The smell of fuel prompted the consumer to make contact with the manufacture and the dealer since there was a fuel tank recall. The consumer located a crack on the fuel tank.

Gas gauge in dash set does not register and the entire dash component must be replaced. Tank is full, but gauge registers e, sending unit alright, problem is in the dash set up.

Failure Date: 08/21/2001

I have had nothing but problems with the brake system in my 1999 Chevrolet Malibu. Replaced calipers, bearings,rotors,of course pads. Now my abs light comes on and off (idiot light) also the gas gauge malfunctions when it gets to 1\4 tank also my climate control fan won't work on the 1st 3 speeds.

39 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/29/2001

Consumer stated the vehicle stalled without warning for 2 years. The wires powering the fuel pump motor in the fuel tank module were replaced. The fuel tank was replaced with a new tank and so far no stalling had occurred. There were 5 attempts to remedy the problem. The consumer requested reimbursement and expected gm to discuss the problem and the fuel tank module design improvement.

40 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/22/2000

When applying brakes at 40 mph vehicle shakes. Dealer replaced front rotors at 3000 miles. However, problems persisted, dealer did not replace rotors again. Last visit to dealer consumer was escorted off the lot. Dealer refused to look at vehicle. Consumer also states there is a fule systems problem, the fuel will splash back at consumer when filling up tank, and a lot of fuel spills on the ground, also the rear brakes in wet weather, howl when accelerating.

41 Tank Assembly problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/27/1999

Driver ran over an object in the vehicle and it ruptured the gas tank, allowing fuel leakage. This is due to the tank being mounted under the rear seats. Dealer said it was a road hazard. Consumer wants cost for fuel tank replacement to be covered by dealer.
