Clunk, knock and rattling sound from intermediate shaft and steering rack and pinion. The clunking and knocking sound happens at slow speeds (parking lots, driveway and city driving) and at 70-75 m. P. H. (highway speeds) it starts to rattle in the steering rack then makes the entire car start to vibrate.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, when making a left or right turned there is an abnormal noise coming from the electric steering under the dashboard. The steering wheel felt like it's shifting. The failure recurred when making turns only. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that it needed an intermediate steering shaft and replace the racking pinion. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was also diagnosed that the failure was coming from the electric power steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000. Aw.
