Front Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Malibu - part 2

Consumer's vehicle was sitting at an intersection behind another vehicle and consumer thought vehicle was moving. She lifted feet off brakes, hitting vehicle in front. Upon impact, airbags did deploy, but halfway. There was no damage to the outside of the vehicle, consumer smelled smoke coming from air bags. Dealership was aware of problem.

While driving 20-25 mph rearended another vehicle. Upon impact, neither airbag deployed, driver hit head on the steering wheel. Damage to vehicle was $ 3600.

While driving and without a collision occurring driver's and passenger's air bags deployed, cause unknown. Consumer states the days previous to the deployment of the airbags, the electrical system gave signs that it was not working properly, the alarm was going off for no reason, consumer was injured.

Problem with rotors,took to dealer 4 times. Then, front crash at 60mph, applied brakes, pedal went to floor and vehicle only slowed 10 mph. Rear ended another vehicle. Neither airabag deployed. Dealer replaced brake master cylinder, said it had internal defect.

My wife and son were involved in a motor vehicle accident 08/31/2000,with another vehicle at an intersection. Where our vehicle was traveling at approximately 5 miles per hour,when it was hit in the front center of our vehicle by a Ford explorer that was traveling at approx 35 m. P. H according to the driver and police report. The air-bags on my vehicle did not deploy,I would like something done about this. I am in the automobile business,I have seen vehicles involved in accidents not as bad as mine was and the air-bags did there job properly. My wife contacted the purchasing dealers service dept. And she was advised that the bags would not deploy unles the impact was atleast 35m. P. H. Which it was. I then look in the owners manual and it said the impact should be between 9-14m. P. H. . I was told by an attorney that nothing could be done unless it would have taken my wife's life or my son's life, who is 18months old,who was in his car seat in the back seat. I would like a response to this because I have a friend who purchased the same kind of vehicle at the same time we purchased this one,they have 2 young kids. I'm concerned about the safety of other people that Malibu's.

Vehicle rear-ended another vehicle at 35 mph in which neither air bag deployed. Driver's seat came unlatched & driver received injury to right hand & right breast. Manufacturer notified. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

I purchased the vehicle from bobb chevy in 11/99, in April 2000 noticed a grinding noise when braking. Took car into a tuffy auto shop who indicated I needed complete brake job. They suggested warranty should cover vehicle repairs. So I took it to bobb at 7:30 am on 4/27/00, they completed brake job - rotors, calipers, fluid, pads and labor. This totalled $817. 01, I paid $496. 12, warranty paid the balance. On 5/17/00, coming home from work on a service road I tried to apply my brakes and found I did not have any - this was 3 wks after a total replacement. I had the option to go into an intersection, or hit a car stopped at the stop sign, but I chose to run off the road, hoping that would have stopped me. I hit a pine tree, both air bags popped out, windshield cracked, subsequently my insurance company - geico totalled the car. I suffered severe bruises, ended up in emergency, ordered to take 2 days off work for bruises, severely sprained ankle, bruises on chest & stomach from seatbelt and airbag. I have contacted the dealership, given them geico's report and police report. They suggested I contact product liability dept of Chevrolet. At this time someone from gm product asst is to contact me.

Consumer was traveling 40-45 mph and steering wheel locked up. Consumer couldn't straighten out wheel & vehicle spun around & hit concrete wall. Also, airbag didn't deploy until about a minute after vehicle had hit concrete wall.

Consumer suffered an eye injury from a later deploying airbag, while sitting in the front passenger seat. (attorney kevin o'dell on behalf of client).

While vehicle was parked overnight owner found the driver's and passenger's airbags deployed without any frontal impact. Dealer inspected vehicle, and said it was an undercarriage impact that caused the deployment. But vehicle itself was not involved in any impacts. Please provide further information.

Was driving approximately 10mph, attempted to turn off the road into a gas station. Upon approaching the entrance to gas station, both air bags deployed without warning.

Automobile went into a trench and bottomed out, and the air bags deployed, causing the engine carriage to be damaged/cracked the windshield, and damaged the dashboard.

While parking in a parking space driver pulled out to make sure vehicle was in correctly and bumped the barrier, air bags deployed, causing some scratches to driver's right arm.

Consumer bought the vehicle two weeks ago. And he received a recall notice that was issued in July.

Went over dip in road about 2. 5 inches . Went about 4 feet, frame under car hit a manhole cover sticking up about 2inches. Both airbags deployed ,breaking drivers arm the passenger only had buring in her eyes.

While driving 70 mph owner suddenly heard a snapping sound from rear. Rear left tire separated from spindle, causing vehicle to spin out. Vehicle did strike center divider. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed. Please describe details.

While driving forward at 5mph the vehicle stopped and airbag deployed. Dealer said the inner tie rod had broken.

While the vehicle was being shifted into park the vehicles front airbags deployed.
