Warning Light On Problems of Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

Car has 23,800 miles on it and the service airbag warning light has come up on the dashboard and doesn't go off. Diagnostic is not pulling any code. Monthly diagnostic report from gm says there is no problem. Have seen other complaints about this issue.

My airbag warning light won't go away, I need this VIN # 1g11b5sa7df252714 on the recall list for air bags.

On most of the 2013 chevy Malibu the air bag has been recalled my car has had the airbag warning light on since I purchased my 2013. I don't feel safe and when I called chevy directly they told me to just keep checking my VIN # should be on the recall for the air bag soon. It's still not showing up. I keep getting a warning low engine power, some one said don't drive a car that says this.

My power steering goes out randomly. I can be parked it goes out, I can have my foot on the brakibg while in drive , it goes out. I can be driving anywhere and it goes out. The air bag light comes on randomly. And then my esc warning light comes on as well. In all of these instances it's all random when it happens. On 10/13/2018 m y power steering went out that is the most recent incident.

Takata recall the service tech at the dealership said the airbag could deploy while driving causing my daughter to be in danger at all times. Airbag warning light stayed on even after replacing the airbag.

Air bar warning light and tire sensor warning lite both came on at the same time. Took vehicle to dealer and was advised that that the drivers side air bag was faulty.

A few weeks ago my wife was driving here 2008 Malibu and she smelled a slight burning and very strong chemical odor in the car, shortly after that the service warning light came on for the air bag system. Windows had to be opened for the remainder of the 30 minute trip. Sometime later my wife removed something from the front passenger seat and notice a color change to circular pale yellow with a central charred mark in part of the cover material, upon touching seat cover material disintegrated and disappeared into the seat. A picture is attached of the passenger seat. Later I investigated the service light and found b0081 symptom 71 was set. I believe the seat sensor shorted out causing the seat cover and foam to smolder possibly on its way to an open flame before the power source failed. The VIN number 1g1zj57b18f205076. A copy of this letter will also be send to the NHTSA.

My "service air bags" light kept coming on and then remaining on continually. I found a letter written by the director of customer & relationship services at chevy back in 2010 that addressed this problem and stated that "to enhance side impact protection, your gm dealers will update the wiring harness for both front seat side impact airbags. This service will be performed for you at no charge. " I contacted the dealer at messer chevy in lubbock, TX, and also customer service at chevy. I opened up case #8-2314213550 on 8/19/16, and I was told to get a diagnostics done at the dealer, which I did. I then found out the case had been arbitrarily closed the same day it was opened! now Chevrolet states that the case was reopened on 9/7/16. I just want the problem fixed free of charge since the previous owner should have taken care of this when chevy was offering the "soft recall" repair at no charge. Chevy called it a customer satisfaction program at the time to avoid an airbag recall media hype. I assume this isn't related to any takata airbag problem, but it is a potential safety hazard! I am getting the runaround from both Chevrolet and the dealer, and I just the problem resolved. The dealer turned off the warning light, but no repairs have been done to date!.

While on a trip the passenger air bag warning light came on while driving on highways while on vacation. This happened in may 2016 and also may 2015 while on vacation. I checked on line and it states the air bag is disabled when the learning light comes on. On line it stated back in 2004-up through 2012 they had several complaints on this, they found a problem with the wiring harness and had to do upgrade called a soft recall. I called on star and asked about recalls regarding the warning light for air bag, they said no recall on that. I requested a case be opened on 6-2-2016 and have not heard anything. Why would this warning light come on for a week every may? we do several miles of traveling mostly less than 300 one way trips yet it has only come on in may. I called my local dealership and they said no recall on that warning light either. Previously I had a 2009 Malibu which I purchased mainly because of the safety of all the airbags. If I or may passenger is in danger at any time with the airbag disabled it's not safe, period.
