2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

I own a 2015 Malibu lt 2. 5l, I have not been able to pass the state required inspection due to a faulty oil control solenoid. (gm part #12633613 or gm part # 19419980) I have incurred over $1000 in diagnostic fees and taken the car to three (3) different independent mechanics and two (2) gm certified parts dealers trying to get this part replaced. Gm is no longer manufacturing and referring customers to aftermarket parts. (aftermarket part recommended is the dorman 916-806) in doing research trying to find this part it seems this same part has malfunctioned on every 2014-2015 year model Malibu and impala and gm is still not issuing a recall. I have filed customer service inquiries/complaints with multiple dealerships and gm directly. This is an egregious example of a manufacturing defect and they are offering no alternative other than buying a new car. The car is showing a code error p2646 (rocker arm malfunction in bank 1 stuck in off position). I have been attempting to rectify this problem since October 2019, and filed the official complaint with gm April,2020. Case # with gm 9-592-2813084.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the rpm gauge increased; however, the transmission gears failed to change over while the vehicle was driving on the highway. As a result, there was a drastic reduction in speed and the contact had to maneuver the vehicle with extreme difficulty to prevent a crash. Initially, performance Chevrolet (1005 w ehringhaus st, elizabeth city, nc 27909, 252-338-9100) was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure with the service center manager. Further diagnostic testing was not provided. A dealer test drove the vehicle with the contact and diagnosed that the spacer plate needed to be replaced. A loaner vehicle was provided for two days. The vehicle was not repaired and the contact wanted the vehicle bought back by the dealer if there was no solution. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/22/2019

Every time this has happened the car has been in motion. 3 times within a year this car has just died on me. Have all power to dashboard lights and radio but the engine shuts off and wont restart. First time I was told it was low on oil. Second time it sat for 2 days and cranked right up. 3rd time the plenum on the egr valve was cleaned. It seems odd to me that these 3 things would all cause the same exact issue. Thankfully it has not happened in heavy traffic and was able to coast out of the road.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated while driving. Once the engine was restarted, "reduced power" appeared on the instrument panel. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to serra Chevrolet (28111 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48034, (248) 354-6001) to be diagnosed, but the test could not read the codes. The dealer performed a system update. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,036.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

Vehicle went into engine power decreased unable to accelerate with the check engine light on as well as throttle sensor on. Took to dealer who checked all of the diagnostic codes and said it was fully operational. Again drove for about 1 month and same thing happened. Took it back in and Chevrolet dealer said it was the accelerator pedal sensor. We replaced the sensor being a $200 part last week and again the check engine light came on. When this happened we were on the highway in a snow storm and had our baby in the vehicle. It locked up and cars couldn't slow down appropriately. We left the highway for safety reasons and kept vehicle on as it was below 0 degrees outside!.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/03/2018

2/3/2018, outside temperature was15degrees fahrenheit . Traveling at 65 mph then suddenly vehicle slowed and a warning appeared on the dash, "engine power reduced" and two warning lights, traction and engine light. As I proceeded to my destination an engine over speed warning came on slowing the vehicle. Vehicles in the rear started passing my vehicle since I could not maintain the speed limit. This incident was a bit scary. Two codes were retrieved via on board diagnostics, p228d and p0089. Codes were cleared and things so far are ok. Mileage on the vehicle is 48,683.

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/27/2017

Vehicle was in motion at about 60 mph on a highway and the rpms dropped drastically, the anti skid indicator light came on, the vehicle lost power temporarilly. I pulled over and slowed down and the car returned to normal. Same evening vehicle was in motion about 55 mph on a highway when there was a loss of power, steering got sluggish, all indicatorlights on dash blinked on and off engine light came on and stayed on, anti skid indicator light came on, was knocking in motor and car would not accelerate over 20 mph. Completed a diagnosis of the vehicle and a code p0068 was noted by diagnostics. P0068 the engine and transmission system is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the throttle control system that connects the accelerator pedal with the throttle and integrates features such as cruise control, traction control, stability control, and pre-crash systems. If the check engine light is flashing, a misfire condition has been detected. A misfire increases vehicle emissions and could damage the emission control system on the vehicle. Please reduce vehicle speed, avoid hard accelerations, avoid steep uphill grades, and reduce any cargo loads such as a trailer. If the vehicle is continually driven with the check engine light on, the emission controls might not work as well, the vehicle fuel economy might not be as good, and the engine might not run as smoothly. This could lead to future repairs.

9 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Malibu while driving just has hot air blowing and while sitting room to dealership I bought it from and they can not duplicate the problem and says it is fine. It constantly blows hot air in 104 degree weather checked coolant and antifreeze and compressor still not working been trying to get it fixed but everyone cannot duplicate the problem.

10 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/25/2017

The vehicle continually goes into "engine low power mode" while on the highways. This is now occurring daily. I've tried to get it fixed but no one seems to know what it is. I am very fortunate that no one has hit me when the vehicle goes from high speeds down to 20 miles per hour with no response by pressing the gas pedal. There have been multiple things failing on this car: passenger side window no longer opens, cruise control will not work, 2 of the 3 chargers in the car do not work (after fixing those fuses, they just blew immediately) power locks went from barely working to not working at all, the latest being the low power mode and traction control being activated in the heat of a tennessee spring (already 80 degrees) - it's not a water issue. The first few months I had this car it was in the shop almost every weekend. I've gotten all the recalls fixed when they required it and I keep up with maintenance on this car. It has the usual break downs but this is the least safe car I have ever driven (and I have driven around twenty long term, ten more short term).

11 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/19/2016

First my dash cluster went out nothing work had a new one put in after about two week it went out again had it at the dealer they don't know why. So I did not replace it this time because I don't know if it well happen again the cost to replace is on me. Now I'm having motor is having a oil leak bad found out why the valevtrain oil control passages integrated has come apart and they will not cover it on warranty said that I did not change the oil when it came time to do I have it change all the time at the dealer when it come time when light come on to tell me. This is high dollar to paid for it as they said top of the motor has to be taken apart. And they would not let gm know of this.

12 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/22/2016

30 minute drive to work, in rain at approximately 32 degrees, vehicle was running good until I pulled into a parking spot and an error message appeared (reduced engine power). I later left and the service engine light remained on. I then received an error message (service esc) and later again received the (reduced engine power) while on the highway. It was snowing during this time. I was unable to fully accelerate but it felt as though the acceleration was not running well. I researched this issue and discovered many people/ chevy Malibu owners having the same issue with no resolution; even after taking to dealer on many occasions. Gm needs to recognize this issue and discover a resolution.

13 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle would fail to start in cold inclement weather. The contact stated that the vehicle would only start during temperatures higher than 40 degrees. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who replaced the battery, starter, alternator, neutral safety switch, crank shift sensor, and the exhaust system; however, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air conditioning compressor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 85,600.

15 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

After four (4) minutes of driving car at 6:30am in the morning, temperature was 58 degree on 7/21/2014, the engine shut off. All powered functions associated w/vehicle did not work. All idiot lights flashed on. The message in display was "engine disabled. " car was pulled over and shut off. After 4-5 minutes of rest, the car was re-started and driven back home about another two (2) miles.

16 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

In summer 2015 while using ac, heat randomly would blast out. (while idle or driving). Would have to restart car to get ac to work again. In the past 2 weeks dec15/jan16, engine overheated-idle indicator came on while driving on the highway, once at 65 mph, once at 30 mph. Then a few minutes later it would turn off. I looked at temp gauge, and it was not at an overheating level (half way only). Also, now heat only intermittently works. I will have to turn car on and off repeatedly, and turn ac on/off, heat on/off, defrost on/off, and sometimes the heat will finally get warm. Never seems to get hot like it's supposed to. Took to repair shop for the engine overheated/idle warning and stated nothing was wrong. Safety issue not having heat for front windshield defrost when it's under 30 degrees out. Mechanic said it's probably a computer issue with the car. But now I'm seeing this is a recurring problem with many car owners. Gm needs to recall, as this can be a safety concern!.

17 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/11/2014

Sitting at intersection, foot on brake, waiting for light to turn green, felt sudden power surge, thought someone hit me from behind, lights on dashboard read: reduced engine power, service esc, service engine icom appeared. Light turned green, had to cross 5 lanes of state highway. Car would barely move, light turned red, pulled to side of road as best I could account 5 ft snow piles alongside road. Minus 6 degrees out. Shut car off for approx. 5 min. Started car and could drive it to first parking lot about 3/4 mile. Had car towed to Chevrolet dealer, was told it was a defective throttle position sensor. Throttle body assembly replaced under warranty. Service technician told me he's had alot of these failures and it's due to extensive cold weather. I feel Chevrolet should order a recall and take care of these vehicle problems before someone gets injured or killed. Car just ended warranty period this week, other owners should not have to pay for this repair cost if their car is no longer under warranty.

18 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

I been running errands. I stopped the car to go into the store, got back into the vehicle and the ignition would not turn over. I was stranded with my 5 year old, had to get a tow to repair shop. I was told the ignition switch was bad, cost me $347. 00. On 12/29/11 same issue, car would not start this time luckily I was at home. I had to get a tow to the repair another $51. 00 and was told the ignition switch must have had a default and I received a new ignition switch, at no charge. Two days ago, almost 2 weeks after last repair, it happened again this time in the parking lot 12 degrees outside car would not turn over called a tow to the repair shop and was told all this time it was the auto theft system was bad and caused the car to not start and also was the cause of the ignition switch to not start the car. I was charged 388. 00, plus a tow fee, for the repair of a new ignition lock cylinder( the part used a the auto theft system). Basically , this auto theft system has caused me over 700 in a month time and left me in dangerous areas with no way of getting home. This needs to reimbursed by gm because if this auto theft system was placed on the car as a benefit and protection to the owner of the car to stop theft it is not helping the owner at all only putting the owner in more harm because it is causing the owner to not be able to start the car with the key. How much since does that make? this is something extra added to the car that is not needed; that is why we have car alarms. I don't need them to add an auto theft system to my car and it stops me from being able to get into the car and drive. What if there was an emergency I needed to deal with, I have children in the home. The last time the car wouldn't start it was only 12 degrees outside and freezing cold. Please tell me how to get a petition of a recall for reimbursement for repairs. This is unsafe!.

19 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/07/2010

The vehicle is a 2010 chevy Malibu. I bought the vehicle brand new and it now has 758 mile on it. It stalls while doing speeds above 25 miles per hour. The steering becomes dificult, the brakes become less than efficient and it happens without warning. Every time this issue has happened it was above 90 degrees outside. It happened 4 times in 758 miles. They are looking at it at the dealership now and I have 2 other aquaintences that have the same car with the same issues.

20 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/30/2010

My 2006 Malibu maxx has 73000 miles on it. While driving, the air conditioning stopped blowing cool air. The outside temp was 95 degrees and my daughter and I both have asthma. Took the car to the dealer today and will cost $1100 to repair and replace the a/c compressor! a car this young should not have this problem. My daughter and I were both using inhalers by the time we arrived back home!.

21 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/27/2010

New Malibu 2010 (14 miles on odometer on 02/27/2010) has severe problem with the engine. Upon starting vehicle, it has a very strong vibration and looks like engine may stop running every minute. When accelerating, engine provides noise and vibration and engine generates rattling noise. It is unsafe to drive this vehicle. Dealership where vehicle was bought on 02/26/2010 does not like take to provide repair or so on. Gm does not respond to our e-mails and calls, but when complaint was submitted to bbb we got a call that said that it is gm legal department - no last name or position, and the person started to intimidate us. The consumer stated when ascending a slope, not even 30 degrees, and have to stop, the vehicle began to slide back immediately once the accelerator pedal was released, before applying the brake. Updated 06/30/10.

22 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/25/2008

Vehicle stalls intermittently when stopped and idling. This occurs when backing up and also when idling. It seems to occur more so when the air temperature outside is very hot. Usually when it is around 85 - 90 degrees outside. Vehicle usually restarts ok. Only one instance when engine was turned off twice while idling, it would not restart until engine cooled down. Then was able to start engine. Mechanics have not been able to detect problem even when vehicle was scanned for codes. Have taken it to different automotive service shops including dealerships and no one can find the problem because they state it is intermittent. Air temperature outside of vehicle seems to be a key factor with car stalling when temperature very hot. The car has never overheated when this occurs.

23 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/26/2007

My car had to have the thermostat, pleninum gasket, intake gasket, egr gasket, valve cover gaskets replaced for the second time since I have had this car. I was told that it was because of the dex-cool antifreeze that is used in these cars warps the gaskets and seals. I am very disappointed that this has happened to my car. I do not have the money to be replacing these gaskets twice. I would like gm to reimburse me some of my finances that have cost to have this problem fixed for the second time. This time it cost me $222. 00 for a rental car and $976. 00 for repairs.

24 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/17/2005

Myself and many other 2001 chevy Malibu owners have had to replace all the major engine gaskets in their cars. I am disabled an the car would stall everywhere putting my safety in jepordy. The engine can't maintain compression because of the leaks. Gm refuses to even resond to my emails. I urge you to check into this matter. I even had to replace the air conditioner. It's not fair to the consumer to let gm get away with this. It has cost a lot of money not to mention the safety factor. Please check the mycarstats. Com to see all the other complaints. Egr valve also had to be replaced. In the process of filing my complaint with the bbb and the doj the dealer inadvertly provided documentation that tha engine had been leaking before we purchased it.

25 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/17/2005

5/05 coolant leak- replace intake manifold gasket $1100. 00 8/05 coolant leak(continued)- replace head gasket, completely replace the air conditioning unit-$1085. 00 1/06 replace egr valve, solenoid, gaskets $435. 00 I've been around cars all my life, my father was a mechanic. My point is that I know if you take care of a car it will last longer. I take very good care of this car and I know gaskets should not deteriorate the way these did. Looking at the reports on mycarstats. Com it appears to me that what ever material was used for the gaskets in this car must be defective. There are way too many complaints for this to be any thing else. Maintaining my car is a priority for me as I am disabled. To have a mechanical breakdown is a major issue. This cars engine was unable to maintain compression because of the leaky gaskets. It kept stalling repeatedly, I feel putting my safety at risk. I have tried to work this out with the dealership but it's clear to me what their priority is and it's not me or my car. I believe there should be an investigation into this matter. I have been told that the gasket material they used in this model was different from other years. I believe this is a bigger problem than gm is ready to admit.

26 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/26/2004

In November of 2004, car stalled while driving and would not restart. Got it towed to repair shop. Was told that fuel pump had gone out. Paid $350 for repairs. Replaced pump and car stalled again after driving about 150 miles on highway. Luckily (wife and our 2 kids were with me and it was 15 degrees f outside) it restarted and was able to make it home another 100 miles away. Took it to dealer (ogden Chevrolet-630-986-8000) to get it checked. Was told that it had a bad intake gasket and needed new water pump and drive belt-total cost approx $1100. 00. Got the water pump and belt replaced but not intake gasket. Paid $500 for repairs. Did research on the internet and found that this was a recurring problem. Gm had more than 900 complaints about bad intake gaskets causing expensive repairs on their vehicles 2 weeks later, car would not start. Towed it to repair shop. Was told that 2 ignition coils were burnt and needed replaced. Got this done with new plugs, wires and tune up and antifreeze. Paid $520 for repairs. Feb 2, car would not start again. Got it towed to repair shop. Car started ok and could not replicate problem. Was told that the head gasket was blown and would need replaced. Costs $700-$1000.

27 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/08/2004

The contact had the egr valve, thermostat, water pump, intake gasket, and head gasket replaced. Additionally, she had the block inspected for cracks. It has been 18 months since the replacement of the aforementioned defects, and the check engine light came on again ,and there was a decrease in the amount of gas mileage. The dealer reprogrammed the computer, and informed the contact that the vehicle was running properly. The manufacturer has only offered a discount on a new vehicle.

28 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/24/2004

I bought my 1998 chevy Malibu with 51,133 miles on it. It started to leak anti freeze shortly after I bought the car (73,753 miles). It ended up being a replacement of the camshaft sensor, replace water pump, replace rt. C. V shaft and replace seal sleeve. The egr gasket was also replaced. The total cost of this repair was 874. 52 labor and parts included.

29 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/07/2003

Engine has experienced "valve-slap" since approx 5000 miles. The dealer advised that this is inherent in the design of this particular engine to make it economical. Chevrolet offered 100,000 mile extended warranty on the engine. The (check engine) light activated several months ago. Code indicated "small emissions leak". Made sure gas cap was on tight, then cleared code with reader - issue resolved. Approx a month ago, check engine light on again. Code was p1404 (temporary code). Tried to clear out code with reader, came back. Dealer advised that this was caused by faulty egr valve so replaced the egr valve with genuine chevey part, cleared code with reader - approx 20 miles later (check engine) light back on. I suspect that issue is related to the valve-slap problem and related wear on pistons.

30 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/21/2003

My 2001 Malibu has 45,000miles and I now have to change the intake manifold gasket, because it is leaking coolant. This I'm told is a frequent problem with the Malibu 3. 1 liter motor. Is this possible? I've never heard of such a thing? I also have had the egr valve changed 3 times by the dealer. It now seems to be fixed?.

31 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/10/2003

I have had my rotors reground numerous times over the past one and a half years as well as have had both bearings replaced in the front. I had all valves replaced on the coolant system and it continues to leak still. There is a strong oder that comes in through the airconditioning vents. There is also a strong vibration when braking or traveling at higher speeds which makes the vehicle difficult to control.
