Automatic Transmission problems of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Four problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2006

For 2 weeks the truck felt like it was hesitating somewhat when accelerating. Then when driving home on dry pavement one night, a pop sound was heard & second gear was gone. From a dead stop, rpm's go up to 4000 or 4500 before it down shifts into 3rd gear. There is also no reverse gear. Chevy says it is the "sun gear" that blew. Truck has 78000 miles on it. You either rebuild it for $1600 with a new sun gear, or replace the tranny for $2600.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2001

Transmission was replaced but problem was not fixed. Brakes were replaced but problem was not fixed.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2001

While traveling at 70 mph, vehicle started to down shift and the driver came to a stop, once going up a hill the vehicle started to lose power, driver pressed gas pedal, and there was no response, then suddenly vehicle took off. . Consumer stated when she stopped to make a turn, the vehicle would not move up the hill, and the accelerator pedal was to the floor, once the vehicle was put into low gear it moved.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2000

Missing insulation caused very loud grinding noise when stopped with vehicle in gear.
