Just over 37000 miles, car starts running funny, alot of vibration in steering wheel. I get out of the car one day, I leave it running, I get back in just a minute and a half later the engine light is flashing along with the stabilitrack light and the car is really running rough and steam or smoke is coming from engine compartment. I took it in to the dealership they told me I would have to pay a couple hundered dollars for diagnosis. I call back the next day they tell me engine compression is low and chances are it's a cracked piston ring. I asked what could possibly cause that in a 2016, not even a two year old car? I was told that these parts wear, I mean if I could tell you why it's happening or what the cause was there would never be any problems, just be glad it's covered under your powertain warranty. I've driven chevys for twenty years and never had any problems like this, at the most serious problems have been the water pump. I've gone online since to search for info on this exact problem and there are so many complaints about this same problem. This sounds like a recall to me Chevrolet, gm.

Since we bought this car the check engine light has come on every few months. The engine has been rebuilt to fix "a stuck cylinder" and the water pump had to be replaced. The check engine light is on again and it seems that the car has no pick up when the gas pedal is pushed. It seems to hesitate. This is the worst care I have ever owned.
The engine overheated while driving on the highway, it lost power and started smoking. The temperature gauge dropped to zero and was forced to pull off onto the shoulder and be towed to a service station because the vehicle was no longer operable. The mechanic stated that the engine was damaged due to a coolant leak from the water pump. The vehicle had 98,616 miles at the time of this incident. The engine had to be replaced at great cost and inconvenience! gm issued a bulletin for what sounds like the same problem with the Chevrolet cruze (2011-2014) and sonic (2012-2014). It is bulletin no. : 14371b. I called gm to request reimbursement but they say no action can be taken because there is no bulletin or recall for this problem for the 2011 chevy Malibu.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact took the vehicle in for an oil change and was informed by the dealer that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. It was diagnosed that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,400.
Purchased vehicle used from a dealership. Over heating issues began within 3 months. Had thermostat replaced. Always seemed to have to be adding water as the reservoir was low or the indicator light would come on. 18 months later over heating issues returned while driving home on highway. When vehicle could no longer run, we had to have it towed home. Have now replaced thermostat and water pump. Issue remains, but worse. Low water and now check engine lights are on. All indications suggest head gasket issues which will ultimately result in complete engine failure. As such, the vehicle cannot be safely driven and remains parked. No such issues were disclosed at the time of purchase. Only learned extent of problem after researching issue online to find many, many other owners of this vehicle type experiencing same problems. Chevrolet showed little concern when contacted. Representative apologized, but as there is no recall would only suggest taking the vehicle to a dealership for diagnosis and repair. Owner is a disabled veteran on a fixed income. Chevrolet's suggestion is simply not financially feasible and leaves the owner without reliable transportation to and from appointments. He cannot use this vehicle for the purposes for which it was intended. Furthermore, online reports also suggest the problem remains or returns even after lengthy and expensive repairs are made. Once again, creating considerable hardship to this owner who now feels as though he was robbed first by the dealership where he purchased the vehicle for their nondisclosure and now by Chevrolet for their negligent design, quality and workmanship as well as their complete lack of desire to remedy this years old defect. Instead shifting the financial burden from one unsuspecting owner to the next and the next after that.

Since purchasing my car in August 2013, I have had to make three fairly costly repairs. Each time the mechanic told me this was a "known problem" for Chevrolets. The first was the intake valve. I hadn't experienced problems but took the car in for what I thought was a squealing belt. The squealing turned out to be the water pump. Since that was secondary in importance to the intake valve, I had that replaced first. Followed by the water pump a couple of months later. Then about a month ago, I was out of town and my car suddenly would not shift into park or reverse. It was a worn and stretched shifter cable. However gm says my car is not part of the recall.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration power then stalled. The contact also mentioned that the engine temperature warning light illuminated and that the failure was experienced multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the serpentine belt and water pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 10,000.
Last week my car started creeping when I hit the gas. My car sounds like a boat. The car sounds like its not getting gas or choking. When it starts picking up speed it sounds like its dropping into the gears. I took it to the shop and they are telling me that there is a problem with the catalytic converter and it needs to be replaced. That has been replaced now they are telling me there is a problem with the timing chain and water pump. Now, I noticed that these are all things that are covered under chevy warranty but the issues shows up after the warranty has ended. Chevy needs to extend the warranty on these parts because its a common issue.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the lower intake gasket, located near the water pump, was leaking water and antifreeze. While driving at any speed, the vehicle would overheat and water would leak out. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop and the mechanic stated that the lower intake gasket needed to be repaired at the cost of $695. The dealer has not been notified. The failure mileage was 149,130.
I bought my 2001 Malibu in 2003. I had no real problems till this year 2009. My mileage now in 74,000 and the problems started at about 60,000. After a accident everything started to go. My gas gauge went down and my temp gauge also. My auto lock for my doors was not working. My air vents only work when they knob is on 3. Main fuse box has major issues and the water pump went out and cost $2300. 00 and needs a $500. 00 service for the main fuse box. Water pump was replaced also 2005. Cost about $600. 00 then. I wish someone would have pointed these problems before. Gm needs to step up to the plate; especially after taking more money from the tax payers for their mismanagement. I love my Malibu but gm better get on the stick and help the ones who have this defective 2001 Malibu.
4-2007 gas was pooling around engine, replaced intake gasket, next time I drove car , same problem, they had to do over ( their dime) because failed to replace o-ring. 9-06-07 would not start at gas station, 9-13-07 pass lock sys. Installed ignition switch lock cylinder. 11-13-09 turn signals, tail lights not working, between 11-13-09 @ 4-07-2010 , I have been back several times, because signals failed off and on while driving. Told me, they could not do anything until they could see it fail, which it did on 4-07-2010 while I was close to shop. Flasher switch/relay bad, replaced. 6-10-10 harmonic balancer worn and serpentine belt & seal replaced. 2-23-12 water pump leaking, replaced. 6-14-12 replaced sparks plugs, wires, complete injection flush. 9-14-2012 strong fuel smell (fumes) inside car and under hood, performed fuel leak test, no visual signs of fuel leak. Checked vent canister, gas cap, no fuel codes. Have been fumes several times since but by the time I drove to shop could not smell fumes. 4-22-13 fumes very strong inside car and under hood, drove to shop and they could smell fumes , put it up on rack and checked all underneath, no sign of leak under car or under hood. No one can tell me what the problem is but say process of elimination is only way. Why on 6-10-2010 need to replace serpentine belt and seal and again on 2-08-2013 remove and replace serpentine belt and belt tensioner?? when this car reached 62,000 I have had nothing but trouble with it and now I am afraid of a fire, gas is leaking somewhere!!!! I only have 97,461 miles. Is not there some way or someone who can find origin of the fuel leak?.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. Ever since the vehicle was purchased brand new, the electrical system has not worked properly. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they reset the computer. He also stated that the red light indicates that the anti-freeze is low. Anti-freeze would leak out the tank and damage the water pump and balancer. The contact wants the manufacturer to repair the vehicle because he was not warned about the faulty tank. The current mileage was 81,000 and failure mileage was 1,800.
