The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 25 mph, the battery warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the bcm was controlling the charging of the alternator, which damaged the bearings and alternator. The bearings and alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. After the replacement of the alternator, the power steering, headlights, and all the instrument panel warning indicators intermittently illuminated. Also, when the contact exited the vehicle, the doors independently locked while the engine was running. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v224000 (power train), 14v153000 (steering), and 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 199,000.

I was involved in a hit and run back in March 2017 the person backed into the pass-side of my car as I was driving 35 mph down the main road , the side impact airbag did not deploy from impact , the dealership said this is not a takata issue as they were replaced by the current recall and they don't know why they didn't deploy . The electrical issue is the onstar response system didn't detect the crash and call for help- I had to push the button to get help . The car can not get directions sent to it from onstar and the electrical keeps failing/loosing power and I was told to replace the batter and alternator but it still does it and the wires r fine . Dealership told me to replace the computer control system but seems their guessing and I don't have $1,200 around to do it . The side impact airbag should of deployed and the onstar sensor should of detected it and called for help.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. While the contact's son was driving various speeds, the power steering failed to turn left or right and the instrument panel lighting automatically turned off without warning. The contact's son pulled over to the side of the road and waited 8-10 seconds. Afterwards, the vehicle returned to normal. The contact's son was able to drive to work and back home. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (serpentini Chevrolet of strongsville, 15303 royalton rd, strongsville, OH 44136), but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred several other times. The vehicle was taken to another dealer (pat o'brien Chevrolet south, 3880 pearl rd, medina, OH 44256) where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure occurred again after the repair. The manufacturer was contacted at 866-790-3600 and stated that they were unaware of the issue and the contact would have to pay for the repairs. Case number: 8-314031920 was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Battery light coming on. Dealership diagnose bad alternator. Installed new alternator. Two weeks passed, all dashboard lights come on, lost power steering, while driving. Car towed in. Dealership found fusible link burnt on alternator, which caused first alternator to go bad. $25. 00 part.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu classic. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning and was unable to be restarted. The security pass lock and anti-lock warning indicators randomly flashed intermittently. The vehicle began to stall at random. The vehicle was diagnosed by a mechanic who stated that the fuel pump regulator failed. The vehicle was repaired, but continued to stall. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Consistent problems with headlamps failing frequently. Alternator fine. Cause is due to corrosion of the wiring and wiring harness. Manufacturer defect prevents replacement of headlamps, wires or wiring harnesses without removing front bumper, wheel and wheel well, making maintenance virtually impossible. Headlamps failed in October 2014 and again in March of this year. General motors unwilling to help with problem. When operating the vehicles in low light conditions or at night, insufficient lighting makes it difficult to spot other vehicles, pedestrians, animals and other road hazards.
I was stopped at a stop sign to turn and when I accelerated a quick flash of the service ecm message came on and then disappeared, but the car stalled out in the middle of the intersection. When I tried to restart the car, it would turnover, run for 2 seconds and then die. I had the car towed to my house, where we charged the battery and took it over to autozone to have the electronics scanned, where it showed 3 codes: u0121, p0106, p0621. They scanned the battery and alternator, and all came up with a clean bill of health (so to speak). Upon reading online it looks like this was an issue in Malibu's 2004-2009 (which was recalled), and I believe they never fixed the issue and now 2010's may be affected. My worry is that this will happen again and it will be at a busier intersection or worse yet, on the highway.
While increasing speed, the battery light and engine light come on. The power steering stops working for a few seconds and the dash lights go out. The lights go of and the power steering starts working like normal. There is still electrical power to the rest of the car (radio works, brakes work, interior lights still work, etc. ) I replaced the battery and had the charging system inspected, nothing wrong with it. Alternator is good, battery is good. No shop can explain why this happens, even the Chevrolet dealer. It doesn't matter the speed I am going, it always does this. Driving on the interstate I lost power to the steering and went into the ditch to avoid an accident. The dealer states there is nothing wrong with the car, and cannot diagnose the problem. I have came close to totaling my car several times. I had my kids in the car when it lost steering on the interstate. This could have cost us our lives. I'm scared to drive this car but have to. This complaint is my last option before contacting a lawyer. I hope this can be resolved through this complaint.
2002 Chevrolet Malibu LS sedan presented has noticeably weak and inefficient headlights and fog lights posing a safety issue. The fog lights are not effective in mildly foggy driving conditions at all. In fact due to such poor performance, it is quite difficult to discern whether or not the fog lights are turned on. Headlight performance is poor with markedly decreased lighting efficiency in city driving and on wet roads. The vehicle headlights dim and or flicker when the driver depresses the brake to slow the vehicle or come to a complete stop. Concern that on coming traffic can't discern between high and low beams or a confusion from the unintended dimming/flickering. Vehicle electrical systems have been checked with no problems found. Alternator/generator check ok, new battery check ok, serpentine belt and pulleys check ok, all bulbs, fuses, and fuseable links check ok. New bulbs tried, but no increase in lighting output. Vehicle taken to gm service center in zanesville, ohio. Service technician test drove the vehicle with customer present. Service technician stated that the performance issue was basically "normal" and a common concern among many customers. Service tech. Went on to say that brand new gm vehicles have the same issue, in fact he stated that they are worse. 2002 Chevrolet Malibu LS lighting/electrical problem still persists. Vehicle does not feel safe to drive at night due to the lighting.

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, all of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery and alternator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 27,510 and the current mileage was 31,913.
I was driving on the higway. While driving on the highway at around 60 mile per hour the powersteering warning came onto the radio display. Shortly after the steering wheel became extremly hard to turn. I was able to pull over to the side of the road once I dont that the car cut off. I was towed to have the car looked at, once the car was looked at I had the alternator replaced. When I picked up the car from the place where it was serviced, while driving it home the car locked up again and I had to have it towed again to the place. Once at the place the problem was fixed and the car ran fine for two days. While driving to work once pulled in parking space the battery light came on again. Now I am afriad to drive it in feaer that it will happen again and cause an accident.
Parked the car, came back out and it wouldn't start, though there was power from the battery and the engine acted like it was trying to turn over (indicating that it wasn't the alternator). Had to have car towed. Turned out that the "theft system" (passlock) locked me out. Mechanics "reset" it. It happened again about 10 days later.

I bought a 99 chevy Malibu for my daughter. Only 55,000 miles on it. The vehicle all of a sudden started acting up, lights flashing, power locks going crazy locking and unlocking, all the gauges on the dash are going crazy, vehicle ended dying and wont start. Bought a brand new battery $80. 00, then purchased a alternator $150. 00 vehicle still not running correctly , vehicle ended up not running at all , had the vehicle towed to a gm dealer and they put the veh on diagnostics (charged $95. 00) and was told that cannot run diagnostic because there is an electrical problem. . . . Fixed that problem ($300) and the vehicle still wont run because of the anti- theft lockout system failure (which I mentioned to the dealer, because of doing research on the internet) I have read online that there are several (more than several people) that all have the same issue with this vehicle, but are being taken for a financial ride with the repair facility not being able to figure out the problem and replacing part after part and the vehicles still don't run. Gm obviously has been aware of this problem and the consumer is stuck to foot the bill with a obvious defect that they included in this vehicle. I really would like to know what it takes for a recall on a part that the manufacturer is fully aware and has done nothing to fix the problem, other than charge the consumer $$$$$$$ to fix their mistake. I have read over and over how people are stranded with this vehicle all because of a defective part : anti- theft lockout system failure.

Purchased car in 2002 and ran fine until about 8 months ago. Replaced alternator and car ran fine for another 3 months. Since, has failed while driving on highway and city roads. Replaced ignition control module. Ran for another month. Same problem arose. Replaced spark plugs and engine sensor. Ran for another 2 months. Still having same problem. Will kill while driving and eventually won't start at all. Will turn over but won't fire.

I was driving my car on the byway and took the interstate merge lane while increasing my speed to merge into traffic I felt a snap in my steering wheel and gas pedal, I then lost the dash and the car immediately overheated, I had no real power to turn the wheel and the gas pedal was a loose push. Being that I had merged onto the interstate when this occurred I had to drive an additional 5 miles to the next exit. Not everyone has a cell phone. When I got to the next exit I was almost unable to turn the wheel enough to get it into the nearest parking lot, it was harder to turn than my first truck a 1959 Ford twin I beam pickup. I fortunately didn't hit any one or anything. Upon raising my hood after parking the car I am appalled to see that the tensioner pulley and one of the idler pulleys are gone and my serpentine belt is shredded. I have replaced the parts but since then I also found that within 5 miles the "dreaded" gaskets that so many people have complained about, and mine we already eating fluids in sipps before this, were gone. I have replaced the broken pulleys serpentine belt alternator waterpump and gaskets not a month later the other idler pulley that was unaffected in the first incident went. When the first two were replaced that dreaded squeaking stopped for about 3 days and started back up again. Something must not be straight for me to have to keep replacing the moving parts that run on the serpentine belt and everytime one of them goes you loose your power steering and the car is hard to turn. Not only that but the tail lights would be a better place for a gold fish than a light bulb. Everytime it rains, or snows I have to replace tail lights. This car is the bane of my existence. I have the first idler pulley part still the rest of them were lost to the highway the thing is melted.

After driving approximately 20-30 minutes, car will surge, and then stall. After waiting a few minutes the car will start and go another 15 min or so. This has happened on multiple occasions, and after multiple repairs. The last incident occurred on a busy bridge with no hazard lane; a police officer pushed me off the bridge with his squad car. I have replaced the alternator, fuel filter, & fuel relay. After each repair I was assured that the problem was corrected. After each repair the problem occurred again. I have taken it to two mechanics and they have not been able to find any problems.
Vehicle has just reached 62000 miles. Most recent incident - all dashboard warning lights came on-car died and had to be towed to dealer. Replaced alternator - supposedly "common" at this mileage. Six weeks prior - coolant indicator keeps coming on. Dealer replaced lower intake manifold gasket and water pump. Also told common in this car at this mileage. Brakes done also - rotors needed replacement - again supposedly common in the Malibu.
Brakes and rotors have been replaced 3 times since 2002- a/c goes off and on- ignition switch replaced due to electrical failure- driver's side window don't roll down- alternator and battery replaced- intake manifold gasket and radiator replaced.

On several occasions my car has failed to start for no apparent reason. The alternator and ignition system have all been checked out with no problems and I had my battery replace because I thought that was the cause of the problem. The very next day after having my battery replaced, it happend again. Each of these times, I attempted to start my car and it would sound like it was trying to start but fail to turn over. Each of these times, my theft system light was blinking. If I wait several minutes, eventually the car will start. This has happened in cold and warm weather and has stranded me and my 2 young children many times. Also, now my the fuel gauge in my car has begun to fall to empty even when it is full with gas. My gauge suddenly went from 1/4 of a tank to empty a few minutes into my trip. I stopped to fill up my gas tank and was only able to put 7 gallons of gas in it when I know my gas tank hold 13 gallons of gas. This is a new problem just starting yesterday (3/16/05) but has happened every time I start my car since then.
Had trouble starting car. Replaced battery, alternator and belt. Same thing happened; car would turn over, but not fire. Automobile repaired, replaced battery; next day, car would not start again. Would start with a jump, but when I stop, it dies. 3 occurences; same problem. I've used aaa 3 times for same item. I only have 1 more service call left!!! also, interior lights don't work all the time. Brake noise on right side.
Consumer stated alternator bracket broke.
Reporting multiple issues. Increased problems after recall work performed. . Items 2 and 3. Item 1 from the original purchase and no gm solution on what has been a wide spread part quality problem documented. Drivers side seat early on from purchase dealer welded break once. Broke again driving with broken seat now leg nerve back problems. Concern on safety if in accident a. . No recall why no option to get replacement parts or seat why????? while driving vehicle power steering went out reduced acceleration dashboard varying lights random varies off and on able to coast out of traffic. No ability to restart. Towed dealer indicated need to replace generator and battery both performed vehicle drains unable to start jump start runs fails again later - no solution problem started after dealership recall work done on ignition switch related to recall work???? sitting in driveway - do we tow back to dealership that had us replace the generator as an unnecessary expense??? selector malfunction not working serviced now no ability to use low gear selection push button. Stays on 3 why again related to recall work performed??? some sensations of slippage between gears as well. Why?? like the vehicle and want it to be safe to drive and keep in service. This 1999 Chevrolet Malibu was purchased in July 2001 in had a water leaking problem took 3 tries before they found it needed thermostat gasket didn't even have one in it they sold it to me . This way with a promise it had been fixed. Within the first year I had the car they had to replace both front wheel bearings & strut bushings. Then the alternator went out & it cause my battery to go bad overcharged it they replaced alternator but refused to re-emburse me for the battery. Then ignition switch caused problem with anti-theft system would not start. Had that replaced in March 2002. Then anti-lock brake system went out had to have it replaced window switch very slow had to be cleaned another one not working at all now, not covered under warranty, at this time also had to have anti theft system fixed again light on all the time another bad ignition switch. Also had blower motor & relay switch for heater to go out over the summer most of the interior lights have long ago burnt out & had to be replaced lock out for trunk lid also broke not covered on warranty. Hub caps have lug nuts made in them that screw onto your lug bolts stripped out when took for repairs by dealer refused to replace them because they cost $500. 00 for a new set. So I purchased the lug nut part & repalced it myself at a dealership for $10. 00 set of 5. November of 2002 brakes & rotors were replaced in Jan. 2003 brake pads replaced again in March 2003 pads replaced again in July 2003 pads replaced once again then in sept. 2003 master cylinder replaced in oct. 2003 master cylinder replaced again now it's Nov 2003 & master cylinder being replaced again tomorrow. These cars have a real brake problem that needs to be fixed it's costing a fortune.
Vehicle had catalytic converter and alternator go out completely within 10k of each other. Once the cat had gone bad, it caused the valve seals on the engine to need to be replaced along with the intake manifold gasket, a $1300 job not covered by extended warranty. Also have had break pad problems with them wearing unevenly. The vehicle was at a Chevrolet dealer for almost a week before they guessed the problem-no one actually looked at my engine to verify that the seals needed to be replaced, I was so annoyed with waiting for a diagnosis, I had another mechanic complete the work and replace the cat. These problems also resulted in a midnight tow two hours away from home since my car would not start, taking more time and money out of my hectic schedule.
Within the past year we have had multiple system failures with our 1999 Chevrolet Malibu with 47,000 miles. The intake manifold gasket has leaked, the brake pads, rotors, and wheel cylinders were repaired, the theft deterrent system and abs warning lights come on repeatedly, and the alternator and water pump have failed. The passlock sensor and body control module have been replaced to address the theft system warning light and the harness and individual wheel speed sensors have been suggested for the abs warning light. Chevrolet should be requred to recall the vehicle to address some or all of these problems.
I purchased my 1998 Malibu, it's had nothing but problems. Since I bought this car in November of 2001 with in less than a week of purchasing I had to take the car back to dealer and have them fix a problem because check engine light was on, I am unsure of the exact problem but I do know the car did not pass emissions and if I had to pay for it, it would have cost me over 500 dollars, I have replaced my front brakes on 3 occasions, I have fixed the leaking transmission 2x, I have replaced the tail light bulbs about 4x, I replaced the alternator and the lining is coming off the trunk. These are all problems I had in less then 2 years of owning the vehicle. Since March 2004 I have been unable to drive my vehicle. I have replaced the fuel pump, water pump, 2 of the injectors and there have been other small repairs here and there. Every time I fix something within less then a week of driving it there is something else wrong I am unable to repair it until I can save enough money to put more into it. I am currently replacing the injectors which I have already paid 600 dollars and have 4 more to go. I am worried that after I put this money into it I will still have more problems, I have been told that there is some electrical problem in the dash but they are unsure exactly what it is because the car will not run long enough to figure out. Nobody can tell me everything that is wrong with because I need to fix one problem before they can be sure of the next. This car was the worst purchase I have made. I was unable to register my vehicle last year due to all the problems. I have been on several web sites and about this car and everyone is having similar problems and putting out thousands of dollars in repairs.

Have had many problems with this car! bought car 2/17/2001. . . . . -8/15/2001 had to replace alternator. . . . 2/24/2002 had intake manifold gasket replaced because of coolant leakage, cost was 600. 00. . . . . 06/20/03 had to replace battery due to leakage and corrosion around positive cable. . . . . . . 7/24/03 had to replace brake pads and have rotors turned for the second time. . . . I think that there should be a recall for some of these things!!!!! car now has 70,000 miles on it. . . Thought I was buying a good car!! :).
Alternator failure.
