2 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/02/2020

3 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

I own a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu ltz and I can be driving down the highway and the service stabilitrack light will come on, then it will say reduced engine power. I will have to pull over, turn car off, and let it sit for a minute or two, then crank back up and those lights will go off, but the service engine light will come on. Sometimes I have to do this every 5-10 miles, depending on the distance of my destination, which poses a safety issue for me, especially if I'm traveling at night. This mostly happens when I'm driving on the highway.

4 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/02/2019

On June 30, 2019, I was driving my Chevrolet Malibu hybrid home on the freeway when suddenly the engine lost power and stalled. The service engine soon light turned on and a message on the dashboard said shift to park. I coasted to the next exit and stopped on the side of a street. I pressed the off button and shifted to park. I tried to turn on the car and it wouldn't even crank the engine. I called aaa and after 10 to 15 minutes the service engine soon light turned off. I tried again to start the car and it turned on. I canceled aaa and drove the car home. After a couple of days, I decided to scan the trouble codes in the car with my code scanner. The report said four confirmed trouble codes, no permanent trouble codes, no pending trouble codes, no body control module trouble codes, 1 telematics trouble codes, no human machine interface module trouble codes, and four electronic brake control module trouble codes. I saved the report and reset the trouble codes. Copy of the report attached. Then on July 2, 2019, I was driving on the city street and the car stalled again with the same message to shift to park. I coasted to the side of the road and pressed the off button and shifted to park. I tried to start the car and it did start and I drove it home. Next day I scanned the trouble codes again. The report said no confirmed trouble codes, no permanent trouble codes, no pending trouble codes, 2 body control module trouble codes, 3 front camera active safety trouble codes, 3 transfer case control module trouble codes, and 1 electronic brake control module trouble codes. I saved the report, copy attached. Next day I took the car to the dealer for trouble shooting, and repair under warranty.

6 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

This was 3rd time I took the car into the dealer because the service engine soon light appears randomly and the ignition fails to turn on. I have to turn the key a few times to get it started. My car was seen thurs, was told no issue was found and manager would drive car home in evening to test. Called today, Friday in afternoon since I didnt get a call, was told it was the battery. Had to pay $260 for battery. The past two other visits, I was told battery was good and now its bad. . . Was just leaving the dealer, I stopped at first light and notice the check engine light is on! returned back to dealer and was told that it was something else. Nothing to do with battery yet according to them, they said it was because of the battery. My car was left for the 4th time in dealership so they can look at it. A code appeared and tech told me it had to do with the auto stop! this has been going on since end of Jan!! please investigate. I have seen a lot of complaints about this issue. . I am the original owner. I bought car oct 2015. I dont understand how the battery had bad cells all of a sudden.

7 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/27/2017

Engine power reduced, traction control, service engine light the first time the issue occurred, my car was in park. I started my vehicle, it didnt turn over on the first try, I simply tried again and it started but a service message popped up stating "engine power reduced and my car would not accelerate at all, my traction control light came on as well as service engine soon. I let my car sit for a while and decided to turn my car off and try again, same message, several hours later it started fine, the heck engine light was on and I drove it with no issues, started my car again and the check engine light turned off. About a week later, this happened again, same circumstances. About 2 weeks later, while driving down the road, this happened again and my car slowed down drastically and wouldnt exceed 10 mph. The next time I drove the vehicle my car flashed a warned message simply stating " power steering" with no noticeable signs of loss of power steering, however last year I had to replace a sensor for my power steering that was a recall, when I brought it to a dealership to be fixed they claimed my recall was fixed and they wouldnt cover the cost, after replacing the recall affect sensor I no longer had the issue, I have replaced several parts to try to fix this issue, so the fault is currently unknown. I have researched this issue and seen that many other people have had this issue. Gm has done nothing to fix this very dangerous condition.

8 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

The service engine light has been on for 3 years. Chevy has been unable to diagnose the issue despite changing out the sensors and clearing the codes. This effects the rest of the engine settings including fuel as it adjusts them based on a default. The rail support for the driver's seat has also broken loose and fallen down which makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. This seat issue was only notice earlier this year.

Suddenly my traction light and service engine light came on and the reduced power notification came on, the car slowed to about 10 miles an hour very suddenly and the car was shaking violently. Pulled to side of road, waited and restarted car, worked fine for about an hour. This problem has happened multiple times on highway and in city - very dangerous. Dealership has been no help to fix the problem. Replaced throttle body and two sensors and issue still remains.

10 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

My service esc, service traction, service engine lights came on. Took my car to dealership where they couldn't duprivate the issue. $240. Problem came bk the next day. Took my car bk to shop with light on and they said I needed an engine flush. 180. 00. Problem still came back. Took my car to another shop, bc I felt I was getting taken advantage of after being charged 180. 00 just for diagnostic. This shop changed spark plugs and checked wires. 100. 00. Problem came back. Got in touch w gm. No recall. No assistance until I took my car back to dealership. They kept my car for 4 days and finally told me I need a new motor! it's a 2011, with 110k miles and I need a new motor?? that it would be 4000. 00 I left with my car, because I don't have that kind of money just laying around in hopes that it might fix the problem. Driving a car that scares me bc the lights are constantly flashing at me all of the time now, car sputtering out while at low speeds or idle, CO engine flashing, and my car acting like it's gonna die any minute! not to mention the gas it's consuming on top of the almost 700 I'm already out. This is dangerous and quite disheartening to but a car from Chevrolet, it only be 5 yrs old and have this many issues with no resolve. Seeing all of the other complaints similar to mine, someone is going to get hurt. Please help.

11 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

While on my way to work, suddenly my traction light and service engine light came on and the reduced power notification came on moments later, the car slowed to about 10-20 mph(like it almost died but still running) and the car was shaking. I could not accelerate, I coasted into a parking lot and it was idling rough. I shut it off, waited a few moments and started it like nothing happened. I was scared and just wanted to get home and borrow another car to get to work. I was less than a mile away from home, and managed to get it home. While returning home it did the same thing but, it added a new code disabled engine. I have read these forums, and I don't have extra money to waist on replacing parts that do not fix the problem. It seems to be a common issue with gm, I don't want to be giving the run around with bs reason, I want to fix my car.

13 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

I would like to commend your company for making a durable product. However, I purchase a 2003 chev-malibu in 2004 from carmax-raliegh, n. C. According to the carfax, there was only one previous owner. I purchased the extended warranty for only three years and had the vehicle serviced by rick hendrix Chevrolet in durham, n. C. After the warranty expired, I would take my vehicle to a certified mechanic in norfolk, va that I have dealt for the past 20 years. Consequently, I would have repairs done and he kept the car running as required. However, about year 2010, during regular maintenance - the check engine light came on, followed by the service engine light - then the vehicle would start but no display on the dash and no electrical functions worked? about 5-10 minutes later with car still running - the dash would light up and electrical functions operable. My mechanic was able to eliminate to check engine/service engine displays with required maintenance. However, the dash display and power loss continued? he decided to replace the ignition switch and shortly afterwards the same problems reappeared? now I have two separate keys, one for door/trunk locks and one for the ignition. Presently, even after maintenance, the vehicle has started missing/putting or possibly losing power? I contacted gm (800)222-1020 and (800)630-2438 and was told that my vehicle was not on the gm recall list? can you confirm that information and the reason why it is not on the list? do I really need to wait until my family is injured or worst before a defect is acknowledge?.

14 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

This has happened to me 6 times now. The first time this happened, I was about 70 miles outside of atlanta going 70 mph on the highway surrounded by 18 wheelers. Suddenly my traction light and service engine light came on and the reduced power notification came on, the car slowed to about 10 miles an hour very suddenly and the car was shaking violently. The 18 wheeler behind me could not stop fast enough and the only reason I was not hit was because I was able to veer onto the shoulder. Terrified, I sat on the side of the road for several minutes after turning the car off. I started it again and it began driving normally, but the service engine light stayed on. Since I was pretty much in the middle of nowhere and it was extremely dark, I got back on the road again to get home. I made it to atlanta, but the same thing happened again when I was entering the city on the loop. I basically coasted home. Since then, this has happened 5 more times. My car is currently at jim ellis Chevrolet in atlanta where I left it last night. Need immediate help. My entire story can be found on this forum. . Read more...

16 Service Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Since I purchased my car in the later part of 2012 (used with 40000mi) I have had several incidents starting with the radio, when I turned on the rear defrost the radio would go to complete static on all stations. While traveling approx. 30mph the service engine light would come on then after stopping the car and restarting the light would go off as well as minimal turning to the right the service esc light would display, in addition to the remote start not working half the time, I have replaced the key fob and gotten a new key and still the same problem exist. The dealership has replaced the radio with a brand new part and still the stations are not clear and while sitting in the car parked all of the lights in the dash sometimes come on for service and the car would idle low then high. The lights in the dash will sometimes completely dim and the display on the radio will be digital. My car now has about 65000 miles on it, and still the car sometimes stalls at stop signs, will be without power and the service esc displays as well as service engine. This has happed too many times to count at this point. Tuesday may 6 2014 my husband was driving approx. 25mph all the lights in dash came on and engine stalled on him so he restarted the car, upon restarting all the lights in the display turned off. Saturday may 10 2014 the radio was complete static. . . This is a constant issue, I keep my gas tank plentiful and have only owned gm vehicles. I am researching other makes at this point.
