Air Bag On-off Switch Problems of Chevrolet Malibu

The car is not functioning right I am having major problems such as my manufacturing control my battery light it's constantly going on and off it is draining my alternator I have just recently switched out the throttle body and it was still giving me minor problems such as a back rear end passenger tire well I don't technically think that it was the tire because it makes a loud rocking noise haven't quite just found out the problem I have checked out every other thing that I could think about to my vehicle 2006 chevy Malibu that is but I myself continue to work on it and half of the time it still shuts down or won't comply right and one more other thing my abs system takes a 60% fuse but the abs still comes on with the fuse in and with it out and I am having a major problem with my traction control sensor but now so far my car is just down and not drivable and one more thing my car was driving during the shutdown system on the city streets.

I have had multiple ignition switch failures resulting in loss of airbag systems, the engine not shutting off when the key is removed, the battery dying, a brand new battery started smoking and leaking acid due to a 3rd faulty ignition switch. The issue can be spotty but indefinitely becomes more prevalent as whatever short in the switch gets worse. This is also across multiple switch manufacturers including bwd, ac delco and bmg. I have also noticed that the airbag system may remain on even with the vehicle off and, the battery drainage is much more prevalent when the airbag stays either in the on or off position with the vehicle off. The other issue this causes is the airbag system to completely go off line in which case the airbag warning light will go off but this usually resolves itself after 2 to 10 starts.

Ignition staying stuck alowing starter to continue to turn, day time no break lights , night time break lights stay lit up or flash on and off , fuel gauge drops to empty even when full bounces back and forth empty full , service air bag and check engine lights keep coming on even after they have been reset, cruise control will not engage , hard time to take car out of park even with brake depressed, lower gears on transmission will not engage into 3,2,1 speed, driver seat bracket broke in weld causing seat to be unstable, faulty ignition switch and more this car has less than 150 k on it 148 and some change,,, air bag service light keeps coming on as well as check engine light, this car will not pass any state inspection , and even states with out inspection would advise that the car be recalled.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when key was introduced in the ignition switch the frontal driver side airbag deployed. The vehicle was driven to a hospital. The driver arm was burned and injuries to his stomach. Treated and released. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000. Bp.

My check engine light has been coming on and giving me problems. Just took it in to my car repair they said now its shows air bag error also. They want to change out the ignition switch. This car has had nothing but trouble with only 66 thousand miles! now the air bags probably wont work when needed. I want this fixed on the ignition recall. Every time I pull up to my home after driving this car I am just waiting for it to start on fire as nothing seems to work like it should.

I have a 2005 chevy Malibu it has all of the symptoms as the recall for the ignition switch, the power steering gose out when it wants to, it shuts off sometimes when you come to a stop and the air bag light is on, it has not occured since we put the key on a ring by itself, but they won"t honor it says it's not on the list but the 2005 Malibu maxx is on the list! the maxx is the same car but with a hatchback instead of a trunk, can u please look into this and tell me what if anything can I do?.

Complained quite a few times to the dealership about the airbag light coming on and going off. First time we took it in at 35k miles they replaced the airbag harness. About 6 months pass and the airbag light comes on again, along with check engine light, traction control light, car runs ruff, so they come out with a broken fuel injection wire, a bad airbag cable connection and a bill for the repairs. Now the airbag light comes on and off as you drive. Its due in for the already brake switch recall so we let them know that the airbag light comes on and goes off. Three hours pass and here comes the counter worker with a $1500. 00 parts bill for the replacement of side airbags dash airbags and the sensors. . . I will never buy a new car again. Rftbj. /.

My 2012 chevy Malibu has a problem with the passenger air bag system. At random times the passenger airbag off light will turn on when the seat is occupied (by someone >120 lbs) also at the same time if the passenger unbuckles the seat belt the seat belt warning light does not come on. I have several videos of this failure while sitting still and while driving. Dealer replaced the passenger sensing sensor and control module. This has not fixed the problem. Dealer said because the passenger sits with one leg tucked under the other that this is the cause. Not buying it because it does not always fail like that. We have duplicated the problem at the dealership with the service adviser and the technician. I can get the system to reset by cycling the key to off and then restart the car. This is not the fix just the patch. Sometimes the problem happens when using the remote start and the passenger gets in before the key is turned in the ignition switch. I have been in contact with gm about this.

Air bag readiness light in the instrument panel comes on and off. Vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to be serviced. Authorized dealer informed me that parts were modified since the original parts were unserviceable. Airbag coil bracket and switch were modified and installed.

2003 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to ignition switch recall, steering and airbag malfunctions. The consumer was involved in an accident on may 19, 2011. She lost control of the steering which sent the vehicle in the opposite lane hitting another car. Her vehicle went out of control and ended up going backwards into a sign and then hitting two parked vehicles in a parking lot. The air bag did not deploy until after she hit the sign. The consumer stated she was unaware there was a problem with ignition switch. She stated she had several keys on her ring at the time of the accident.

My vehicle stalled on rairoad track-when it hit the jarring --between the pavement and the tracks---the train was at a great distance---so the engineer stated---when they were 2078 feet from my Chevrolet Malibu -2005---they started to blow whistle----when I saw tghe train at a great distance -and yes I did have heavy things on my keychain--but gm failed to notify -I have a mailbox and a telephone--I was hitting the gas pedal over and over again and when I was doing that I remember hitting the ignition switch but the car was already dead-I was impacted and almost lost my life---it took me 3 years to recoperate----I did not know about the recall--and they started the recall in 2014--cover up gm--you should have startedit in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there are 26 photos -but not in my posession I will attempt to obtain them----.

My 4 year old son was in the vehicle with me helping to clean out the car when he was able to put the car into drive without any keys or anything. Luckily, I was in the car and was able to get the car back into park but only after it hit a fence and damaged the vehicle because of this issue. I am able to put the vehicle into drive while the car was not running and there were no keys in it. There have also been several instances where I was able to leave it in drive after turning the car off and taking the keys out. It will also allow you to put the vehicle into drive without pressing the brake first. There have been several computer related issues that have also began to happen such as the gas gauge not working properly. It says that I am on empty when in fact the tank is full. The air bag indicator switches back and forth from on to off so I never know if my air bag is actually on or off. All of these issues occur on a daily basis. No repairs have been made to the vehicle.

My 2006 Chevrolet Malibu's airbags did not function in two separate hard-hitting crashes. The car's engine light often comes on and stays on until I drive over a large bump in the road or slam on my brakes to give it a jolt. I also smell fuel periodically. The horn has not worked for many years. I took my car to a dealer once with the request to replace my ignition switch because it gets stuck intermittently, and they strangely refused to replace it because "it isn't malfunctioning for us. " this was before the recalls became public. They did repair the "high tone" horn but it stopped working within a few months. I believe I have a dangerous vehicle.
