5 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/24/2013

For some reason the entire interior trim on the door panels have come unglued and detached from the doors. It looks terrible. I recently received a recall notice regarding a knocking noise in the steering. Of course, this has been going on for years and now the notice says my car must have less than 150k miles on it. I dare say there are not many 2004 vehicles with less than 150k miles? mine is around 164k. We use to spray grease on the joint where it hits when the steering wheel is turned. I had been told a dealer would want to replace the entire rack n pinion on the vehicle, but that would not correct the problem. Guess I am just out of luck.

7 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

I was driving along and heard a loud popping noise and I thought I may have ran over a plastic bottle. I was not driving fast I was on a main street heading towards the ramp to get onto the highway. I later heard clunking noise from the rear of the car. I thought at first maybe it was something in my trunk. Knowing I didn't have much in the trunk I looked and didn't find anything that could be making that noise. All week I heard this noise while driving to work. I brought my car to sears & the mechanic took me into their service area to show me that the spring was snapped and that is where the noise was coming from. It was snapped on the bottom half of the spring - rear passenger side. I asked the mechanic how typical was this problem and he told me only a month ago he fixed another Malibu with the same problem - but the other Malibu had less mileage approx 80,000. I was given an estimate - and it's free of charge to look vehicle over. I went to chevy dealer they want to charge before they look @ the car and if you decide to go with their price they'll apply that amount to your bill. If they don't do the work - your out of that money. How can they do that? also the air bag light will occassionally come on and my fob's are not working - I was told the factory fob's might have to be reset? also an additional charge to look at. Thanks chevy - but no thanks! charging your customers to look at a vehicle purchased brand new from your company - shame on you!!.

8 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

After my 2003 Chevrolet Malibu had been parked in the sun for a while, on a short trip of 4 miles, the car started reving up and taking off on it;s on. It also caused my a/c hose to burst (I am convinced it is related). I took it to dealer for repair and they cleaned the throttle and replaced the a/c hose. There is still the same problem. It seems as though it happens when it is very hot weather and I am making short trips running errands which calls for turning engine off and restarting. I drove back home with my foot entirely on the brakes while trying to keep the car from running out of control. I am very reluctant to drive it now, until I can find someone to "really" fix the problem (as I was stuck with a $487 repair bill).

9 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Key fob does not unlock or lock the front and back doors on the drivers side. If someone is in the back seat the driver can not get them out as the door lock will not open with the fob. When the car is put in drive the drivers door does not lock, so it is assummed that you are safely locked in the car, but the door needs to be locked manually after in the car is put in drive. When locked manually when in car, when the car is turned off the door will not open automatically and has to be manually opened by pulling the lock on door up on the driver door and the back passenger door. When trying to use the remote to lock the doors, the front and back doors do not lock unless done manually. When the fob is used to unlock the doors as I try to get into the car the fob does not work and I have to manually with the key unlock the door. When trying to remote start the car the remote start does not work, as the driver side door and back door will not lock, so remote start does not work. I had an incident with the back door when I needed to get an individual out of the back seat quickly and it was not possible. I had to run to the other side of the car and get the individual out by pulling them to the other side of the car. When I am approaching my car in an area that I feel unsafe in, such as a garage, I am not able to open my car door with the fob and have to again use the key. Again then when I get in the car I am unsafe as the door does not lock, front or back if not locked manually. I feel very strongly that this is a safety issue, especially not being able to get someone out of the back seat or me out of the front should I encounter an emergency situation, or if I am in an accident, or if for any reason I have a fire in the car.

10 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

I was driving, the car just stopped and turned off, I could not switch gears or take my key out of the ignition. Car had to be towed and I paid $470. 00 to gave the ignition switch replaced,.

11 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

Passenger doors will not lock (or unlock ) with the remote or manual push button switch on drivers arm rest. The only way to lock (or unlock) rear doors is crawl over front seats to manually pull up lever on back side of door. Or. . . . . . . Use the electric windows and lower rear windows to reach in from outside. . . . . . Which anyone that lives in a cold climate knows you don't lower an electric window in cold weather. . . . . Have been to the dealer numerous times and they refuse to cover anything. . . . . What if I have my grandson strapped in a car seat in the back seat and an emergency arises ? how do I "quickly" get him out??? this is a very common situation with the chev. Malibus. Plus there are numerous issues with the front end and steering components.

12 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

I started the vehicle and began to backup. The vehicle suddenly lost power steering. I put the vehicle into "park" and then immediately turned the vehicle off and then on again and the power steering function returned and functioned normally. This has happened on (3) occasions. I took the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealer, but they said that they could not replicate the problem. I submitted a complaint online on (3) occasions to gm, but they never responded. I'm suprised that this vehicle is not included in the recent recall concerning loss of power steering. Ps. . . Sorry, but I don't answer phone calls that are not familiar.

13 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/15/2012

The anti-theft light comes on at sporadic times and does not allow car to start. You then have to wait at least 10 minutes to restart car. This could be a potentially dangerous situation depending where you are when car will not start. I had a small child with me on the way to the doctor and made a stop at the drug store, then tried to restart car to proceed to doctor and car would not start. Since I only recently acquired this car, I have done research on this problem and see that it is a big problem with chevy Malibus. Why isn't there a recall for this--or, if there is one, please advise.

16 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/04/2009

When we purchased the Malibu ltz v6 fully loaded , leather seats all the upgraded options I thought I was getting a "excellent" car. I was delusional ! within a couple of months I had a problem with my radio, and components in the radio saying" aux input device" and it kept turning on and off ! I called Chevrolet in green cove springs florida and asked them about it and they said it was "nothing" it wasn't nothing ! I was told of course "after my warranty expired" that it was the electrical system! and that I would have to pay more then $3,000 to fix it! nice gm! because the electrical system is wired into the radio so when they radio has a problem guess what ladies and gentlemen ? everything goes to hell ! also my motors on all my doors have failed at least once and now because my electrical system is going my doors open and close when they want to ! I was driving on highway at 70 miles and hour and all of a sudden my car started to slow down as if I had no power again they said nothing was wrong ! this is my first Chevrolet and my last ! I am trading this garbage in for a foreign car ! probably a fiat ! thank you ! gm should be ashamed of themselves we the american people bailed them out and they have china who btw hates us ! making parts for our cars ! omg I just love this country !.
