We are having a problem with the battery dying intermittently. We have had the car since 04/11. Since we have purchased the car we have had to replace the battery 3 different times, each time we have had to replace the battery we take it to the shop and let them test the battery and there is always a dead cell in the battery. The battery is only lasting from 4 to 6 months we have had the car in the garage and no one can figure out what is going on. I have noticed that there have been other complaints also. We also had the same power steering issue as every one else while we were on vacation in tennessee, but we were very lucky that the dealer we took our car to new of the issues and new that there was a clause you might say about this vehicle and we were able to get the car repaired free of charge.

Made a transponder key, parts person at the gm dealership just started the engine with it and said it was already programed. ( he just tested to see if the key will start the engine. ) when got home with original key and turned off the engine I tried to secure car with the remote and it did not work. Tried original key to start car everything was dead including battery. Disconnect and reconnect battery, now the security light does not come on, car can't start, there is nothing only the lights on dash with other icons. I don't know if the chip key that was made cause the system to fail. I hate to have to tow the car cause I know the dealer would charge me an arm and a leg. I hate to get the parts person in trouble. Is there someone on line can help solve this problem?.
Randomly while driving at higher speeds or accelerating the battery light will flicker on and off on the dashboard. This time while accelerating on a entrance ramp to the highway the battery light along with all the idiot lights on the dashboard flashed and I temporarily lost power steering. This happened twice within a period of two minutes. Normally whenever the battery lights or other idiot lights flicker a chime is heard. This is kind of scary since it seems like this is a common problem and tends to happen at higher speeds.
Complete and total lock up of power setaring; battery light flicks on and then everything locks up until you relace the gas peddle for about 3 seconds. My lights randomly flash and rear bulbs on the driver side blow every 3 days. My turn signals will spraticaly blink and the wiper blades go off with out warning or being prompted. Even with no keys near or in the car it will not turn over to start the car until you floor the gas peddle and hold it there for 3-5 seconds. My raido reads at - all the time and the cd player has never worked correctly. When going from 0 to 50 getting on the parkway (highway) the whole car locks up and loses power including the stearing radio and lights unless you completely relese the gas then start to go again. Im so highly frustraited and chevy refuses to fix it even though these are all recalled problems but my VIN doesnt fall in there "bracket".

Since purchasing the vehicle (used), there have been more than 12 instances where the car cuts out while driving. This has occurred at speeds as high as 55 mph. There is a total loss of power and the car must be brought to a rolling stop outside of the traffic flow. Also, there have been weekly instances of the car failing to start. This has since increased to daily. The key will only start the ignition when the dash lights (battery, oil, etc) are on, and they are on and off completely at random. Sometimes I have to wait up to 10 minutes with the key partially turned before the lights come on and I can turn it the rest of the way and start the car. The other electrical issue that has happened is that the blower fan has gone on and off and the power windows have gone on and off.

Own 2002 chevy Malibu. The security interlock kicks in frequently. I have to wait 10 minutes while the car resets, only then may I start the car. (kinda similar to the fuel pump shutting off if a rear end bump occurs-safety). Strangely too, I hear an electrical sizzling sound just over and behind the radio. This is affecting my turn signals from working. I hit the safety flasher button and the sizzling noise stops, and the turn signals may or may not operate. Somehow the radio, the security system, and the turn signals are "wired" together, and the car thinks someone is stealing my radio, causing the security interlock to kick in. That's when I have to turn the key to on, than wait 10 minutes for the security system to reset. Only after 10 minutes may I restart the car (this is in the owners manual). This happens frequently. I think there may be a link in here somewhere the my car battery is draining while the car sits. Something relating to my radio(so it doesn't get stolen), and security system are causing the "no start" interlock to kick in.

I drive my car and it cuts off. Try to start it but cranks no start. Bought new battery no start. Smell fuel. Don't know what it is afraid to drive.
The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact was having the vehicle serviced and when the battery was disconnected, the fuel gauge needle became stuck. The failure occurred twice. A private mechanic was able to repair the vehicle after the first failure. The dealer was contacted about the failure and advised the contact that the failure could have happened due to a spike in voltage when the battery was reconnected with the key left in the run position. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 126,930.

When driving after a rain noticed there was water in right rear taillight. When trying to start the car the only way to get it started was to disconnect the negative battery terminal and reset the computer . Well that was great except you might not want the car started then because everytime you step on the brake the radio shut off, gauges would peg out and not be able to be reset. Then car would die in the middle of highway driving . If it takes the nhsta to have a death for someone I am not the one if it is water the car doesn't like I will send it back to detroit where they can put it in it's final resting place, lake michigan. Let our voices be heard because these small inconveniences to them are major expenses to us all . And they wonder why the car industry is struggling own up to the problem general motors.

Positive post of ac delco battery in a 2000 chevy Malibu failed, resulting in total power loss to vehicle. Research has shown that this is a common problem. Dealer parts person stated that they see this failure often due to battery having a defective seal on the pos. Post. Excessive acid leakage resulted from this failure.
Consumer stated that brake line indicator light did not come on to inform her that she needed brakes or there was a problem with the brakes. She would hear a funny noise sometimes. Then, she took vehicle to the dealer where she purchased vehicle, and after examining the vehicle, was told she needed brakes, and that the calipers on driver's side were going out. They wanted to charge her $140. 00 to turn rotors, and put brakes on the vehicle. She has had the vehicle only one month. Also, consume rgot stranded, and had vehicle to the dealer. Deale rfound that the battery post was corroded, she was told that vehicle needed a new battery.
Front/rear suspension-squawking noise -gm well aware of this issue hazard lights - have gone out twice. Fuel integrity - erratic fuel reading - shows 1/4 tank - when in reality there is no gas. I have ran out of gas approximately 7 times - several times late at night. No cruise control - gm would not repair. Brakes pads/rotors - have replaced 3 times. My local dealer rotolo Chevrolet and gm customer service would do nothing. It was expensive. Premature tire wear - two sets of tires. Cars runs hot - would never go on a trip - because it would get too near overheating. I was afraid of getting stranded in the middle of the desert. Engine ticking noise - local dealer said this was normal. Now, I find none of these things were normal and many, many more car owners have experienced the same type of problems. Also, I had a battery that exploded while car was under warranty. It was my problem. Dealership would not replace battery. I finally had enough and turned this automobile back to gmac. Is it going to take people getting killed to make gm responsible for these issues with the 2000 Malibu. All of these problems were reported to the dealer, but since nothing could be duplicated, even though gm was aware of these issues, they would do nothing. After the car was out of warranty, the dealership was more than willing to correct these issues. The problem I have is the deception. . . . . Gm is aware of these issues and have been for some time. Someone needs to hold then accountable.
I have replaced a battery twice. I bought my 1998 Malibu used. The first time we were able to keep jumping it, to get it were I needed to go. Found out the positive charge was broken from battery. Six month's later on January 19. My abs light comes on and I lose all power on snow and ice. Luckily I was able to keep control of my car and get it stopped. If there would be a been another car coming towards me I would have hit them head on. I had it towed the following day, and they said my battery was leaking acid and my timing belt was breaking. I have only had my car a year and I bought it from a dealership. What's causing the battery to leak acid? I am scared to death it will happen again and next time I won't be so lucky.

I too, have many of the problems that other Malibu owners have. My turn signals work intermittently, the brakes have been replaced 2x, in addition to rotors, etc. The battery blew up, but was replaced as was the ac turning off and on by itself. The one issue that is very concerning to me, is one familiar to you. My car cuts off at anytime while driving. It has done this to me on 2 separate occasions. Nashville has 3 interstates running through it and I was on them both times this happened. It was very scary and dangerous. It is out of warranty and the shops that I have taken it to cannot replicate the problem. The mechanics at then shops told me that Malibu's are by far some of the most troublesome cars on the road today. Someone is going to be killed. You lose control and have no steering ability, what does it take to fix the problem. I can see from others that their problems are being ignored as well. When will gm acknowledge the problem. Don't they watch the news and see what happened with the firestone recall, or the tobacco companies that kept secrets? it is time for someone to be responsible for their product.
Numerous problems: brakes made noise when applied, vehicle jerked when at a complete stop, the vehicle shut down on the consumer three times, it started loud and hard, bounced while being driven and a bolt fell off from under the passenger seat, however the dealer stated the bolt did not belong to the vehicle. Also the rear passenger window was inoperative, and the battery was weak.
Brakes failed for the 2nd time accident occurred have not had car for 3 weeks, have been waiting for gm to send inspector. Car is out of service for more than 15 days and gm has exhausted the time limit for action. I do not want this "death trap" (car) back. I also want to be credited for lease payments. I should not have to pay for manufacturer defects.

Original battery - ac delco, positive prong rotted without notice! car is only 2 years old. Car shut off without warning just as I went to pull out of parking space. Battery light is still bright green!.
Positive post on battery leaked battery acid. Not charging properly. Informed by service technician at the dealer that this is a fairly common occurence for acdelco batteries. Was also told I was lucky to have been able to drive it in to the dealer- they often times will die while running or will not start at all. Battery was replaced under warranty, but with another acdelco product.

While driving on road over 45mph vehicle will sway/won't stay in its lane. Also, factory battery had started melting through the plate/abs light came on when starting vehicle/ upon applying brakes they squeaked, and vehicle won't go in reverse. The transmission failed. The a/c is inoperable. Brakes failed four times.
At less than 3000 miles car started to lose power in acceleration. And transmission started shifting roughly. Has now been to dealership 5 times for the same problem. My children and I have almost gotten ran over by other automobiles numerous times, simply because the car would not go. While the car was in for the 2nd repair of the clock spring they broke the tilt lever and scratched trim on steering column. Tires are wearing unevenly dealer stated this was normal for a Malibu. This car has been nothing but problems since the first day. I have driven more loaner cars than I have my own that I continue to make payments on. Most of the miles on my car has been due to repeated visits to the shop. I am very unhappy with this car, the dealership, the service dept. , and the way gm has handled the case. ( dot number: 93t m + s tire size: p2155or15 ).
Bushings on control arms defective and battery accid leaks.

The coolant was leaking into my engine. I was told the engine block was cracked, after being without my car for 4 days, they told me it was just a gasket leaking. They then "as good citizens" repaired my car under warrenty and charged me $73. 95 for an oil change and fuel filter because these things had to be done while they were investigating the leak. I had just recently had my oil changed. Within the first few months of having my car I noticed serveral problems that I reported to the dealer and was waved off several times. I even rode with a service manager who explained that the ticking in the engine, the whinning my window made when rolling it up or down, the squeeking in the front and back of car were all normal because my car was settling like a house does. These noises and squeeks are normal!!! shortly there after, my wheel bearings were replaced, my window failed to roll up while on my way to work when it began pouring rain. The ticking noise was explained three years later, since the coolant was leaking into my engine. I have replaced break pads, and my rotars and am on my way to replacing both again at 36,000 miles. The ticking noise in my car is still present and now the air conditioner goes out intermittently while driving. I replaced the lamps in my break lights twice before another Malibu owner told me it was a problem in the circuit board. I am not happy with this vehicle and can't wait until I can afford to get rid of it. I will never buy another chevy unless the choose to rectify this situation. After reading the other compliants I now see I am not the only person to ever report the leaking of the coolant and am frustrated since I was told this was never seen before!!!.
