Front Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

The owns a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact was driving 10 mph when the front passenger air bags deployed without warning. The contact suffered minor cuts and burns as a result and had to seek medical treatment. The contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was 93,000.

Was driving about 30 mph and traffic stopped. I applied the brakes and the car failed to slow resulting in a three car accident.

Driving 30 mph down a country road. Drove over black ice started to fishtail. Lost control of the vehicle going into three 360's. In the fourth 360 I hit a tree head on causing total damage to the front of the car. Slid along a barbedwire fence for the back end to hit the tree again and wrapping the car around the tree. The tree then fell on top of the car.

I was driving on 91s in hartford CT. I had just gotten on the highway and moved into the second lane. It was raining and I hydroplaned. I went into a 360 and at the 180 point I hit the cement divider head on. I continued in the 360 and as I came about again I hit the metal guardrail, again, head on and went into another 360. There was no airbag deployment at all and my seatbelt didn't lock up which caused my face and upper torso to hit the steering wheel. I lost teeth and was injured on my upper torso and neck. I called chevy and was told to take pics of car and send them . I did so and still have the pics and the car. Chevy sent a "tech" out to do "tests". The tech showed up not only an hour and a half late but without the proper equipment to do the tests and wound up borrowing certain things from my neighbor. I waited 3+ months to hear from chevy. I received a letter stating that they take no responsibility. , and that the tests said it was under the threshold if when an airbag should deploy. Included with the letter was a "copy of the test" which was/is absolutely incomprehensible to me. There was no explanation of anything this "test" said. But chevy takes no responsibility at all. If needed I will forward all pics and the letter from chevy as well.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu maxx. While driving approximately 69 mph in the rain, the vehicle approached a puddle and hydroplaned. The vehicle struck the median and spun out beginning on the driver's side. Neither front air bags deployed. The contact and driver sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was totally destroyed. The current and failure mileages were 48,000.

I purchased two 2005 chevy Malibus - one lt and one LS. In February 2008 my daughter was driving the LS and rearended me into the car in front of me. I was at a dead stop and it propelled me 4 feet before I slammed into the car infront of me. She went up my bumper and into my trunk and no airbags in her Malibu or mine were deployed. In July 2008 she was driving the lt and rolled the car two times at 55 mph and none of the 6 airbags deployed that time either. The first accident caused $8,000 damage to her car and $ 10,000 to mine yet no airbags. The second accident the car was a total loss and no airbags.

Tl *- the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu max. The contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a crash and was hit by another vehicle on the passenger front side and the front end was pushed through an intersection into a utility pole. The contact stated that the vehicle was traveling at 20-25 mph. Upon impact, none of the air bags deployed. The contact stated that no one was in the front passenger seat. The current and failure mileage were 17265. The consumer then hit a pole. Updated 03/07/07.

I was driving southbound on state rd. 1 after work at approximately 10:15 p. M. I crossed railroad tracks at about 32 mph and both of my airbags inadvertently discharged. This forced my rear view mirror into the windshield and cracked the windshield. Also my dashboard lights are now acting erratically and functions fail to work properly. The shock of the railroad tracks is much less than that of a speed bump at 3 mph. G. M. Has failed to send anyone to inspect the vehicle even after letting it sit at a dealership for 7 days because they originally stated they would. G. M. Two different dealerships have inspected the vehicle extensively on several occasions and both were unable to determine the cause of the deployment. I have contacted g. M. Several times and they are brushing this off like it is nothing to worry about.

While driving the contact's daughter ran upon the curbing along the side of the road. She then over corrected and ran into an embankment head on, and the vehicle flipped twice. Upon impact, neither front air bags deployed. The driver sustained I shoulder injuries , but the passenger was fine. The weather conditions were normal and not considered as a cause of the accident. A police report was taken at the scene . The insurance company deemed the vehicle not repairable.

Consumer air bags deployed at speed of 5 mph seat belts also malfunctioned. After the accident, the police officer noticed the seat belt did not lock when pulled quickly. The police officer stated he could see no reason why the air bag should have deployed due to the damage being minor.

My son used my new chev 2005 Malibu LS and was in a car accident. This accident occurred on the highway he lost control of the car and hit the guard rail and the front end crashed into the ground smashing the whole front end and the air bags never went off. Thank god he and his cousin were not killed. I thought the air bags were to work when you hit the front end of your car?.

Air bags deployed without warning both drivers and passengers sides while caller was turning a corner at 10 mph. Dealer and manufacturer have not been contacted yet.

Consumer states: the air bags didn't deploy during a wreck. Got hit from the front, and hit a truck in the back. The hood and fender bent. Speed may have been 55- 60 mph.

Small bump accident air bags are suppose to be for moderate to heavy frontal accidents. Yet the air bags deployed on my vehicle when my daughter had a accident where she barley bumped the vehicle ahead of her. There was no damage to either vehicle except the air bags. In fact, she was injured more by the bags (she was dazed and had a head ache) then the bump. If it had not been for the air bags deploying there would have been no damage of any kind. If air bags are for moderate and worse accidents why are they deploying on a slight impact accident?.

Both frontal air bags deployed inadvertently while reversing. This resulted in lower face and neck injuries to the driver upon impact. Dealership could not indicate what caused the failure, but just wanted to repair it.

I was involved in an accident in my 2003 Chevrolet, Malibu on Dec. 26, 2004 and my front airbags did not go off.

I was involved in a minor low impact collision and the airbags deployed without inflating which offered absolutely no protection.

While entering a on ramp at 25-40 mph consumer collided into the rear of another vehicle stalled at the end of ramp. Seat belts were worn by the consumer, but none of the airbags deployed. There were no personal injuries, although there was damage to the vehicles. Police did arrive on the scene and no citations were issued.

Consumer stated that when making a turn front air bags inadvertently deployed, causing the consumer to pull over. Dealer notified.

While driving at 35 mph, the consumer hit a pot hole and then she lost control of the vehicle. The front end of the vehicle impacted a ditch and then the vehicle bounced onto a field. None of the front air bags deployed upon impact. Consumer fractured her back.

While driving the air bag deployed although there was no impact.

The frontal air bags deployed, when the vehicle hit a curb.

The vehicle was involved in a head on collision yet none of the air bags deployed. The dealer was notified.

While driving at 35mph consumer was involved in a frontal collision and neither of the air bags deployed. The vehicle was rendered a total loss. The appraiser stopped when repairs estimated exceeded $6700. 00.

Consumer states while traveling at 25 mph. Consumer states' hit a patch in the road and vehicle hydroplaned into a metal and concreted barrier. Consumer states none of the vehicles airbags deployed. Please describe further. Ts.

In a frontal collison none of air bags deployed on impact.

While running into another vehicle at about 2-5 mph front air bags deployed, cut the glass, and hit consumer.
