general problems of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu - part 2

On 3/15/21 my daughter was driving her2008 Malibu down 787 interstate when tax started going up an down engine raising for no reason also that same month when you turn sharp to go into a turn steering had mind of its own an you can here a lot of rattling up under dash on drivers side.

Drove vehicle and parked, when I came back and started the vehicle the power steering was not working, dash light read power steering. Managed to drive vehicle home with �no power steering�. Checked this site for recalls/problems found another owner who had same problem and they said that they had turned their car off and then back on and that the power steering started working again. After reading his message I went out and started my car and the power steering started working again. Will take it to my mechanic ASAP.

I bought this vehicle 3 weeks ago and for the past week it won't start. Power to everything but no crank. I took out battery and starter and they're both fine. All relays and fuses are fine. I took out all fuses under hood and car started fine. Made it 5 minutes up the road, my car started shaking badly,the power steering appeared on dash, speedometer stopped working, rpms worked, and car wouldn't shift out of 1st. That is dangerous and my vehicle was recalled for eps but no one will help me and this has been a re occurring issue with chevy Malibus in general. I had to turn around and just coast the whole way home then my car locked and wouldn't let me take it out of park when I got home.

Loss of power steering, several times when first started and also while driving. These happened in a commercial parking as well as on a highway.

Power steering going in and out. If power steering not working, sometimes turning car off and restarting it will enable power steering.

Loss of power steering in motion on freeway and surface streets.

I get a powersteering message while driving and powersteering goes out.

I was driving the car was perfectly fine I only had it for 4 months it's only had two owners me and one other person and all of a sudden the power steering just went it immediately stopped working the gauges are bobbin up and down it's telling me to service esc sometimes even the car won't start right away the lights on the gear stick won't turn on right away the engine light turned on the traction control turns off it's telling me power steering service tire monitor even though there's nothing wrong with it I don't know what's going on this car brands like brand new at first and then within a month of driving it it immediately just started crashing and that's when I read that there's been a lot of recalls on this model everything's electrical there's no power steering fluid nothing like that sometimes when the gears are changing they stick and it makes buffering sounds now it's starting to sputter and I have no idea what's going on this is dangerous having to stop and restart the car sometimes just to get the computer to recognize that the system is fine every time I call gm and I tell them that this car was never serviced when the recalls first happened they automatically reject me I don't know what to do as I said this car is basically brand-new it's only had two owners me and one other person it never was brought in when the first recall was acknowledged so this is still has all the original parts in it is there no one around that can help me?.

Transmission 123 gear slips changes on own try to accelerate stalls downshifts stalls also transmission control module been told will happen when trying to speed up or complete stop or reverse the turning signals will have to be manually stopped interfering with driving barley make. Sound sometimes forget the are on still cruise control totally waked out does what ever it want speed or slows on own I do know of one current recall I've made several attempts to call w no return messages the transmission control module need replaced because the solenoids keep getting stuck 123 mine also the core fee for this is unbelievable 300-600 for the core fee . . Why are these being sold for prices of 500-1000$ if the are being refurbished seems to be a hot item to even find used or new if u could afford it . . These gm transmission issues are everywhere . . . . Why are the no recalls . . This is very unsafe shift failure 45ph to 15ph in a sec . . Or nothing the dealerships are very hard to deal with if you just want a part or info a transmission control module part # 12678511 recall 14v224000 # 14145 dellen Chevrolet 317 462-5591 made a few calls w no response to schedule been 7 days now. Stanley Chevrolet penalton in. Justin would not allowe a part # to me unless 120. $ diagnostic then tolde to get out after a few words exchange so I paid for a diagnostic twice neither through gm they told me the repair would be 1300$ over the phone doug at dellen Chevrolet I thk that's name gave me quote over phone . . So there's much more the transmission and solenoids in theses cars should be recalled or flashed fixed and if u read it's been going on since 2004 and now the new and newer one still same problems I've had to stop oil over restart car put in neutral to shift rpms get high I live in a small town walkers to diners etc . . Needs attn into.

When driving vehicle jerks left and right. . Making it hard to control. . This happens while driving more than 35 mph. . I though it was a wheel alingment but it was perform by 2 different shops and still does it. . .

Steering wheel stop from very smooth turning to such a hard to turn the wheels, almost impossible for me.

When I drive the car sometimes I get a message on my dash that says service traction control and service power steering. When the service power steering message comes on the speedometer says error and I cannot see how fast I'm going and the car stays in first gear.

Power steering went out and I could not turn my steering wheel, and it's getting harder by the second.

Came home from work, parked my car. Everything was normal. Next day I went to start it and leave for work. When I turned on the car, the power steering alert appeared in the information center. Very hard to steer. Thought it just needed some power steering fluid but learned this car does not take any. Started doing some research and found out that many people have issues with this car and power steering.

Power steering stopped working when stopped to make a left turn across 3 lanes of traffic, when clear. It did not work in the 3 miles to home. It was frightening. I drove to the repair shop(non dealer) . They quoted a repair cost and indicated there had been an expired bulletin. I told them to repair the vehicle. Total charges were $708. 30. The part replaced,#23232310 was replaced by the gm dealer on Mar 03,2015 @78,311 miles on bulletin # 14117 at no charge without any previous issues. Requested total refund from dealer - they said call gm - (case #9-5965042373)who said the period of 10 years/150,000 miles had expired. Am I without recourse in this matter?a good part lasted almost 7 years,replaced by a part that lasted 5+ years. I wonder if this new part will correct the problem or is it a design problem? will you help me?.

My electric locks are locking and unlocking randomly and the power steering goes out with message on dash. There is no powersteering until I turn the car off and back on then last for a undetermined amount of time.

I've contacted general motors after being advised this was and is a known issue and in most cases is covered under recalls and extended coverage. They said this vehicle wasn't covered.

The power steering goes out without warning. A "power steering" alert comes up on the dash and the power steering goes out. This can happen after putting it in park or while driving slow, fast, straight or turning.

Steering will lock up sometimes it say power steering on warning, sometimes the traction control light comes on I can correct by putting in park shutting off the vehicle and restarting, then it goes back to normal operation - I am worried I might get rear ended if I can't get over in time this has happened several times but most recently three times last week and so far twice this week happens when going into a turn.

If I drive real fast whenever it rain it'll say power steering service traction off my car would slid as I pull off from a complete stop . It's hard for my car to turn and it's triggering my check engine light . On the highway wheels and tires shake.

When driving the power steering goes out making the vehicle extremely hard to steer. When you turn the car off and turn it back on, it would stop for a short period of time, but would repeat the same problem.

The steering wheel starts to shake and pulls to the right side. Cannot control the car. Called gm and explained that there was not a recall. Gm was terrible and would not let me speak to a supervisor concerning this issue. I cannot drive the car.

2008 chevy Malibu engine shut off in mid drive on city highway during high traffic. My wife and children were in the vehicle the check engine light has displayed and continue to code p0365/6. However the camshaft position sensors, the camshaft position actuators, the altenator and the battery have all been replaced. The issue has upset me due to the fact that it is in line with 2 known concerns and reports that have not been answered by chevy or gm. 1) discussion of battery cables being the cause of the problem (unanswered) 2) gm ignition switch recall Feb 2014 (which seems to be very in line with this issue). I have taken the vehicle to the chevy dealership and ofcourse paid for a diagnostic to be told "could not duplicate". It is very concerning to me and hard to believe that this was the first time that these symptoms have been reported and no one knows what could be the source. I was able to find forums and reports on both the battery cables and the ignition switch failures. The ignition switch failure were supposedly only issues for specific vehicles however the symptoms within the recorded Malibu community are totally in line with the same from that recall. We now also have a problem with the ignition struggling to turnover. This is highly unsafe, financially burdening and stressful on the families who are currently dealing with these concerns with no answer or response in sight. Requesting assistance.

While driving down the road at about 20mph on city streets my power steering went out while I was turning left into a business and I was unable to turn the steering wheel. I had to turn the car off, then back on, and it would drive for a short while before power steering would shut off again, usually while making a left or right turn. The steering wheel also turns on its own while sitting still. I am unable to drive the car. Also, the steering wheel is making a grinding, popping noise and flashing "check airbag" messages when the car is turned on. I have researched this problem and found the power steering issue to be a broad gm vehicle problem. Chevy Malibus from 2004 to 2010 I believe were all covered for a recall. My VIN however is not on this list and I am suffering the same problems as all of these other chevy Malibu owners. My vehicle has 128,xxx miles.

First time car was in park. Then the traction control light comes but doesn't turn off. Also message pops up saying to service traction control. Next was stationary, I stopped at a light and the car just shut off. Next was stationary and the car turned on but then the cluster instrument lights didn't come on it was completely dark. Also while in motion car rpm didn't read anymore and it was shifting hard. Another thing it says service tire sensor and service airbag.

I started the vehicle up. Vehicle was still in park and the wheel started shaking from left to right ok n it's own for about 45 seconds. Power steering then popped up on the dash. The wheel stopped shaking. I backed out and began driving. I began on highway and the wheel starts shaking again. The wheel was shaking from left to right making it hard to steer the vehicle. I had to pull over to the side of the highway.

The steering wheel loses power due to an electrical power steering issue that shows to have been fixed but it is still occurring and could result in an accident due to the limited ability to turn the steering wheel.

This vehicle VIN code has not shown up for electric power steering recall. 05-07 chevy Malibus 3. 5l. My 2008 Malibu was manufactured July 2007. My understanding is gm vehicles manufactured after the months of March or April are next calander year. So my 2008 chevy Malibu is an 05-07 body and understood as best trim level offered before the next body style and model. The 2008 model years body style changed.
