24 problems related to front seat recliner have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Seat back recline handle breaks off causing seat back not to stay in place, or not able to adjust.
Seat reclining levers have broken on both sides. Internet searches have revealed to me hundreds of similar problems. Chevrolet stated no recalls.
My tailgate supports both snapped at the same time my son was crawling out of the back of the truck and tumbled to the ground. Also shortly after I purchased the truck in 2001 both sides of my seats the recliner knobs both broke. I also have tried several attempts to turn my air bags off on the passenger side and they won't go off.

Recliner handles have broken, not the plastic handles, but the metal rod has sheered off in plastic handle, has occered twice on drivers side and once on passenger side. After dealer fixed first time handles were stiff and had to release tension on seat to operate(I. E. Sit forward to operate). Driver side broke again not fixed because warranty has expired, but shows design or materials flaw.

Reclining seatback latch broken/ third door handle broken.
The reclining mechignition on both seat are made of very cheap metal, and both have snapped off at the seat itself. Also you can be driving down the road and the seat will slide back after releasing itself from the locked position. And the third door handle is plastic and breaks when trying to open it in the cold weather.
The handle to recline the seat has broken off due to a weak light metal. This has happen on the company balzer as well as my personal truck.
Three days after purchasing a new Chevrolet S10 pick up my cousin was sitting in the passenger seat and when I came to a stop he slid forward, his body pressing against the dash. What he told me was that the seat would not lock in place. I have taken it back to the dealer five times in the span of three months for problems with this seat. They did the following "fourth time in, floor bent causing seat tracks to bind [bend] removed right seat trim to torque bolts to specs given by tech line - did not work. Removed seat to shim seat up a corner at a time. Did not work. Bent floor up (1') inch. Worked for a while. Called tech line. Got metal plates to reinforce floor. Drilled out plates to reinforce floor. Drilled out plates & installed with shims to align seat tracks as per technical assistance center (tac) recommendations. Ed phelps, district service manager, involved with repairs. " today I was told by a manufacturer representative that there was a "bulletin" issued concerning S10 seats and that I could find it on your site. What's going on. And is my truck safe for my passengers?.
Passenger's seat keeps moving back and forth. Will not stay latched. Vehicle has been in / out of dealer's shop on six occasions, and problem still reoccurring.
Recliner latch has broken twice on the passenger side, and three times on driver's side. Seat also slid forward when brakes were applied. Dealer has been contacted.
When driving driver's side seat locking mechanism is not secured. Consumer had his vehicle in dealership more than once.
