2004 chevy Malibu. Problem with steering. Steering wheel wants to tug repeatedly to the left. If I barely touch the steering wheel and put a little pressure either to right or left, the steering wheel by itself tugs up and down. At higher speeds I can feel in hands occasionally tugging. Hope it don't decide one day to just do a hard turn into oncoming traffic. Was told that it most likely is the steering assist on the column. Why can't gm just have put a regular steering pump like everyone else.

2005 Malibu maxx have a "power steering motor (electrical)" versus a power steering pump. The vehicle losses power steering due to electrical issues (3500 rpm see tbs 08-02-32-005) my vehicle had this happen dealership said it was due to time/mileage failure of steering column sensor. . . . . I had to pay $1200. 00 for new column and motor for what I believe is a safety and design flaw.

There was a recall regarding rack and pinion steering. This has been repaired and replaced twice. The vehicle still has problems with the steering system. Contact took the vehicle to a service dealer, and they concluded that it was a power steering pump pulley. The contact has not had this repaired, the vehicle is at the dealership at this date.

I bought a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu new in 2005. Since then, we repeatedly lost steering with the car. I was only recently made aware that there were ¿issues with the power steering motor on these vehicles. They do not have the conventional power steering pump, but have an electrical power steering ¿motor. No recall was issued. Gm knew. I visited my local junkyard the other day. There are many of these cars with front end damage. I can only surmise how many accidents/injuries/fatalities were the result of this steering flaw. Gm never informed me of the potential risks. (I did not move or change address. ) I found out via the internet. I now see where gm is involved in yet another safety issue, ignition switches. Is there an investigation ongoing on these steering issues? someone is going to get killed.
Intermittently power steering assist failed while driving. When this occurred the steering wheel became difficult to turn. Then, power steering assist suddenly engaged, sometime resulting in over steering. Dealership performed a diagnostic test that indicated that power steering pump needed to be replaced.

Complaint received via e-mail. While my family and I were driving home from a restaurant accelerator pedal locked open while approaching our exit. It was only by my quick reaction and cool head that my family was spared a horrendous accident. Vehicle was towed to a dealership. Just last week the power steering pump failed, and needed to be replaced. . This tribute was a nightmare, considering the age of this vehicle and only 45,000 kilometers.
Steering wheel column pump broke. Couldn't steer vehicle. Dealership was aware of problem.
Dealer replaced power steering pumps on two occasions, and problem was reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.

Power steering pump is making a grinding sound at any time, any speed. Dealer has replaced pump 3 times, remedies the problem only for a while, then the grinding sound comes back.
