The brake vacuum pump is bad they used to cheap chinese knockoff part that breaks and get sucked into the engine possibly causing engine failure but for the most part in your brakes can fail leaving the car without any breaking support from the booster vacuum I called the dealership the service advisor immediately told me to take the car to the dealer for work at general motors expense the brake vacuum pumps are failing at an alarming rate causing serious damage and possibility of injury 5 minutes after I did everything they told me I recalled the dealing to confirm my appointment they refused to answer the phone and put me on hold then when they answer the phone they told me that the servants advisor I talked to no longer works there best Chevrolet kenner louisiana 70062 without the vacuum pump the brakes are very hard the press the car is very difficult to stop especially at high speeds I'm trying to get this fixed but general motors is refusing the service advisor told me the best thing that I can do is to pay for everything and whenever general motors feels like doing a recall I maybe can get reimbursed.

3 Engine Failure problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/05/2020

Bought the vehicle from merchants auto in oct 2019 and within a week the car stalled to start. I called around Nov 2019 to set up an appt to have it fixed. They couldn't duplicate it so it couldn't be fixed. I went back on 2/15/20 and 5/29/20 and recently on 6/29/20. They still could not duplicate our call stalling and then shutting off when coming to a stop. We would have to give it gas mostly to start it up. Last time I took it there they were able to come up with $700 worth of charges that were out of warranty so I had to pass because we don't have $700 and plus this was starting when we bought the vehicle. I wondered why they couldnt have come up with the same conlusion the first time that I brought it in or the 2nd time and the lady said she didnt know. I called quirk Chevrolet to ask about recall 13142 and the person I spoke to , informed me that since my VIN # doesn't fall under that recall that it cant be replaced. The recall describes what is happening to our vehicle and I don't understand why I cant have it replaced with the recall that is listed for my car. This is a known issues for 2013 chevy Malibu and my car is not eco so it shouldn't be doing that at all. Our vehicle stalls at stop signs and stop lights. . We have to put it in park. . Restart the car and then drive. Or we have to put it in neutral to not let the engine fail. It happens only when we come to a stop or when it idles. It is a safety issue and I am getting the run around. No one is willing to help or can figure out what is going on. Driving back from maine yesterday and after a 5 hour drive we come to an exit and have to slow down if no stop and the car shuts off. This last happened on 7/5 around 5pm et.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/04/2020

Engine code p16d0 causing a valve that controls air to oil intake for the motor is stuck open causing in accurate oil pressure. This happens when in motion. To continue to drive would most likely cause extreme engine failure and improper gas mileage. After checking the code and replacing the "affected" parts, the light is still not cleared as it creates more issues within the motor. The dealer is not able to identify the issue and is charging an absurd amount of money just to attempt to fix the issue with out any guarantees. There are also an abundance of similar situations and it all occurs once these vehicles get to 100,000 miles. This is a serious issue and I believe the manufacture should correct such an issue as multiple people have been experiancing the issue.

5 Engine Failure problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/13/2020

While driving, the car suddenly flashed the "reduced engine speed" message, and the engine warning light came on. The vehicle would not exceed 20 mph after the message came on. The earliest dealership appointment was for 1/20/20 in a city approximately 30 minutes away; I called the Chevrolet warranty line and was advised to try calling other dealerships and take my vehicle to be serviced there, despite my repeated explanations of the safety risk due to the engine failure. I received my car back today (1/22/20) and was told the accelerator wiring was replaced under a "special" warranty extension and that they are not providing the warranty rental car coverage.

12 Engine Failure problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

2002 Chevrolet Malibu classic engine fails to start. Gm passlock theft system indicator light flashes, and stays lit. Vehicle has failed to start and stranded driver and passengers. Key feels loose in ignition. Trim surrounding ignition remains loose from multiple switch replacements. Same issue has been diagnosed before. Vehicle diagnosed and documented at gm service center as having a failed ignition switch for the second time. Vehicle had to have ignition switch replaced 2 times at owner's expense for a grand total of over $1200. All parts and replacements have been performed at the same genuine gm service center. Recommend ignition switch recall for safety and reliability issues. First replacement occured in 2008. Second switch replacement required in 2014. Vehicle part of recent gm recall #:n140350 for unintended key rotation. Remedy was performed on the day of ignition switch replacement number 2; which included "inserts" for the key ring so that it goes from a "slot" design to a hole design and 2 small 13 mm rings. It should be noted that this is a failed remedy that can be found in general motors TSB # 05-02-35-007a and was performed on similar model year vehicles. This solution or remedy from engineering did not ultimately protect drivers and operators from unintended key rotation. This so called recall remedy is a previously known failure and can be found in public documents concerning gm ignition switch litigation. Why is gm allowed to continue to implement a failed design when it comes to handling the ignition switch recalls. If it doesn't work in 6 different gm vehicles, then why would it work in the 1997-2005my Chevrolet Malibu classic? this is deceptive and a clear indication that gm does not care about their customers.

13 Engine Failure problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

Had been experiencing failure to start and stalling of vehicle while driving, on occasion. Took it in for service at a local, reputable shop in madison heights, mi. Was informed it needed a fuel pump. Job was completed. Upon picking up car about August 5, 2014, drove it away but returned to area of shop to ask mechanic a question. About 1/8 mile from shop and at about 35 mph, the engine completely shut off. All automatic systems--brakes, steering, dashboard lights, etc. --failed as well. Engine did not falter prior to this; it simply shut down. We were able to coast into the shop's parking lot, thankfully! shop had car for several days afterward due to a major flood in se michigan about that time. Upon their resuming work on it, they also experienced the engine failure during a test drive. We then took car to serra Chevrolet in southfield, mi, where we had purchased it some months earlier. We were informed it was the ignition switch--out of warranty and no recall existing--and the job was completed, at our expense. We followed up this repair with a request to general motors for a refund of the $578. 38 charge. Gm refused, stating the car was out of warranty. We object to this! this appears to be the classic engine failure/ignition switch problem gm has experienced on hundreds of thousands of cars, in and out of warranty. We note that in their refusal, gm did not use the word "recall," making us believe they are dodging that issue until such time, as we expect, the recall of their cars with the classic engine failure/ignition switch problem will extend back to 2005 models! any assistance or advice you can extend in this matter would be appreciated.

14 Engine Failure problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/09/2012

As I was driving down the road, I signaled for a left turn. When I signaled the turn, there was a buzzing noise in the steering column and the engine turned off, resulting in a complete loss of power to steering and brakes. Luckily, I was going about 10 mph and was able to stop the car, albeit in the middle of the street. I noticed the dashboard lights were on. The car restarted immediately and I drove it 1/2 block to a parking space. I subsequently took the car to fh dailey, the local chevy dealer. They told me there was a problem with the bcm (body control module) that had caused the engine to shut off while the car was being driven. They are replacing the bcm. They did not seem particularly concerned about the problem and my impression is it is not unusual for them to encounter it. I am concerned that, had I been driving in traffic, on the highway, or on a curving road, the engine failure could have resulted in significant injury or fatality to myself or others.

Some dealers goodwill the repair costs ($500-900), but others offer nothing more than an apology. Two recent tech. Service bulletins address this very issue.
