I have owned my 2006 chevy Malibu since later 2018. It is now Nov 1st 2020. A few months after I got the vehicle I had issues. I have had all recalls replaced by fredericksburg virginia chevy dealership (they say that they did?) the entire time I have owned this vehicle the steering vibrates at high speeds. Also the entire time I've owned this car, when I speed up any hills my steering locks up my battery light comes on and the car pulls to the left or right depending. This is extremely unsafe! dealer didn't know what could cause it. I learned to immediately take my foot off the gas and the steering goes back to normal. This is not easy on a curvy hill road. This can cause a serious wreck. I have a 10 month old baby. This is frightening if it one day it doesn't fix by taking my foot off the pedal. Now my steering is stiff and is so hard to turn when driving at slow speed. The steering motor recall has already been replaced says the dealer. So why is it going bad again? it has only been 30,000 miles later. Why am I having a stiff steering wheel again if they replaced it? the tc light came on within hours of the steering going stiff. Why does chevy distribute vehicles with such safety issues? I should not have to pay for the steering to be fixed/replaced again! dangerous chevy vehicle.

Whenever the car starts, the service esc lights come on and stay on. Steering wheel is very hard to turn and won't turn unless the car is in motion thus causing me to wrestle with the steering wheel to make a right or left turn. Every mechanic I've seen told me to trade it in because the repairs are quite expensive. They mentioned something about replacing the entire steering column. They also couldn't service the power steering because it's strictly electronic. This is not safe for me or my family because who knows when it will lock up for good while I'm driving. This has been going on for the past month. Please help me.
After pulling away from espresso stand the power steering on 2009 chevy Malibu completely failed w/out warning. This occurred as I was just going into a right hand turn in a parking lot at approximately 5 to 10mph. I nearly hit the drivers door of a vehicle in the intersection as they were taking a left turn into the parking lot. The steering was extremely difficult and required both hands. I came to a stop as I completed the turn, just before the parking lot exited to a side road. The truck behind me was honking and my vehicle was barely positioned safely on 'my' side of the driveway. I had no choice but to turn right onto the roadway and pull as far off to the shoulder as I could. The shoulder; is about two car lengths long before it turns into a sidewalk. It should have been an easy task however, due to the steering I could barely get off the roadway- my front tires all but resting on the start of the sidewalk. The message center on my dash read "power steering" followed by "service esc" and the esc/ traction control indicator light on the dash was lit up. I called for help & they arrived within minutes. We are unable to access the power steering unit as is located underneath the alternator, and requires removal of the alternator. About 30 min after incident I moved car back several feet - steering was still hard. I turned it off. A few minutes later I turned back on. Still getting message, but decided to drive the 5 mi back since only 2 turns were necessary. One person helping was in front and one person following. It was uneventful however warning indicators were still on & steering extremely difficult. 3hrs later I turn car on to get mileage and noticed that indicators are off. Tested the steering- it has resumed to normal. Vehicle is driven approximately 8mi hm. Message displayed twice during this drive. Vehicle had pre-trip inspection 1wk prior. 108k mile.
2006 chevy Malibu maxx. Power steering message displayed on radio screen. When this happened steering wheel was very hard to turn. Happened upon starting vehicle, while driving at any speed, and during turns. There are recalls for this issue for same year, make, and model, however gm says mine VIN didn't fall within the recall.
Steering wheel is hard to turn and has a hesitation when turning.
Power steering notification comes on dash and steering wheel is hard to turn. I turn the car off and restart and then its fine but shortly after driving notice flashes on dash again and am unable to turn steering wheel.
Steering wheel was extremely hard to turn. Driver info panel displayed power steering. I turned car off and back on and it was normal again. But the steering wheel while driving down the road and stopped twitches back and forth. The power steering has went out several times over the last few days. The twitching is constants as long as car is started or key turned to supply power. There are thousands of reports - why is this not a safety hazard? first the dealer said that they would fix it at no charge - then they said that it would be $750 to fix it.

Wanted to update my case 11173286. I took the car to Chevrolet dealer to have car repaired 02/05/2019. Apparently Chevrolet knows they have a problem with the steering because it was covered under a special warranty. They replaced the steering torque sensor and motor part numbers 23232310 sensor kit and 22837369 module. I think this is a serious problem because if it had happened when my wife was driving she would of had a real problem because the steering wheel is very hard to turn. She would not know if you restart the car the steering works again. She probably would just stopped the car where ever she was and cause a traffic problem. Also there was not any warning that steering was going to go bad. It happened to me 5 times before I had it fixed. The problem would any place. I have happen on the street going 45 mph, turning a corner, backing our of my driveway, 2 times on a city street under 30 mph. If you go online there are other people complaining about the same problem.
Out of nowhere started my car to go to work and my steering wheel was extremely hard to turn. Driver info panel displayed power steering. I turned car off and back on and it was normal again. But the steering wheel while driving down the road and stopped twitches back and forth. The power steering has went out several times over the last few days. The twitching is constants as long as car is started or key turned to supply power. I done a recall search via VIN and it returned no recalls. This should be recalled as I have read thousands of people with the same issues reported. It's a safety hazard to anyone driving and those around when it fails.
When I turn my car on service power steering drive with care warning signs comes on and my steering wheel is very hard to turn wont allow me to turn all the way left or right so I basically get stuck on the streets intersections parking lots steering wheel is stiff the warning sign would come off every time I would hit a bump but now its so hard and stiff to turn I have to use full force just to make a turn. I take it in an d they said they cannot figure out why very frustrated and very scary.

For the last three days my 2010 Malibu is experiencing a problem with the steering. Every time I turn my car on it says service esc and my steering is super hard to work with. I can't steer my car at all. I have to shut my car off and reset the engine until the service esc goes away. I was driving home from work today and it went off while I was driving and I couldn't steer my car at all. I had to pull over which was tough because there was some traffic. I've been looking all over online and most people say there is a recall for the steering column but my car's VIN isn't popping up for any of the recalls. Which is crazy because my car is doing the same stuff the people who got it fixed for free.
I was driving a couple days after buying thos vehicle & noticed that my power steering message came on on my dash. A few days later the steering wheel was harder to control & when I was parked my steering wheel would move on it's own. I looked online to try to figure out why it could be doing that because I had never had a car with electronic power steering & I saw that I was 1 of many people who has the same problem with the same make & model car, some of which have a recall for that very reason. I feel like it is very dangerous now driving because the steering wheel feels like it is moving on it's own while driving.

My steering wheel is hard to turn at startup, like it is manual or metal on metal feel like there is no lubrication. It is surely not safe to even back out of the driveway let alone drive it. I looked to see if there was no steering fluid but learned there is no such thing on this make/model but that it uses electrical steering assist instead. I have seen many complaints on the web regarding steering assist on this model and I know my local dealer told me there was a recall and had worked on the steering and replaced something there at some point because of the recall yet my VIN search show nothing on this site. It doesn't even show past recall work!.
I am constantly getting a warning that my power steering is out and "service esc". I restart the vehicle and it goes away for a short amount of time then I have the same warning sign on the dash and the steering is hard again.
Power steering issue started in December 2017 to present. When I would start my car it was hard to turn the steering wheel this has happen 34 times I had to turn the car off then restart the car problem went a away 4 times while driving on down the street and highway the power steering would go out. Have to stop turn the car off. Restart the car. Chevy on January 26, 2018 I have call about this problem they have told me there is a recall the number is 15356 corporate office told me to take it to a dealer see if a code shows up if the problem goes away. And no code there is nothing they can do about it. I have told them anything happens I will hold them responsible. I have taken my car to the dealer they ran a test told me no code came up. The last time was not good. On April 25 2018 I have to start my car 3 times do to the steering wheel was hard to turn message came up saying service esc then esc is off. When leave from the place I was at the same thing happen again. But while driving on the street the power steering went out had to come to a stop. Turn the car off, and on so I could drive home. This 2 times on the same night. Mileage was around 89,000 not sure.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the eps warning indicator illuminated. The steering wheel was tight and was difficult to turn. The vehicle was not inspected by an independent mechanic or a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a power steering recall for this specific year, make, and model; however, the 2006 model had been recalled. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
While driving the lights went dim and the steering was hard, the information panel on the car said "power steering", the car finally stopped running and had to jump start the car. This has happened five times now. Gm says there is no recall on this but I noticed several recalls similar to this and with a lifetime service to replace the electric assist.

The vechile lost speed as I was driving into a parking space. I then put it in park. At that point the engine light was blinking. The car was shaking uncontrollably as if it would all just fall apart in pieces. The steering wheel was hard to turn and also rapidly shaking. The service esc, service traction control, and a light with a car on a curved road was also on. This almost caused me to hit a parked car in front of me. I turned the car off and then back on and all the lights were off. I believe it to be the streering coloumn or an electrial issue. I read on some recalls and I think it is similar to the recall #14e044000. However, when I search my VIN it is not listed under it. Yet it is the same issue.
Sitting at a stop sign and my service esc light came on. As I turned onto the highway I noticed my steering wheel was very tight and the power steering light was also on. It was very hard to turn the steering wheel. I immediately pulled over, and turned the car off.
Takata recall I bearly merged on the highway and my car,s steering wheel got hard to manuever and the vwhicle started slowing down. I had to struggle to slowly pull over my car on side of highway amd turned it off. My car wouldnt start up amd when it did my steering wheel was hard to turn.
I started the car then began to pull away from park. The driver's info display had a message pop up - something about steering, or esc, or something like that. I think it went off or maybe it went off when I stopped the car and shut the engine off to try and reset the system. While the engine was still running when I was starting to pull away from park, the steering wheel was extremely hard to turn. I shut the car off and restarted it and it seemed fine. Now, there is a grumbling sound coming from the steering column and wheel shakes a little. The service engine light is on but I have not had it read yet to see what codes come up.
Esc traction esc power steering light comes on and car bogs down and steering is hard to control. Took Malibu to dealership 3 times for the same esc problem with no resolution and thousand spent.
2013 Chevrolet Malibu (lt) has been experiencing serve electrical issues. This highly dangerous defect I have been experiencing as well yet there is no recall! first the my link/navigation/radio module would shut off and come back on. While this occurs, the battery voltage would jump down then jump back up. I called chevy/GMC and they recommended to shut the car off, remove the key, open the driver side door so the computer can reset itself. It continued to happy through the course of couple hours then finally stopped and was working from over the course of 4 days. As of yesterday the vehicle completely shut off, entire touchscreen module shut off, and turned back on in a split second. Once the car turned on, the steering wheel was completely tight, almost locked, and we would barely turn into our driveway while in motion on a 25pm street. Thank god I was not coming off a highway or driving fast like reports of this issue like other consumers but this is dangerous. I am terrified of this vehicle and will be taking it to chevy. There are over a hundred complaints and videos I saw after I looked up if this issue was common, which it appears to be, online. This issue needs to be on the recall list because this can cause accidents and someone can get seriously injured.

Takata recall/ I have a 2006 chevy Malibu and in the past month every time I change the turn signals and brake light bulbs they are always blowing for no reason. And my car is starting to get a loud sound when I drive it and steering is getting hard sometime. I've looked for power steering to check fluid but everyone says mine is electric so I took it to auto zone and they said it was electric and I needed to fix the torque sensor assembly in my steering. I pretty sure there is a recall on that part. And also I think there a recall on a part on my transmutation. I'm trying to find out about recalls on my car. Can someone help me cause I've got my kids and grandkids that ride in it every day. Please help me.
When the car was started the information panal was not reading, it consisted of mostly dashes. The car was running much louder than normal and the check engine light came on. It started saying service traction and engine power loss. I placed the car in drive, the interior lights started flashing and locks went up and down rapidly. I shut the car off and re started it, attempted to see if it would drive but it had no power, could only reverse and there seemed to be no power steering. The next day I started the car again, this time no immediate issue until I pulled out on to the street. The steering wheel was tight, and the car failed to accelerate. Loss of engine power was on the dash, engine and traction lights remained on. Restarted the car and I was able to park again. The car remains at the dealer after being towed a week ago, and they are unsure of the cause. This is extremely dangerous, especially if it were to happen on the highway I would not have had any control of the car and most definitely would have caused an accident.
