I bought my first car from a small dealership and within the last 35 days the alternator, battery, shocks, fuel pump and now the engine light is on. . . . When you are driving it seems like the car don't want to go into gear. And when it finally goes into gear it jerks you. Also the electrical and temperature gage, the lights on dash board go in and out you can hear a faint noise coming from the dome light. Temperature gage stayed at cold when driving the vehicle around. Took car for a ride the next day and right away when driving it went about a quarter above cold???.

The car is not functioning right I am having major problems such as my manufacturing control my battery light it's constantly going on and off it is draining my alternator I have just recently switched out the throttle body and it was still giving me minor problems such as a back rear end passenger tire well I don't technically think that it was the tire because it makes a loud rocking noise haven't quite just found out the problem I have checked out every other thing that I could think about to my vehicle 2006 chevy Malibu that is but I myself continue to work on it and half of the time it still shuts down or won't comply right and one more other thing my abs system takes a 60% fuse but the abs still comes on with the fuse in and with it out and I am having a major problem with my traction control sensor but now so far my car is just down and not drivable and one more thing my car was driving during the shutdown system on the city streets.

Vehicle needing generator control module and battery cooling fan and variable valve timing replaced.
When vehicle comes to a stop and auto start happens, my radio shuts off. Battery sometimes does not hold charge. Could be the alternator or some kind of electrical misfire or contact. Doesn't happen every time vehicle is started.

I get routine service to my car & my engine is clicking, loudly. The check engine light continuously goes on & off & I was told by Chevrolet service department that they could not even run a diagnostics to see what the problem is because the check engine light was off when I got to the dealership. Sometimes service battery charging system will illuminate but it too picks and chooses when to illuminate. Sometimes it shows battery saver activated and this is the third battery I've purchased! the entire car will stall/shut off but the green light is illuminated to show the car is on but when I accelerate it won't budge! dangerous considering my car could stall at anytime and cause a collision. I've nearly gotten t-boned twice coming out a gas station entering a road because my car stalled in the middle of the street while traffic was coming from both directions! a service man at the chevy dealership asked me was I experiencing issues with my auto start/stop when I told him what was happening. Yes! my car picks and chooses when it wants to do it. And when it does restart the entire car reboots, the locks re-click, lights flicker, it'll be in drive and roll backwards until the ignition turns over! chevy or at least the service techs are fully aware of an issue and won't fix it. Sometimes the car just won't start, all the power will go out. What happens when I'm out & the entire electrical system and engine won't start after at least starting 20 minutes prior! I've already got new pistons, a new alternator, 3 new batteries & get the routine maintenance. I have a mychevy account & every month my diagnostics report, shows an issue! if I'm in an accident & my child or I are injured, who is liable because my car decides to malfunction in the middle of a busy highway? Chevrolet for neglecting to service my car because the freaking check engine light isn't on!.
It's amazing me reading all the complaints about this issue and gm hasn't issues a recall. However, I purchased a 2016 chevy Malibu used about a year ago. Within the year, I've had my acceleration pedal be faulty, my car speed will drastically reduce from 60-70mph to 20-25mph which as I'm sure everyone knows is a safety hazard. Then less than 2 weeks later, the same thing happened but this time it was the alternator. Now not even 2 months later, my stop/start is malfunctioning. If I brake and the car turns off, my start function does not start! I have to shift the car to park, turn the car on, then shift back to drive. All of which is dangerous! obviously, these complaints are not being read or are not being taken serious because I just read multiple complaints similar to this. On top of it all, because of everything I don't feel safe driving a car I paid for! and none of these issues are not my doing yet I'm the one in the dealership paying for it.
When stopping and auto stop kicks on the car shuts down and the check engine light comes on. Then it has to be put in to park and restarted. Turn signals and radio have no sound working and sometimes there is a steering assist warning message appears. I changed my battery several months ago and this has happened to me several times and I've also had the alternator checked and it's fine as well. After turning the vehicle off and restarting the blinker has sound and the radio works. I'm also unable. To use bluetooth services when all the above happens.
When start stop was engaged at light the car shut off everything on the dash and radio went blank. It auto started and ac was no longer working. Afterwards I smelled a slight burning scent (in louisiana traffic, I was unsure it was me) but car ran fine. When start stop engaged there was a longer than normal pause before would auto start would engage. It would intermittently fail to crank on occasion for a few key turns. Engine light came on. Trunk would mysteriously pop open. Started displaying two key fobs programmed, abs stable track, reduced engine power, low battery and another thing I can't remember at start up. I changed the battery and alternator with new ones and the next day the instrument panel flickered as well as head lights. And when I was to take it in to dealership it had complete electrical failure. The dealership said it was the engine fuse block and replaced it. Now the engine light is still on and has a pause before it start. Will not send diagnostics to my chevy app. Remote start is not working with eng light on. I told them I thought is was battery control module but he insisted that it was just the engine fuse block. I cannot explain the anxiety. And have told my family that if I die in that car to sue gm. There should be nothing wrong with this car at 6 years old. 53000 miles and is driven less than 50 miles a week.

The car was having interment electrical issues with the turn signals, and radio going off and on. Now, the radio stopped completely, and the turn signals do not function. I have a low battery after testing. Is this part of the generator module recall?? it is very unsafe for my daughter to drive, as there is nothing lit up on displays anymore.
I purchased a 2013 chevy Malibu 53,000 miles in October of 2018 from bob pulte Chevrolet. The car ran great until almost a year to the date of purchase, at 72,534 miles, issues began. While stopped at a red light, foot on brake, I looked down at the dashboard and noticed the rpm needle had dropped to 0 & the car had stalled. I put the car in park, turned the key off and then back on to start the car. It sounded as if it didn't want to start but ultimately did. I continued driving and it happened again at the next red light. I took the car to the nearest repair shop which was firestone, to have it checked & was told the alternator and battery needed replaced. The following week the car stalled as it had 1st time & then sporadically again and again when I slowed down approaching a red light, stop sign & when pulling into a parking space. Each time the car stalled it was difficult to start again. I took the car to a different firestone for a fresh set of eyes. This time the car stalled when their technician drove the car. A fuel system cleaning was recommended & done. The next suggestion was to replace the throttle body. A few days later, the car stalled again. When the car does stall I would lose power to everything except the radio. The lights shut off, doors stay locked & the car cannot be steered. I next took the car to the bob pulte Chevrolet dealership & discussed the problem with them. After having the car for two days, they advised the car did not stall when they drove it, there were no codes, no check engine light on & without that there was nothing they could do. The next day when I pulled into a parking space at work, the car stalled again. I called bob pulte again-they said they would update the ecm module and reprogram the throttle body and everything that goes along with it - believing firestone was unable to do it. The car continues to stall.
Initially, circa two years ago, had an electrical failure on hard braking - the radio display screen and other electrical shut down, car stalled. After restart, car would only move forward slowly. Eventually this cleared. The car has had a total of ~5 incidents of complete battery drain and consequent failure to start after sitting, even though the alternator previously was spinning, and "battery voltage" reports as somewhere in the 13-14 v range. On three separate repairs, dealer has replaced the aft battery, then the forward battery, then updated flash memory (of battery control? antilock brake control, not sure), per a recall notice affecting other nearby model years. After this, the car went several months without incident, but drained battery and failed to start again this week. It appears that the complex auto stop/start electrical system is flawed in such a way that the local dealer cannot diagnose why the battery keeps draining. Because the forward battery capacity is very large, and usage of the car is low, it takes several months to drain the battery. When the battery is drained, the car no longer functions - power steering, electronics, etc, hence it is a safety issue if it happens while driving.

Generator control module- engine is stalling and completely shutting off when stopped or slowing down at intersection or stopped at lights or stop signs. Switching from hybrid to gas.
2013 Malibu eco eassist there is a recall for this type of car, the car is in the shop and need a generator control module. . According to her VIN # they are saying that it doesn't apply to this vehicle. . But it's the same type of car that the recall is on. The car while running on highway for 50 miles or more will start the loss of battery charging. If you continue to drive the car will cutoff and have to be towed. This has happened on two or three occasions.
Takata recall the lights on my dash kept going in and out while I was driving and while stationary. While my car was off, with no key in the ignition, the gauges would make clicking sounds and bounce up and down about an 8th of an inch. The lights on the dash would stay off for days at a time, making it impossible for me to see how fast I was going or how much gas was in the car. Sometimes the lights would click on for about 30 seconds and then the speedometer would be stuck at the last speed I was going at, for days, without showing anything on the digital speedometer. When I took it to get looked at, no codes were found. My car kept dying while I was driving, went and had my battery and alternator tested and they were 100% fine. Car dash lights started flashing on and off while I was going around a curve. Check engine, oil, wiper fluid, gas light, everything flashed on and off, then my steering locked up, causing me to go off of the road and hit a tree. My car was totaled.
I was stopped, went to accelerate, and sudden hard shift as it accelerated. After a few miles, lost all gears after 2nd gear. On interstate at time when lost gears & close to getting into major accident. Took it to asc certified mechanic to learn that the transmission failed, wiring from battery to started burned up,battery failurem alternator failed, and ecm failed as well. Repair cost approx $4600. 00. Service airbag light & check engine light on also & p0013 code. Looked up veh history, shows recalls on some of this were supposedly performed, but hard to believe. 6 speed transmission, so gm won't honor.

2013 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to faulty generator control moduls. The consimer stated the vehicle should have been included in the recall, but experienced the same failure.
Less than 99,000 miles. . . Radio light flickers off and on. Vehicle goes dead at red light, stop sign or whenever vehicle is not in motion. Took vehicle to dealership and replaced the engine computer module as requested. However, problem still exist but more worse. service power steering light came on while driving on a city street but before I could make a safe turn, it became too tough to steer almost causing an accident. Battery good, alternator good. . No one really knows what's wrong with the vehicle.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle lunged when the accelerator pedal was applied to pick up speed several times as the failure was progressing intermittently as well as a loss of power constantly. The contact had to constantly pull the vehicle over to the side of the road as well as towing the vehicle back to the dealer for further testing and diagnosis under the warranty for servicing. The dealer coyle Chevrolet Buick GMC, 1801 broadway st, clarksville, in 47129, (812) 218-1100 serviced the vehicle under the warranty and after the warranty had expired, they diagnosed and replaced the snl tensioner, snl bolt, snl generator, a/c compressor, flushed the coolant, replaced compressor kit(2) as well as additional repairs which had failure to provide a permanent fix. The vehicle continued to fail to pick up speed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting for a response to determine the technical guidelines to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Alternator bearing is going bad. I have not replaced it yet the car is only two years old alternator should last at least seven years. I also had a new engine put in a few months ago because of the piston cracked. So many issues with the new engine in the 2016 chevy Malibu model.
While vehicle is in drive, the car radio will turn off, power steering is affected (very difficult to turn wheel), lights on dashboard all come on and if backing up the rear camera will not work. Repair shop cant figure out, tested electrical, battery and alternator. Scary lots of others posting very similar problem needs to be addressed!!.
Car would not start, had to replace alternator. One week later same problem, had a mechanic check it now saying its the battery so replaced that. Was starting ok then it wouldn't start so we wiggled key around and it started. Was able to drive several days doing this but then it would not start at all. The mechanic says it is the ignition switch. When I looked this up I see that lots of people having problem with ignition switch. Gm cars are crap!!! I cant afford to fix this I am on very limited budget so my car been siting for over month now. Gm needs to fix for free.

The mechanic states it may be a condition in which the generator control module (gcm) may not function properly. The battery wouldn't hold a charge and then suddenly it was charged and driving as normal, the battery indicator light was on the entire time. They cannot find anything wrong with it now, but stated there was a recall and thinks that is what is wont with my vehicle. Also the stop/start feature is not working at all on the vehicle. It acts like it will cut off intermittently.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle suddenly stopped moving and was unable to change gears to move off the roadway. The failure occurred without warning. An independent mechanic was able to go to the location and serviced the vehicle by replacing the alternator assembly; however, the failures continued. The contact stated that the stability control warning indicator flashed, various other warning indicators and gauges flickered, and the steering wheel became inoperable. Once the warning indicators had gone off, the contact was able to maneuver the steering wheel in either direction; however, the failure was getting progressively worse. The contact also stated that the key was unable to be removed from the ignition. The dealer (vaden of beaufort, 103 robert smalls pkwy, beaufort, SC 29906, (843) 525-4100) was contacted to schedule an diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving at 75 mph, the vehicle warning service battery lights and engine lights indicator illuminated. The vehicle stall. The contact stated the problem recurred eight times in different occasions. The contact stated pulling to the side of the rode when this issue happened. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was taken to dyer Chevrolet ft. Pierce located at (4200 south us highway 1, fort pierce, FL 34982 (772) 461-4800) where it was diagnosed that the generator control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. . The failure mileage was approximately 1,88000. As.
Vehicle was in motion driving on a city street while I was making a left turn onto another city street my steering wheel locked up which enabled me to straighten up my wheel. Due to not being able to straighten up my wheel after steering left I was involved in a car accident knocking off my drivers sides headlight and front bumper completely off of my vehicle. After getting the car back home the car would no longer start. The vehicle is now at capitol cheverolet in austin texas and before replacing the recall parts they insisted on a battery replacement I did replace the battery and 3 days later they call and insist on an alternator replacement that will cost me $800 in order for them to start on the replacement/ repairs of the recalls. The battery and alternator all were working in good condition before the power steering issue came about while my vehicle was in motion. I should not be reliable of paying for this. The dealership is also charging me a $65 towing fee!.

Was driving car and stopped at a stop light when all of sudden the car just turned off and everything locked up. The key stayed stuck in the ignition. The car was not able to go into neutral or park. All the electrical system shut down. Very dangerous situation to be in. Had I been on a highway that could of got me killed!!! my battery and alternator were in good condition. So it didn't make sense for car to die out of nowhere.
The car keeps dying and shutting off. I have replaced 2 new batteries and an alternator. When I am driving the car will either just die or start to die and all of the lights come on, power steering, esc emergency brake all of them and then the car eventually dies.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. While stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle went into auto stop mode and failed to start when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact performed a diagnostic test, which indicated that the generator battery control module failed. The contact replaced the battery. Some time after the battery replacement, the failure recurred. While stopped at a traffic light a second time, the vehicle went into auto stop mode as designed. The driver released the brake pedal; however, the vehicle jerked and began to hesitate. In addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated. The driver was able to drive the vehicle; however, it seemed as if it would stall at any moment. The contact ran another diagnostic test, which resulted in the same failure message. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the recall was for the 2013 models and not the 2014 models. The manufacturer opened case number: 8/3551621673. The approximate failure mileage was 78,600.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. While stationary, the interior lighting system malfunctioned. The contact stated that the lights remained illuminated after the vehicle was locked. In addition, while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle stalled without warning. Furthermore, the battery lost power on more than one occasion, which caused the vehicle not to start. Hendricks Chevrolet of north carolina diagnosed that the generator in the vehicle needed to be replaced. The repair was completed, but the dealer discovered that the generator control module was also faulty. In addition, the dealer stated that a repair was performed on the vehicle in 2012. The contact discovered product safety number: 12238, which provided coverage for the replacement of the generator; however, the manufacturer stated that it had expired. The failure mileage was 58,812.
