2 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/04/2018

Takata recall. My radio started displaying a service air bag message and my horn stopped working. The wiring in the car has stopped working. I began to replace lightbulbs thinking they were blown but just will not work. Heard this car was recalled for these exact problems I am having but for some reason my car has no recalls. My steering wheel makes a knocking noise when turning very sharp. Sounds like a piece is broken knocking around.

4 Horn Assembly problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

I decided to lease a 2016 Malibu of February 2016. The car was great until months later I started to have problems. I was driving to school on the freeway in October 2016, when my car suddenly went into reduce speed engine. I was driving approximately 65 to 70 mph. I was in the left lane of the freeway. As I was driving my car dashboard display reduce speed engine, then immediately my car went from 70 mph to 30 mph to 20mph. I manage to get my car to the emergency lane of the freeway. The problem was fixed that following week, with complications of trying to get a rental car so I can go to work and school. 2017 October 31st, I was driving to go pick up my son from school. I was on a major street. My car went into reduce speed engine. I was driving 35 mph. My car went from 35 to 20 mph's again. I managed to pull into a near bank. Shaken up I parked my car and turn it off and then back on within five minutes. The light was still display on my dashboard. I drove to my son school. I couldn't drive over 10 mph. It normally take 10 minutes to drive to my son school it 25. It took even longer to get back home. November 30th, same problem happen again. While driving on a major highway. Once again I was in the left lane driving the reduce speed engine came on. My car slowed down. I had cars behind me honking their horns at me nearly causing a few accidents. I manage to get off the freeway. I did not want to be stuck on the freeway while it was dark. I was stranded at a nearby gas station for close to two hours. The problems I keep having with this car is dangerous. I refuse to drive a vehicle that can potentially cause me or my son our lives.

5 Horn Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

2007 chevy Malibu electrical hell my car was completely fine aside from the power steering recall that was fixed on it. Then about 4 months later my car cranks but doesn't start! I was driving it 20 mins prior and then this happens. The radio, the lights, the horn and the dinging with the door open, all still worked. Unsuccessfully trying to start it I left it alone to get towed. 5 days later I received my car back saying it started just fine they can't detect what's wrong with it, because they couldn't read the code it gave out, and to keep notes of weird things to bring it back in. In doing so my car was fine for a month and a half, they're were no issues. The next time my car did the crank and no start I noticed the security icon lighting up, as well as the fact that I left my radio and air on. It's late at night, I'm alone and my car is failing me, after trying for 15 minutes I got my car to start. The third time is the worst time, by this point it's about 2 weeks after the 2nd incident. Same scenario, just drove it 20 mins prior and it was fine, then another crank no start for hours. Even tried to leave my key in to ignition. After hours I got it to start and making it home the car slowed down and came to a complete halt in the middle of an extremely busy street, putting on my brake lights I avoided getting rear ended. I took the key out and restarted the car and it started somehow. After getting it home I haven't driven it since and a number of more issues started happening. My locks have now started to make an obnoxious buzzing noise when getting unlocked, the service air bag notification will light-up on the dash and disappear quickly, all icons light up on dashboard , security icon flashes, check engine light is on, car will not start on crank, radio fades out and comes back on, horn is a faint noise. Reading similar complaints this is an outrage.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed other vehicles flashing their headlights and blowing their horns. The contact realized that the driver side low beam headlight was out. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and repaired. Two weeks after the repair, the failure recurred. 9 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

Bought car used at 136,000 miles. Car radio does not light up or work, and horn doesn't work. Drivers side back window won't go down. First day driving the car, turn signals stopped blinking and then started blinking again. Suspension in the back squeaks badly when driving at random and going over speed bumps. Did not drive the car for more than one day and now car won't start at all (no crank, no start). These are major safety issues including serious electrical problems. The battery is only one year old on the car when purchased, so should be good. These electrical issues need to be recalled. Now I am stuck with a car that has so many problems and won't start and is definitely not safe to drive.

10 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

My key will not turn in the ignition and I checked for recalls. I called the dealer to fix the recall on the ignition, and was notified that they would only put a piece of plastic over key and would not fix the ignition to turn. I can hardly even start my car because the key won't turn. The key is going to break off in the ignition. The horn and radio do not work either. Not having a horn for incoming traffic towards my vehicle is very dangerous. The turn signals only work at random times and that is very dangerous when switching lanes into traffic. Also, something in the back of the car squeaks for no reason when going down the road at random and when going over speed bumps. This car also drains the battery with unknown electrical problems. The drivers side back passenger window wont go down either. This car has way too many safety issues for only 137,000 miles on it.

11 Horn Assembly problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Car lost power at 65 mph than reduced power and engine light came on turn car off after trying to coast to ta stop with cars and trucks flying by honking there horn and flicking me off and I was helpless the cars motor was shut off because of the power reduce and esc than the traction control can on too all need to be serviced fine but than it did it all again after I got everything fixed and then the throttle body had to replaced again and peddle sensor and traction control sensor and still does it the car is trying to kill me and the new mechanic I took it to said he sees this a lot and its sometimes hard to fix because it comes back and than I read online the same thing I thought he was trying to get more money out of me why wont Chevrolet help gm help government needs to step in and make these car places fix this stuff befor a lot of people get killed.

17 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

I purchased this vehicle very used at 143xxx miles, from a "reputable" dealer. I got a tune up as well as an oil change, standard used car purchase procedure. My dad initially brought to my attention that while driving my fuel gauge dropped down to e, the low gas light lit up and the check engine light came on. A local auto parts store said I should use a fuel injection kit for the check engine light. Now I have 146xxx miles and it happens every single time I get gas. It's nerve racking because I do drive frequently and my main concern is how much gas do I have? I came across a guy that works at a different auto store and he said it's probably my sender unit for my gas tank, which should cost about $300 to fix depending on where I take it. My next set of issues is my horn, I was unaware that it didn't work upon purchasing until I went to honk it and nothing happened. I took it to midas and they replaced the fuse. After driving it home the horn stopped working again. I heard it's just some wires touching but nobody does electrical work. Today, a friend asked if my turn signals were working. I said they did and he said they were burnt up, plastic and all. I looked and sure enough they were melted and the light itself was black on the inside and it looked like it's on the verge of shattering. He asked if there were recalls on anything with this car, I told him I called a local chevy dealer and the guy insisted otherwise. Now, I checked this website and both the gas and lights are on a list of recalls. Apparently, not all dealers know half the information they should for concerned drivers.

18 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/21/2012

The auto theft light comes on when I unlock my doors and headlights flashes and the radio clock light flash until I start the car, sometime I have to shut the car off and restart it to get it to stop. Then the car doors unlock and lock when I am driving down the street. When I put my car in drive there is a horn sound. What is wrong with my car?.

19 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/21/2011

1. The turn signals would not illuminate. Just stopped working for no reason. Lights were not burned out. Then they mysteriously started working just as they had stopped. For no reason. Incidents became more frequent with no apparent cause. Not weather related. After reading complaints on this site, I found that if I turned on my hazard flashers, the blinkers would work again. 2. I was rear ended on 11/4/11 though and could not get the flashers to work. I don't know if my brake lights were working or not when the incident occurred. 3. The air conditioner and heater only work on the highest level. 4. The door locks will lock and unlock at randon while driving. 5. The key fob will work sometimes, most times not lately. 6. The security system will honk the horn sometimes when the key fob does lock the doors, most times it does not honk though. 7. The car overheats as the coolant container is loose and the radiator cap does not fit properly even though I purchased a new one. The gauge for the temperature doesn't seem to be accurate. 8. Sometimes the heater does not work, just as the a/c didn't work most of the time in the summer. 9. Anytime I try to use the cigarette lighter, it blows the fuse, leaving that feature totally useless. This car is very unpredictable and for a single woman, I feel it creates potential to be in a very dangerous situation. I do not know what to expect from this car and I really thought I was buying a reliable used car since it is a Chevrolet Malibu. Was I ever wrong and although I have always bought Chevrolet, it will not be my preference in the future.

20 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

I turn the key to start my car. I drive to the corner to make a right turn onto the main street. The turn signal does not work. This has not happened before. I then turn on the turn signals left to change lanes and make a left turn and the signals don't work again. Then I come to a stop at a light and the horn goes of on its own and I had to pull over and tried to stop the horn by turning off the car. The horn is still going. I turn the car back on and the horn is still going and the lights still are not working. I hit with an open hand the horn twice and it stops, but the turn signals still doesn't work. Then a few weeks later, the headlights cannot be adjusted. The wheel that adjusts the lights from bright to dim doesn't work. You cannot adjust the lights and if you try, all the lights, inside and out go out. Also the turn signals on both sides(left and right) work when they want and I don't have a horn. Once a few months ago, the lights were blinking and the horn was going off in my car while the car was off and parked in my driveway. Help me!!!!!!.

22 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

23 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

Intermittent turn signals and horn continually goes off having to remove fuse.

24 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/16/2009

This car is terrible. Not only did my brakes not work which made my car crash through the front of my house the steering has been replaced twice and the problem still exists. The electrical system has major problems. The blinker burned a hole through the lens cover and makes the horn, doors and lights not work. I have contacted gm several times over the last 5 years and they don't care because the warranty is out. Then you read how many people have the same problems. They got their bailout how about a bailout for the people who bought gm products. There seems to be no help for the consumer.

25 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/26/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 35 mph the steering wheel began pulling to the right. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the steering rack had excessive play and needed to be replaced. The failure also caused the driver and passenger side front tires to become worn which needed to be replaced. The repair cost was $657 since there were no related recalls or valid warranties. The wiring in the horn was also defective and it was repaired at the owners expense for $200. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure and current mileages were 23,800. Updated 11/15/10 updated 11/24/10.

26 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/05/2009

First my horn fuse continued to blow. I replaced the fuse multiple times. Then my turn signal light went out. I looked at it and noticed that both sides had holes burnt through the amber globe. I was out of town and didn't want to receive a ticket for non working light so I had it replaced, however within a day the bulb blew again and the horn fuse blew again. I took it to the dealer and they said they had no clue what was causing it however I had to pay over $500 to have the headlight parts replaced on both sides. I have an extended warranty and they denied the claim b/c they don't replace lights, however the fact that the car is burning up I don't think I just wanted new lights. I do not feel I should be out money for a problem that has obviously occurred on other vehicles and now mine. I feel that a car that is actually melting/burning is a major safety concern. . . . But I guess until a few people blow up in there vehicles people will be out money to pay for a faulty automobile. I wish I still had my Ford. . It never gave me the problems this car has. I started with steering going out, then back hatch never opened, car remote systems doesn't work (and I won't pay to replace that), now the car is blowing fuses, lights, and burning up melting the plastic. I think they should just start replacing the 2004 with something a little more safe. . . . Like a Ford.

27 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/11/2008

I bought a certified used car from bill heard in plant city before they closed down, from day 1 I had a problem with the car ignition not starting and the anti theft,I have been left stranded several time s cause of this problem,I have taken it back to them twice and they kept telling me there is nothing wrong although at times there is then they told me if it happens again just let the car set for 10mins and it will be ok, well it should not happen in the first place, then after almost flipping the car I found out that the front rotors are totally shot and when I had to hit my brakes one caught before the other causing the car to go into a skid, then the ignition and the anti theft act up again and this time the horn is stuck so I had to pull the fuse to stop the horn tested the relay and it was fine the switch is stuck somewhere and know one seems to know where,so now I have a used certified used car with no horn and worn out rotors faulty ignition and OH I forgot that every now and then I will get shocked getting out of the car and a broke motor mount that I was told that I would have to fix own my own due to it was aware and tear apart that they won't cover, well it should have been replaced before the car was even sold. So now I have taken it to 2 other dealers to get it fixed and they told me I would have to pay for it well I don't think that's right due to the fact that all of that should have been checked and fixed before the car was ever sold and I guess since I was a first time buyer with no credit that it was ok for them to stick it to me which in turn I see why bill heard went out of business with people like that working for them,so now I need to know what I should do about this so called certified used piece of death trap I was sold?.

28 Horn Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

This morning when getting gas, I got back in the car, started it up and the horn randomly beeped. Once I got to work, and locked the car the horn beeped again, keep in mind the remote locks don't sound the horn. When I got home later when locking the car the horn didn't sound. When someone else used the car later tonight, when starting the car the horn sounded again. I asked her to turn it off and try again, and once again it sounded.

29 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/14/2008

1)ignition switch failed. I was told by a service employee at the chevy dealer to make sure my extended service contract covered electrical parts because the switch would fail and it would cost 500. 00 to fix. Sure enough, 6 months later, it did. Warranty covered part replacement. 2) transmission shifts very hard. This happened 4 days in a row. After driving for approx 2 hours, the transmission started shifting extremely hard. I turned the car off and restarted it and the problem was gone. After the 4th day, it has not happened again for approx 5 months now. 3) electrical problems. Window motor went out. Replaced part. High/low beam (combination switch) went out, replaced part. Now horn honks at will. Had to pull the relay to stop it.

30 Horn Assembly problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the turn signals and hazard lamps worked intermittently. In addition, the horn would not sound. He cannot use the turn signals to indicate his intent to turn the vehicle, which could result in a crash. The dealer stated that the VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 03v327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch); therefore, he would have to pay $300 to have the component replaced. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 85,000.

31 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/18/2007

The horn on my vehicle failed. This led to a near collision as I was unable to utilize the horn to alert the other driver to my presence. I took my 2004 Malibu to my mechanic who replaced the fuse. The horn worked for about a day and then when being operated by another driver, he tried to use the horn when another vehicle ran a red light and the horn did not work. Per the mechanic the fuse blew again. He ran a check on service notices for the vehicle and found that condensation forms in the location of the horn due to a known defect in the location. Gm is aware of this, but has not issued a recall even though the mechanic states that it causes the horn to quit suddenly and the average consumer will believe it is the fuse, repair that only to have the horn fail again within days.

32 Horn Assembly problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

33 Horn Assembly problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/10/2006

The horn will beep on its own, usually when car is first started or turned off, but will also beep (by itself) while driving. Also the automatic power door lock switch on the driver side door, which is supposed to lock all doors when depressed when I am leaving the vehicle doesn't work properly. Both of these problems have been "fixed" several times over the last 12 - 18 months by the dealer, but they keep recurring. Another problem, which the dealer had "fixed" a couple of times is that I would go out to start the car, it just wouldn't start. The dealer claimed it had something to do with the anti-theft system/ignition lock cylinder in that if you try three different keys or make three attempts to start the car, then the anti-theft system would lock the car out. Two times over the last 12-18 I've gone out to the car, put my car key in the ignition (once each time) and the car would not start, would not even turn over. I'm waiting for it to happen it again, because once the horn and locks start malfunctioning, the anti-theft system usually starts malfunctioning.

34 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/13/2006

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, a short circuit caused all of the vehicle's lights to blink at the same time very rapidly. Also, the horn sounded rapidly, then the vehicle powered down causing all of the lights to dim and the electronic steering wheel to lock up. The vehicle went into a coasting mode. Until the vehicle powered back up again, and the computers overrode each other, the steering wheel would not unlock. The dealership replaced all of the lights three times. This included turn signal lights, headlights, taillights and any other lights to try and remedy the problem. The fuel pump was changed because the dealership thought the fuel pump may be overriding the main computer. The cruise control was also replaced because the dealership thought maybe the cruise control was activating the system, but the problem still persisted. The cruise control was not in use when the short circuit occurred. Updated 10/4/2006 -.
