My car cuts off and goes into the anti-theft system while I'm going down the road when this happens my car has to be pushed off the roadway and then I have to sit with my driver side door open and my key turned on for 10 minutes until it resets itself this is very dangerous and it scared me because I was in the middle of highway 150 in danville kentucky. Plusmy heating system is messed up I can't get it to bleed out the air in the system.

I have been having problems with the anti-theft system. My car continues to not start until I complete a 10 minute procedure each time. This is very annoying and have left me stranded many times. I believe that this is a recall that needs to be corrected immediately. There have been numerous complaints on this problem and nothing has been done.

Anti-theft locking device make car stop and can't start even in emergency situation. Had gone to bank and when tried to start vehicle and wouldn't start. Client is 88 years old and had to go out on street seeking help to get car fixed. (forgot cell phone at home) walked some distance and was having respiratory problems when she reached an auto shop. Mechanic went to car to help and fixed problem. Said it was anti-theft mechanism. This same thing has happened before when car had to be towed and was diagnosed as anti-theft locking device. Researching matter on internet and find there are thousands of Chevrolets exhibiting the same defect. Why isn't Chevrolet required to fix this problem before some dies as a result. We can't always control circumstances of being stranded, where when how etc. , and this is absolutely a safety problem for the driver. Please help with this problem. When individuals are on fixed income they can't keep going to dealer and have $108 diagnosis to determine problem (when they already know what it is) and then charging big bucks to fix a minor fix. Thank you for your attention.
Anti theft device caused car to be unable to start even with correct key. Stationary. Computer had to. Be reprogrammed.
My car will randomly not start with no engine codes. It appears to have problems with the key insert also says anti-theft. Mostly when I am parked.

The anti theft kicks in whenever it wants and shuts off power to the car. No matter what I do it doesn't shut off.

I purchased my used car in the fall of 2015. Since then, I have experienced several incidents - now occurring more frequently - in which my car will not start because the anti-theft system believes I am trying to steal it. When I turn the key in the ignition, the car will not start and the anti-theft light starts blinking. I must wait exactly 10 minutes with the key in the "on" position for the light to stop blinking. Then I can restart the car and it works fine. This has happened several times in the past few weeks. I have looked online for solutions to this problem, and have discovered that numerous Malibu owners have experienced the exact same problem. I have been stranded in dark parking lots multiple times, and do not feel safe knowing that my vehicle regularly will not start without a ten minute delay.
My Malibu was working just fine until one day it just stopped starting. I would have to wait for a whole day to pass before it being able to start. Ive had other complain it being the anti theft or the computer.

Everytime I go to start my car my anti-theft system kicks on and I have to wait 15 xtra mins to get anywhere.
My 2011 Chevrolet Malibu is cranking, but not starting. I had a it towed to a repair shop, who ran a test on the fuel system, battery, alternator, but nothing was found. I researched it and found that the anti-theft system can stop your vehicle from starting. It seems that the anti-theft system locked after I was sitting in my car during lunch listening to the radio for an hour. I turned the key twice to reset the radio after it timed out. As I left work to go home it wouldn't start. I found out that if you reset the system, it will start after 10-15 mins. After sitting overnight at the repair shop, it started. Here I am a week later and its doing it again, but now I'm getting a signal with a locked car symbol on the dash. It seems that that anti-system is locked again. I cannot find out how to reset it. I was not in the vehicle playing the radio at all that day. However, this issue happened to me a year after I got the car too after washing the car and listening to the radio. I forgot about that incident until now. I am seeing over 250 complaints about this same issue. There were some cars recalled, but mine does not have one associated with it. It gm recalled it on some, they should recall it on all, it's the same issue. I would like to know if they plan to do this, because I'm seeing and hearing they are no fixes at the repair shop. They try to fix it with expensive options, but the issue comes back. I read that some people car stalled when the anti-theft system locked. I don't want this to happen to me and my family. Thank goodness mine was parked each time.

I took the car in for the ignition recall and all the dealership did was charge me for a replacement key. The key was working fine for a few days and now the ignition is hard to turn over and the car has actually not turning over and the anti theft lights came on while the car was at a car wash getting detailed and I had to tow the car. When I called the irving texas dealership I kept getting asked the same questions and then no one returned my call. The car had been working fine and was stopped when all this happened.
Cars anti theft is not reading the key so car will not start.
I was trying to remote start my 2012 Malibu in the morning but it didn't start. Instead my car was doing a clicking noise and my headlights where blinking. Once that stopped I was able to unlock my car and then my car wouldn't start and the anti theft lock light shows up on my dash board took me about 15 minutes to start my car my check engine goes on and off also. I checked on line and have read that Chevrolet owners have been having the same problem. I've done my best to take care of my car and its not an old car with alot of miles on it. I've already had to pay to change a sensor on it and now this before something really bad happens . I'm regretting having my dad cosign for my Malibu.
When attempting to start my son's 2002 chevy Malibu the anti-theft light came on, and the car would crank but not start. I looked online and found that this is a common pass lock sensor issue. The key needs to be in the on position for at least 10 minutes (until the anti-theft light goes off), then turn the key to the off position, take the key out, then put the key back in, and it will start. This is a known issue and can be referenced on numerous online sites, so there is no reason this should not be a recall issue. Mechanics will tell you it is the fuel pump, fuel lines, or the ignition, and you can spend a great deal of money without solving the issue. At $300-$450 (estimates) you can have the ignition switch replaced, but this is a known issue and should be on the recall list. I do not want my teenage son stranded for something that gm knows about and should replace.
I tried to start my car yesterday morning after having it only sit for an hour when the car would crank but not start. It seemed as if the car was not getting fuel and less than 3 weeks ago had a new fuel pump fixed on it because of this same issue. As I stated before, the car would crank but not start. I had it towed to the local chevy dealership and they were unable to find anything wrong with the car and had it starting and running every time they tried to diagnose the problem. After doing research online, it appears this is a common problem with chevy Malibu's as it deals with an error in the anti-theft device for the car and deals with the passlock system. This is an inconvenience for owners of chevy Malibu's and is such a common problem it needs to be fixed by the manufacturer or this vehicle.
So when I started the car it wont start and the anti theft sign on the dash board keeps blinking. So I cant start the car and tried locking my car and unlocking and starting again still nothing. I checked the battery and the battery is fine and kept on trying to started it I can see the sign that says the car is locked. For no reason this happened, I came home that night and in the morning it didnt start. So it most likely is the ignition lock cylinder problem from my advise from my mechanic. I read online that it can turn off the car and have to wait an hour then start it back up and this is very dangerous problem to have if this security anti theft system fails out of no where. Also I checked my key for damage and still doesnt work. But this will most likely cost me $300-500 for a simple issue.

In the middle of driving the anti-theft system activates. The light for it comes on, my locks lock, and I cannot accelerate. This happened a few times over the course of a month and is now very frequent. I loose the ability to accelerate. This is very dangerous. It happens while on the interstate or when going slower. Once I also lost power steering. I have taken it to the dealership just to be told no codes were noted. From speaking to other Malibu owners this is all to frequent of an issue.
Anti theft passlock system, 2001 chevy Malibu. Locked me out for 3 time and will not allow me to start my car. 6 months ago had ignition switch changed out worked fine untill repeated times being locked, won't start no matter how many times it is put through relearned cycle. Now may loose my job, can not go to work for days now.
While driving on the freeway, my car just shut off. I managed to put in in neutral and restart the car after a long attempt to do so. I ended up repeating the process again within a few minutes, but since we were so far from an exit we continued to drive slowly in the right lane until we reached an exit while leaving our hazard lights on. The car has now continued to seemingly randomly repeat the process at odd times with significant intervals between each episode. I have also had a tremendous amount of trouble with the vehicles anti theft system prohibiting the car from starting. Now the car has also begun to struggle to start at random times. Sometimes the car starts just fine, at others, it struggles or takes several long attempts to start, if it even will. The battery, alternator, and fuses are all good. The check engine light comes on sometimes and when it is the code just reads a communication error which seems useless to the garage. I am not comfortable with my pregnant wife driving the car. I am concerned that it will breakdown, not start, or worse, shut off while she is on the freeway and then not be able to control the car without power steering.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated when attempting to park, the engine stalled as the anti-theft warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where the pass lock sensor and the ignition switch were replaced. The dealer was notified of the problem and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The vehicle had been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
Car wouldn't start at shopping center, had it towed 50. 00. Mechanic said it stared right up, nothing wrong. 6 months later, after work, car wouldn't start again 50. 00 tow. Mechanic said car computer issue 1,000 fix! 2 months later same issue when leaving for work, towed again 50. 00! 500. 00 later I figure maybe more people are having the same problem so I got online and found out it's an anti theft/not recognizing key issue. We shouldn¿t have to pay that much money to try to fix an issue that is known about and not recalled because not enough people have died!.
2007 Malibu lt just shut off at traffic intersection, engine turns over but refuses to start. Then it started up after a few minutes like there was never a problem. There are no fault codes, no warnings, nothing to suggest anti-theft. What is causing this???!!! this has happened to me and my daughter dozens of times in the last 5 years. I've searched online and there are way too many unhappy people with same exact problem! has there been a recall yet on this obvious defect? my 17 yr old daughter has to drive this car and it has quit on her in traffic several times and I am afraid it's going to happen to her and cause an accident. If she gets injured, or worse because Chevrolet refuses to recall and fix this defect there will be a lawsuit and a big one!.
Started having problems starting my car, theft light would come on and I would have to sit and wait to get the car started, very annoying problem having to play a waiting came to start your car. Then one day I was driving and the car just shut off in the middle of the high way, I had no idea the car was even off until I tried to acclerate or turn because the radio remains on. Have to stop and put my hazzards on and start the car again, some days it does repeat stalls which causes me to almost get hit by cars behind me (very very dangerous), some days it drives fine. Then one day while shutting my car off and returning home the horn started honking and would not turn off for about a 1/2 hour, and after that it hasnt worked again. Took the car in to the shop because im fed up and they said it is all linked to a faulty pass key/anti theft system that causes these electrical problems. Did some research and noticed this is and has been a reaccuring problem in the Malibu's.
Without warning or any sort of pattern to it, the anti-theft passlock system on my 2005 Malibu randomly is triggered and prevents my car engine from starting up, leaving me stranded. I must perform 10-minute reset procedure with key in on position. Has left me in dangerous situations many times. Happens every 3-4 times I start the car - no way to predict it. Mechanics have no idea what's wrong. I have no other keys or heavy items on my key ring. Sometimes car starts fine, other times it won't. Started in 2013 and been happening on and off ever since. Googled and many owners are having exact same problem. . Read more...
On at least 10 occasions over the past 10 years when attempting to start the vehicle the anti-theft passlock system will activate for no apparent reason, which disables the ability to start the engine by cutting off the fuel. If I turn the ignition key to on position and wait for 10 minutes, then turn the key to the off position and then attempt to start the engine it will startup successfully. This is very annoying and potentially dangerous when it happens while parked in dark parking lots late at night or operating the vehicle in very cold weather. This problem has been reported by tens of thousands of gm owners over the past several years. Why hasn't gm been forced to repair the problem.
The car would randomly stop running. This could happen while on the highway or when the car was in motion. Daughter was caught a couple of time in the situation. No power steering of brakes. Could have had a fatal accident. If you look at this car and other gm cars, there have been a lot of complaints, the problem lies with the pass lock system (anti theft). The car thinks that its the wrong key and kills the ignition. I found a work around online. Which involves wiring a resistor into the ignition system. . . . The car has been fine since.
My 1999 Chevrolet Malibu takes 10 minutes to start after the anti-theft light starts blinking when I try to start my car. Sometimes it takes 2 tries to get the car started(20min). It occurs randomly, but frequently. It has occured 7 times in the last 3 days. It makes me late for work, even when I plan ahead to leave early, and makes me feel very unsafe. I have not replaced anything, as online research has shown me the problem is expensive and will return eventually, even after being fixed. Please hold gm responsible for this error on their part.

I own a 2003 chevy Malibu with the passlock anti-theft system. Over the past 2 1/2 years I have been stranded 6 times and have paid hundreds of dollars due to my car failing to start at any given moment. The scariest incident of all happened as I was driving with my children and lost all power steering as it started to stall out. As of now, may 6, 2011, it is again sitting at the shop unable to start. The turn the key to on, wait 10 minutes trick, doesn't even work any longer.
The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact was driving approximately between 5 to 10 mph and encountered several speed bumps in the roadway. Immediately after driving over the speed bumps the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle would not restart and was towed to his residence. The contact stated that the failure was contributed to the anti-theft path lock. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 150,000.

I have had several issues with my car over the years. The first was when the fuel pump failed and my car stalled in traffic in 2006 and repair was $600. The intake manifold gaskets failed about 10 months later that was repaired at the dealer for $1200. I have replaced the engine twice ($600 each time) because of the head gaskets and too much oil inside the engine. Now I have a strong odor of gasoline inside my car when I start it up that lasts for about 15-20 minutes each day. I've replaced the ignition switch twice now and the gear shift does not lock properly. Now anti theft security light comes on often and I have to wait approximately 11 minutes to reset it before I can leave my location. The hood latch recently broke and now the wire must be replaced from the inside to the exterior of the car.
2002 Chevrolet Malibu anti-theft system frequently prevents me from starting the car.
My car is part of the gm recall #14350. My car specifically has problems with the pass lock anti-theft system allowing the car to be started. Several years ago I took it to superior Chevrolet and at that time they told me the pass lock was an ongoing issue. They could fix it but it would not stay fixed. I paid over 500. 00 dollars and they replaced the ignition cylinder. 2 or 3 years later. Same problem. I contacted gm and was instructed to again return to a dealer and they would take care of the fix. I took my car to tom gill Chevrolet. They performed diagonostic and informed me the pass lock was the problem and for another 500. 00 dollars they could repair it. I was under the impression gm was going to pay for repair. They said the gm representive declined the repairs. I then took my car to an authorized service center and had it rechecked. Again the diagonostic was the pass lock system. At that time the ignition cylinder was replaced again to the tune of 500. 00. I just received my recall letter and I called jeff wyler florence Buick GMC to schedual repairs. I ask what was going to be the solution and if the reapir would fix the pass lock system anti-theft. They said no. If I wanted that fixed it was 94. 50. For a new diagonostic plus parts. Really. I need the anit-theft pass lock system fixed in my car. That should have been part of the recall. Waiting to hear some good news. Please. My car now has 92,000 miles on it. I typicall have to walk to or from work because it will not start when I need it to. Pass lock shuts off the fuel and you have to wait until it resets. Please help with this. Thanks.
