Power Steering Light On problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

Power steering lights up on dash and steering wheel locks. Happens mostly with cold weather. While driving down a highway the steering locks. I have to stop and restart car in the middle of the road. Also. After being parked. When the car gets to a cold temperature the steering wheel will lock up.

The failure recurred and the contact was unable to pay to have the vehicle towed to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,000.

While traveling vehicle will be running normally then it will show the power steering light giving a short warning, then the power steering will not be able to operate, have to pull over and restart the car.

Service eas warning light comes on. Then the rear brake lights stay on. The service power steering warning light comes on & the car is very hard to control & nearly impossible to steer. This is extremely dangerous & unsafe.

My break lights are reversed or just don't work sometimes. Also my esc and power steering lights keep coming on and my power steering goes out every 10-15 miles causing me to have to try and pull off the road to restart my car and reset it. After having almost been in 12 accidents due to this process and reading up on several others having the same issues I believe in full this needs looked into.

Upon driving the car the esc light and power steering light will come on and care will have no power steering. Steering wheel also moves on it's on and makes sounds inside the column. Very dangerous for my wife to have to drive and drop off the kids at school. Nothing but problems out of the car since we purchased it 3 years ago.

Was driving on a city street approaching an s bend going down hill with a steep embankment when the power steering failed. Power steering esc lights went activated. I almost went over the embankment before being able to forcefully turn the wheel and continued to the bottom of the hill and off to the side of the road. I was close to home so I was able to drive the car home. I called for a tow truck driver. When he arrived the power steering was fine no power steering messages. He was aware of previous recalls but this vehicle has no active recall even though it is the exact problem covered by same year make and model.

The steering wheel would twitch then it became very hard to turn while in motion. The power steering and esc off lights came on.

I have service esc light (electronic stability control) and power steering lights that just recently came on in my 2010 chevy Malibu. I have called gm and they refuse to fix the issue because it supposedly isn't under my VIN number 1g1zc5eb8a4113770, even though my car is experiencing the same issue as listed in the recalls. I have visited numerous sites from people who have 2010 Malibu's and have had the same issue with them refusing to fix the issue because it again supposedly wasn't listed under their VIN. I will be getting a lawyer and if my car causes me to get into an accident I have given all information to go forward with a lawsuit. This is absolutely unacceptable and I will never buy another car from gm!!!!!!!! now I have to pay out of pocket and I have no idea what it will cost me!!!! I don't know why I am even bothering to write this complaint because nothing will be done!!!.

We purchased this Malibu lt 2010 in September 2018, it had under 100,000 miles on it. A few days ago I was pulling out of the driveway & the power steering went out & the esc & powersteering warning lights came on. I shut the car off & turned it back on it was working fine until 3 days later. I was driving on the highway & it did it again powersteering went out & the esc & powersteering warning lights came on & its been doing it ever since. It had done it in mid turns, drivibg straight, any time it feels like it. I can feel in the steering when its about to do it. I feel like a pull a catch I would say. This was an extremely dangerous situation especially ehen you have teenage drivers in your household. I've foubd multiple online reports about this very problem ovet the past fee days as I have been researching.

I put brand new rims and tires on the 2010 Malibu and received an alignment. About 20 minutes later while driving on the highway my steering wheel locked up and my esc power steering lights came on! fortunately I was not injured.

I was driving and my power steering light came on the dashboard and the steering wheel became hard to maneuver. I turned off the vehicle and it was drivable, but again the steering wheel became hard to drive.

While driving the esc, traction and power steering lights came on and then the power steering went out. For a short time I could stop, turn the car off and it would work again . Now there is no power steering and of course all the lights are still on. This year model was listed as one of the recalls for the power steering but not my VIN number. I have had this car in the shop for a recall on the lighting system that was faulty which in the recall it did say that it could cause the power steering to go out as well as the esc and traction. The chev dealership said that this was not correct. The estimate I was given was about $1500. 00 to fix the problem.

My 2010 Malibu has started to have all sorts of steering issues, I have had a lot of the same issues others have had, my esc and power steering light came on, I shut the car off and restarted it and it worked like "normal" but since then there is a lot of play in the steering wheel, and even if you are sitting still, the wheel itself makes a sudden little jerk type movement. Is there anything out there to fix these issues???.

May 4th 2018 I was driving and steering wheel started to shake and tighten up, I pulled over and put on hazard lights , it felt if I had a flat tire , power steering light came on, I shut car off that turned back on proceeded to pull on to highway and car seemed fine again , I am scared to drive.

We got this 2010 Malibu about a month ago. On April 12, 2010 I had a sudden loss of power steering while driving on high way 9. I pulled over on the shoulder and turned it off and waited about 25 minutes and when I started the engine it goes back to normal. Few days ago we had the same problem while exiting the freeway. Again, we had to park it on the shoulder and when we turned it off and turned it back on it would go back to normal. We took it to the closest shop and the mechanics there checked it and found nothing wrong with it. They said all chevys with traction control are like that, especially when it's pouring rain or when it's too cold, and I believe they were telling the truth because I usually have all these esc/traction and steering wheel warning lights only when it's raiining or too cold. Please help us as we have kids and don't want to take the risk. Thanks!.

I was driving down the road and the power steering light came on along with esc, and service esc. I could not steer my car as usual. I shut off the car and when I started it back up it was fine.

Pulled out of car wash and onto the highway (speed limit is only 40) through town, power steering went out and light began displaying with audible sound as well as service esc. The mileage on my vehicle is 150,760 when this occurred. There is currently a bulletin published referencing this problem (15356) in which it appears to only warrant a repair at manufacturer cost if 150,000 miles/ten years. From reading online forums, I am not the only one to "just" miss the failure and manufacturer reimbursement. This is dangerous and should be addressed no matter the mileage.

Power steering light comes on then power steering goes out. I turn car off then re start and it goes away. The power steering went out on me 7 times the other day. It goes out just after I start my car sometimes. This is very dangerous, especially since my drive to work is going around a lot of curves. This issue has been going on for about a week. I've read there are lots of other issues with this with other drivers. Luckily I've managed to coast in straight ways to stop signs so I can turn off and restart my car. I may not be that lucky always.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,525. Aw.

I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden I lose power of steering. The power steering light came on and the esc light. Totally freaked me out. I pulled over to the side of the freeway and turn the car off. When I restarted the car everything went back to normal until later that day. This has been happen for the last three day. Soon as I start the car up and drive for a 3 miles then the power steering goes and if I stop and turn the car off and restart, it goes away for a moment and then comes bac. I don't think this is normal. This is happening at all different rate of speed.

Car had been parked for apx 2hrs. Got into car and what appeared to be water dripped from under the dash onto the floor just under the emergency break peddle. It had rained within the last hour. Thought of it as odd but not a real issue. Within one minute of driving the steering wheel shuttered. Steering light on dash eliminated. Steering became difficult. Light went out. Parked car. Restarted car and let idle s few minutes. Steering light went on again. Searched online. Looked under dash. Clear fluid on emergency break peddle. A few drops of moister in same area. Parked car.

I got the car in 2015 and from that I have had problem with the steering light coming on and shutting off the power steering which my wife was driving and she lost control of the car and almost ran into a pole. This has happened more than one time and when she turn off the car, it works again but then happens again. I have more problems with the headlights going out over and over and the socket being burned out and have to replace them as well now my radio has power but doesn't come on, after it was just working. I can't hear any door chimes or turn signal signs. It like a problem after a problem with the electrical components in this car. I am buy this car but we don't even feel safe to drive it. It has only 79000 miles but the problems started happening around 50,000 miles and when I got the car it had 43,000 miles I believe.

I was at burger king drive thru and when I got done ordering I tried to pull around and my power steering light cam on and my esc light . I could not turn it was very hard I had to turn off my car and it fixed it self. This better be a recall bec why do I got to spend my money to fix this it's bs.

"takata report" car lose's steering out of no where lights on dash flash. Shows recall for other years but not 2010. Even thou sticker on door of car says was built in 2009. Type in VIN. Says no recalls at this time is confusing when have seen that there was one. Campaign # 14v252000 figure just another way gm covering up their tracks. At our lives expense. Was driving on the interstate when a car from a side road, failed to stop at the sign. I swerved to avoid. . . Which I did. And my power steering light came on, along with my ecs. Warning light. I now have no power steering. Although it does reset it's self after shutting it off. But will come back on sort after it is running again. There is a recall on this if it were a 09, since mine is a 2010 there's not. Nothing changed between the two. So u ask why is mine not included?.

The power steeling went on the car. It was extremely difficult to turn the wheel. The power steering light came on in the vehicle. Apparantly this has been the case for all of the chevy Malibu's. This is very dangerous and should be part of a recall like the previous years were. I think there needs to be some changes to the power steering columns to ensure this doesn't happen in the future makes and chevy needs to do the right thing and issue a recall on the 2010 Malibu to cover this.
