general problems of the 2000 Chevrolet S10

20 problems related to seats have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

The driver's seat has not been working properly for several months. The seat will not stay locked in place and this has created a dangerous situation, especially in intersections, when the truck has been in motion. Now that this has happened several times, I've been especially careful & prepared to move the seat back forward so I can again reach the pedals. My solution for the time being - placing a wooden 2x4 piece behind the seat so it will stay fixed. It's working, but it is very inconvenient getting into or out of the seat. Will try to repair or take to a shop if a recall is not mandated.

2 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet s-10. The contact stated that the seat failed to stay in the locked position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the base of the seat had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000.

3 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2005

The handles that recline the back portion of the seat snapped off on both sides within a month of each other with little use. The geared portion remained inside the plastic handle.

4 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2003

Front passenger seat on 2000 Chevrolet s-10 does not lock in position, I believe this to be a safety issue and know of several other s-10 owners with same problem, yet no recall has been issued.

6 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2002

: the contact stated the driver's seat did not stay in place and was not stable. The service dealer replaced the seat and the new seat had the same problem. The vehicle had not been back to the service dealer to attempt another seat.

7 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2002

When pressing on the brakes seat tracks snap, causing driver seat to go to the rear. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

8 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2002

The passenger side seat of my 2000 S10 pickup does not catch after you move it forward to gain access to the back of the seats. In order to get catch, I have to push as hard as I can back into the full back position. If this is not done and I make a sudden stop the passenger and seat are thrown forward toward the windshield. When I took it to the dealer the first time this happened they said the could not find anything wrong with the passenger seat but did fix the driver's seat that was doing the same thing. I have seen similar reports on some websites about S10's. This has been going on since I have owned the vehicle. Since I am now aware of the problem I know how to avoid it but it is a problem that should be fixed by the manufacturer.

9 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2001

Driver/passenger seats would need to be slammed back to lock into place after moving them in order to allow someone to get in rear of vehicle, extended cab. Have been to dealer 7 times for problem. Each time mechanic indicated nothing wrong, and that was how seat should work.

10 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2001

Letters have been sent to g. M. And no response received. I have knowledge of a similar case in the same make and model vehicle. No safety defect listed.

11 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2001

Plastic seat latch and actuator breaks very easily causing the seat to be in the wrong position possibly at the time of the break. The passenger side broke at 32k then the driver's side broke at 49k. To fix the problem the whole seat has to come apart so the labor is around 2 hrs then cost around $245 to fix and soon to break again. The actuator needs to be of a stronger material. A discussion page for s-10 owners zr2. Com has 2 pages of complaints on this one item. This inferior plastic part needs to be recalled! gm does not want to recall this because the s-10's are no longer in production. Please help us solve this problem by recalling this part. Thank you very much.

12 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2001

Spring on driver side seat is too weak to hold seat. Seat will slide back and forth while driving. Also, door latches to 3rd door are made of plastic and will break.

13 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2000

Consumer has taken vehicle to two dealerships regarding passenger's seat not locking into place. When brakes are applied on vehicle passenger's seat flies forward. Please provide any additional information.

14 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2000

Inquired about seat tracks and braking problem at dealer, they state no recalls.

15 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2000

The front passenger manual seat would not stay adjusted. Intermittently the seat would come loose, and cause the seat to move back and forth while driving. Vehicle had been to the dealer on three separate occasions, and they could not locate the cause of the problem.

16 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2000

Drivers side seat will not lock and when applying brakes it will slide backward resulting in not being able to stop at light and stop signs.

17 Seats problem

The driver and passenger side seat tracks are faulty, failure of the drivers seat to stay secured in position caused the seat to jerk backwards while driving removing the drivers foot from the accelerator pedal resulting in the vehicle slowing at an intersection, the passengers seat had the same problem prior to the driver seat malfunction with more frequency of failure. Nlm.

18 Seats problem

The passenger seat would not properly lock to the seat track, and the consumer believes it was a major safety problem.

19 Seats problem

Passenger's seat would let go on track while driving, would not remain locked. Took to dealership, and was repaired with a new mechanism. But problem was not solved. The seat was finally repaired at the third attempt.

20 Seats problem

The passenger seat cannot be latched in position until it is moved to the full rearward position. As this is an extended cab truck there may be a box or something similar behind the seat. In this case the passenger cannot latch the seat resulting in the passenger sliding towards the dash if the brakes are applied. About the only way to discover this is when it happens the first time and your passenger is only stopped by the seatbelt. If they were not wearing their seatbelt then they would probably hit the dash. No vehicle I have ever owned has had such a system.
