11 problems related to brake abs warning light have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Abs warning light was on. Consumer took vehicle to a mechanic, and mechanic stated that braking system is wired wrongly, and and that is why the light is coming on. Please provide any further information.
After driving for a while would start to apply brakes for a normal stop. Abs pump would kick in & would not have any brakes. Whenever brake pedal wad released, abs light came on. Then, tapped brakes and vehicle would stop. Problem was intermittent. Have not taken to dealer as of yet.
At around 45,000 miles, the abs light went on during travel. I went to a brake shop and they informed me of a problem with s-10 brakes. I called the dealer where I purchased the truck and they said there was no recall yet. They did tell me there was a problem with s-10 braking systems and I should wait until I receive a letter. I used the internet to check and see if there was recall on my truck. The information I read was the final letters would be sent in Dec. 2000. As of now, I have not received anything. I called the dealed and they gave me a price of $350. 00 to fix the problem. I do know there is a abs problem with 2,400,000 trucks. How do I find out if my truck is part of the recall. The truck stops fine, except in wet weather. If the road is wet, the brakes lock up.
Consumer received a recall notification in the mail regarding abs system, consumer dropped vehicle off at dealership and was advised that the vcm was reprogrammed, after proceeding to take the vehcile home the abs light came on after numerous attempts to fix problem consumer was advised that the vcm would have to be replaced and the consumer would be responsibile for the cahrges, after some deliberation on both sides gm customer service decided to apply goodwill to consumer's claim and cover the repairs, consumer was assured that the replacement of the vcm would fix the problem, however the abs light came back on, consumer tok vehicle to another dealership and diagnosed problem as being the ebcm needed to be replaced, but was advised they needed to go back to dealership that performed the original recall repair, consumer was advised again that she would be responsibile for repairs and again it was being disputed, finally the approval for repairs were given at no charge to the consumer, however the abs light did continue to come on after the repairs, consumer took vehicle back to dealership and it was discovered that a shorted pump needed to be replaced and the abs unit was replaced again, after all the numerous attempts to try and remedy problem the abs light still continues to come on.
When brakes are applied, the anti-brake stystem will grab / lock-up causing failure. The abs warning light is coming on. Dealer says the vehicle is alright without abs.
Once vehicle is started abs indication light would stay on until vehicle is turned off. Also, while applying brakes, the brakes started pulsating. Please provide further information.
While driving the consumer stopped and parked vehicle to go inside office, when he come back outside, got into the vehicle tried to back up (reverse), but it did not have any brakes and the abs light on the dashboard did not go off.
While driving vehicle in reverse about 10 mph the consumer parked the vehicle and went inside the office. When came back out and got into vehicle tried to back up (reverse) but did not have any brakes, and the abs light on the dashboard did not go off.
The abs brake system malfunctioned, the abs light comes on, and the brakes lock up, causing vehicle to pull in either direction.
When brakes are applied abs light would come on and remain. Brakes would totally non-exist. Took vehicle to dealership, and mechanic replaced entire braking system.
Recall 99 v 193 000. After vehicle was repaired under the recall abs light illuminated while in motion. Dealer stated that sensor and module were bad. This abs light did not come on until kit was installed.
