2 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2019

Whenever the car starts, the service esc lights come on and stay on. Steering wheel is very hard to turn and won't turn unless the car is in motion thus causing me to wrestle with the steering wheel to make a right or left turn. Every mechanic I've seen told me to trade it in because the repairs are quite expensive. They mentioned something about replacing the entire steering column. They also couldn't service the power steering because it's strictly electronic. This is not safe for me or my family because who knows when it will lock up for good while I'm driving. This has been going on for the past month. Please help me.

3 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

Steering wheel is hard to turn and has a hesitation when turning.

4 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2018

For the last three days my 2010 Malibu is experiencing a problem with the steering. Every time I turn my car on it says service esc and my steering is super hard to work with. I can't steer my car at all. I have to shut my car off and reset the engine until the service esc goes away. I was driving home from work today and it went off while I was driving and I couldn't steer my car at all. I had to pull over which was tough because there was some traffic. I've been looking all over online and most people say there is a recall for the steering column but my car's VIN isn't popping up for any of the recalls. Which is crazy because my car is doing the same stuff the people who got it fixed for free.

5 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2017

I am constantly getting a warning that my power steering is out and "service esc". I restart the vehicle and it goes away for a short amount of time then I have the same warning sign on the dash and the steering is hard again.

6 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2017

Power steering issue started in December 2017 to present. When I would start my car it was hard to turn the steering wheel this has happen 34 times I had to turn the car off then restart the car problem went a away 4 times while driving on down the street and highway the power steering would go out. Have to stop turn the car off. Restart the car. Chevy on January 26, 2018 I have call about this problem they have told me there is a recall the number is 15356 corporate office told me to take it to a dealer see if a code shows up if the problem goes away. And no code there is nothing they can do about it. I have told them anything happens I will hold them responsible. I have taken my car to the dealer they ran a test told me no code came up. The last time was not good. On April 25 2018 I have to start my car 3 times do to the steering wheel was hard to turn message came up saying service esc then esc is off. When leave from the place I was at the same thing happen again. But while driving on the street the power steering went out had to come to a stop. Turn the car off, and on so I could drive home. This 2 times on the same night. Mileage was around 89,000 not sure.

7 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2017

The vechile lost speed as I was driving into a parking space. I then put it in park. At that point the engine light was blinking. The car was shaking uncontrollably as if it would all just fall apart in pieces. The steering wheel was hard to turn and also rapidly shaking. The service esc, service traction control, and a light with a car on a curved road was also on. This almost caused me to hit a parked car in front of me. I turned the car off and then back on and all the lights were off. I believe it to be the streering coloumn or an electrial issue. I read on some recalls and I think it is similar to the recall #14e044000. However, when I search my VIN it is not listed under it. Yet it is the same issue.

8 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2017

I started the car then began to pull away from park. The driver's info display had a message pop up - something about steering, or esc, or something like that. I think it went off or maybe it went off when I stopped the car and shut the engine off to try and reset the system. While the engine was still running when I was starting to pull away from park, the steering wheel was extremely hard to turn. I shut the car off and restarted it and it seemed fine. Now, there is a grumbling sound coming from the steering column and wheel shakes a little. The service engine light is on but I have not had it read yet to see what codes come up.

9 Steering Is Tight problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2015

I was driving with my son and his friend (both in the back seat thankfully!) down a hill (maybe 10-20 mph) to a stop light when I heard a pinging noise and no longer had control of steering. The power steering and esc warnings were showing on the dashboard and steering was exceptionally hard. I was able (barely) to make the turn and pull over to the side of the road and turned the car off (very hard to do at a slow mph). I waited about 10-20 seconds and turned it back on and it seemed fine. I had an appointment for an oil change the next day and planned on asking them to check it. Later that same night, I was driving at about 35 mph when the same thing happened on a main road. I pulled into a parking lot (not easily) and turned the car off and back on, but it did not reset itself. The next morning I took my car for an oil change and they told me that the power steering is electrical and that they would have someone look at it the next day (it was Sunday and I needed to wait until Monday). Monday morning they called me and told me that I would need to bring it to the dealer for replacement of the power steering motor and that they've seen this multiple times with gm cars. I brought it to h&l chevy in darien, CT where I bought it and they told me that although there is a large recall for this issue, that my car is not eligible for it even though it's the exact same problem!! I see on the NHTSA website that there are many complaints about this with a 2010 Malibu and I would like to know how to get this covered by gm -- it's ridiculously expensive for a single parent (or anyone for that matter!).

10 Steering Is Tight problem

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the steering wheel was tight and also that there was a progressing failure in which the steering wheel was randomly locking for an extended period of time. The contact constantly had to turn the vehicle off and restart the vehicle each time the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop who was not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14e044000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
