. The brakes also failed on the truck I previously owned and this vehicle was bought back by general motors. I know of two more people who have had their trucks bought back by gm, and their new trucks have the same problems as the old trucks with the anti-lock brakes. It is time for someone to make gm repair these trucks before someone gets injured or killed.

When applying the abs brakes in any type of weather or speed, the pedal goes to the floor and the brakes fail to stop the vehicle. Ak.
